February 17, 201610 yr No different to Mourinho in that respect. I was hoping he would bring on Kenedy or Traore for Hazard last night as it needed changing and possibly make a second change later on and it was disappointing that only Oscar got used. But there is no way Mourinho would have used any of the youngsters last night and at least we are still in the tie. I don't think Jose would only use one sub against PSG and Arsenal, even if it is just for the last five minutes Jose will do something to influence a match. Guus, with nothing to lose by being an interim appointment, just isn't imposing himself on games as much as I would like.
February 17, 201610 yr Hard to blame him too much for not making changes because the bench is still about as weak as the one Jose had. We could've brought on a youngster or maybe Remy (who has been consistently disappointing and is apparently about to be sold) but none of them are gamechangers yet. My opinion is that when the game became stretched and there was open-space, the ideal person to bring on would've been Ramires but the club reduced our squad depth in January rather than adding to it because there's no real commitment to progressing in this competition. That's unfortunately the hand Guus was dealt and he's got to work within those restrictions.
February 17, 201610 yr So far Guus has made good calls constantly. He knows that PSG result was good enough for us to go through. Taking off Hazard was smart as well. All in all I'm happy he is here.

The old Jose was a master at changing a game but this season he was Mr Predictable. Usually he would have Ramires, Mikel and Remy on the bench - possibly Pedro, and they would be the ones to get thrown on. With the bench we had last night and how Jose was this season, I can't see that he would have done a lot different - maybe thrown Remy on late on. Edited February 17, 201610 yr by Nibs

February 17, 201610 yr I reckon Hiddink will retire at the end of the season. I think that's why he really wants to win the FA cup get them one in the bag and leave on a high. If we somehow won the Champions League aswell what a send off that would be for him.
February 17, 201610 yr I think the attitude may well sour in this thread over the next few weeks if things do not go our way on Sunday and the second leg against psg.
February 17, 201610 yr IMO Guus is doing the best job he can possibly do. Who ever takes over from Guus, has got one hell of a job on his hands ! Our squad needs a massive overhaul. Like most fans on this forum, I want to see more of our own youth players be given more game time and more leadership in the team. If we are to win anything this year, We badly need to see Hazard putting a lot more effort in.
February 17, 201610 yr Cech, mata, de bruyne, david luiz,Philip Luis, lakaku, schurle, ramirez would of looked good on our bench last night, shame we didn't keep hold of them?

And most of those players we got really good money for. Selling them wasn't really the problem, just not replacing them is the bigger issue. Selling Cech to Arsenal was the worst decision. They wouldn't give us Walcott or Chamberlian, least Arsenal have some sense.
February 17, 201610 yr Mata, de brunye, Lakaku, Schurrle, Moses (on loan), Who did we sign? Salah, Cuadrado, Falcao, Kenedy, Pedro, Pato Solid signings: Costa, Remy, Fabre, Zuma. Our squad look so weak. There no depth. I think over the summer we need new Midfielders. Also, Hazard out, Oscar out, Matic out, Ivan out.
February 17, 201610 yr We've certainly weakened our squad dramatically over the last few seasons Very true, it's either we cut corners deliberately in terms of maintaining the squad depth, or the managers were really poor in convincing squad players to stay. Even after signing Pedro, there's no way we should just let go Moses, knowing it may take a while for Pedro to get up to speed. If Pastore is happy to sit on the bench, I don't know why we can't keep Moses.

I get that many here won't be able to answer this, but a club in the position of CFC should have people who find this question relatively easy to answer. Plenty of big names have moved all over Europe and the world in that time span and even more talents have popped up from smaller leagues/divisions. Some attempts were made and big money too, but as we know didn't pan out as hoped. Be interesting if we could know who was the driving force behind each transfer as some questions certainly deserve to be asked. I don't know how many other clubs have fans as confused as to who is actually driving the recruitment strategy from owner to board to manager.
February 18, 201610 yr IMO the person at Chelsea who has to sign off the cheque and obviously does the transfer deals is Marina Granavoskai ( I understand that she is a long term personal mate of Roman and he has given her the authority to wheel and deal in the transfer market ) She obviously speaks to all of the agents, scouting network and Michael Emanelo and obviously consults with Roman on the big deals in over 20 million, anything less than 20 million, she would have free reign.

February 19, 201610 yr It's all on Google ......just tap in her name......Marina Gravanoskaia and you will see that she has worked for Roman for many years and he replaced the previous Chelsea CEO Rob Gourlay with her ! It's not rocket science !

This argument is beginning to annoy me. So many clubs sell so many players for so many reasons. Man U - Van Persi, Di Maria, Nani, Evra, Kagawa, Wellbeck, Fletcher, Pogba, Berbatov, Barca - Pedro, Sanchez, Fabregas, Villa, Abidal, Bayern - Schweisteiger, Mandzukic, Kroos, Gomez, L Gustavo Think how good all those teams benches would have been if they all kept those players

February 21, 201610 yr Might be in the minority camp here...but Guus is pushing Jose for my favourite recent Chelsea manager. No hostile pressers, no controversy. Just goes about his job and normally gets a good result. Season was already gone to sh*t when he turned up, he's done very well so far.
February 21, 201610 yr Guus is a very good manager where as some of you on this thread are very poor judges imo.

That's a bit shortsighted.. hiddink done nothing worthy of your acknowledgement in term of managerial oriented decision.. He still adopts the pragmatic style, not really giving youth enough chances but this man is not without positives of course.. He's better than jose in certain part of the game but jose is still our best manager overall so far and ironically he's also our worst manager under roman era..

You're fair in that he hasn't changed stuff around too much. Maybe it was a bit too much saying he's pushing Jose, but I'm still a big fan in that he's pulled us out of a hole twice. He'll be earning his wonga if we beat Everton away. Either way, will still stick by my guns and say he's a decent manager.
