Thibaut Courtois

Good, Big Willy is better than him anyway.

Let's be honest, Courtois is going throw a dip and Willy is a good back up but Courtois is on another level to Willy, let's not deny facts. I hope Courtois recovers for Sunday.

Before the Club make a decision on Tibo, we’ve had this guy since we won the double!!! How long does it take to decide if you’re going to make it.

Goalkeeper Matej Delac joined Chelsea on 1 September 2010, though he was promptly loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem in Holland, joining up with fellow Chelsea youngsters, the Serbian pair of Slobodan Rajkovic and Nemanja Matic.

A loan move to Czech top division side SK Dynamo Ceske Budejovice for the 2011/12 season followed. There he made five appearances.

At the start of the 2012/13 season Delac went on loan to Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal before returning on loan to his former club, Inter Zapresic in Croatia. There he finished the 2012/13 season 10th in the top flight out of 12 teams.

He spent the first half of the 2013/14 season on loan at FK Vojvodina in Serbia, making 18 appearances. In January 2014 he moved to FK Sarajevo in Bosnia on loan until the end of the season and made seven appearances.

A new loan, this time to Arles-Avignon who play in France’s Ligue 2, began on 1 September 2014 before a return to Sarajevo for a second loan spell in February 2015. The season ended well, with Delac a Bosnian league champion with 11 clean sheets in 15 appearances.

At the beginning of 2015/16, Delac returned to FK Sarajevo on a season-long loan. Unfortunately his campaign came to an end midway through due to a knee injury.

Delac played on loan at Royal Mouscron in the Belgian top flight in 2016/17. He featured regularly, albeit in a struggling side, making 28 appearances and keeping five clean sheets.

Bloody hell, I'd forgotten about Rajkovic. As I recall the most notable point of his career was getting banned for spitting at a referee when he was a youngster.

Oh god, does he have Scouse blood :face_palm:

Looking at his list of frankly underwhelming loans, there doesn't seem to be a progressive line.

Delac has work permit problems like Pasalic. The club thought Croatia would have free movement of labour when they joined the EU but this isn't granted till 2020 after brexit. Neither will probably ever play for us unless they meet the criteria.

I don't know if anyone saw last night's match between Spain and Argentina, but Willy came on around the 25th minute after the first keeper got injured in Costa's goal for Spain, and suffered a nightmare of 5 goals past him... Not a great night for Willy, and just a reminder of why Courtois is our first choice of keeper. Mind you, with that Argentinian defence I'm not sure that their first goalie would have saved them from disaster.

If they had 5 keepers it wouldnt have mattered behind a defence that basically gave up.

I watched the game and Willy had a mare. He was a bag of nerves. Only his second cap for Argentina and it's fair to say Romero won't be too worried.

In his fledgling Chelsea career we've seen he often has a rush of blood to the head, his handling is unpredictable, and he's a disaster with the ball at his feet. Our last match, away to Leicester, he kicked the ball straight to Mahrez who missed an open goal from 40 yards out.

He's also very small for a keeper. The fact Pep decided to keep Bravo as his number 2 instead of Willy speaks volumes, because Bravo is also pretty sh*t.

Willy is a great shot-stopper and saves a lot of pens, he also has a lot of heart, but he's a long way off being a top keeper, and despite T-bo's foibles, he's got no chance of making the number 1 jersey his own.

Willy is a good no 2

Cover for the odd game here and there maybe, But say your No.1 picked up an injury that kept them out for months. Who would honestly want to rely on Caballero in goal for anything more than short-term?

Same old story with keepers though, if it’s someone better then they’re not going to want to warm the bench all season.

It's the same for most top teams and their goalkeepers though. Which team in the top 6 has a better number 2 goalkeeper than us? probably only United.

Man City - Bravo

Man Utd - Romero

Liverpool - Karius / Mignolet

Tottenham - Vorm

Arsenal - Ospina

The only good one there is Romero. Are any of the rest really any better than Caballero? I wouldn't be choosing any of them to replace Caballero that's for sure.

Of topic a bit, but what is Romero still doing at United? He could be number one goalkeeper for a lot of top teams, he's wasting his career at United.

I know, but what I was getting at is your No. 2 should be either an older experienced keeper who is quite happy to sit on the bench and pick up £50K a week until called upon (like when we had Schwarzer). Or put a decent younger keeper on the bench - we have a number on our books. If Burnley can manage to get two decent keepers in Heaton & Pope, I'm sure we can manage it.

I like Caballero (nearly posted I like Willy but changed it!), but really wouldn't want to see him between the sticks for a run of games.

I think Caballero is better than Schwarzer when we had him.

Willy doesn't fit the 'older experienced keeper who is happy to sit on the bench and collect 50k until called upon' description?

That should be right up there with 'penalty' as his middle name

Yeah, you're probably both right.

Just can't get out of my head though that he's a bit of an "accident waiting to happen" type keeper. Good bloke, makes some fine saves, but always likely to make a ricket and the kind of keeper you shut your eyes when a ball get's lofted into the box. As I say, fine to cover odd games but not someone to install confidence in fans or the back 4.

Think we need a new No. 1 and No. 2 come the summer as certain Courtois will be off and Willy just isn't good enough.

I think you are right, it looks like Courtois will be gone soon.

There has been a lot of talk about the Burnley keeper Pope. I must admit I haven't taken much notice of him. Anyone have any comments about him ?.

By a considerable distance, Schwarzer was bang average for us and made crucial mistakes that derailed our season.

While Pope is having a great season, he has been helped to a great extent by the cagey formation burnley use. Don't think he is actually as good as he has seemed this season.

I would still like us to get Butland he is definitely as good despite his poor season. He would likely cost us half of what Pope would cost as stoke are almost certainly going down this season.

Cheers.

I'm not a great fan of Butland, he's a good keeper, but I am undecided on him.

That Wigan keeper looked very good in their cup games against City and Southampton. I'd be following his progress closely. Mind you, it was only a couple of games so it's hard to tell.

I've just looked him up. His name's Christian Walton. He turned 22 in November. Brighton is his parent club. They've loaned him to Wigan for a year. It's his fifth loan. He's represented England at U19, U20 and U21 level. He's contracted to Brighton until the end of next season. I've decided he's the guy we should be buying.
