November 18, 20169 yr Don't know if this is the right thread for this but don't know where else to coment. Just saw a "Chelsea managers who have won Manager of the Month Awards" thingy on Twitter. Rafa Benitez? Really? FFS how on earth did that happen?

Just saw a "Chelsea managers who have won Manager of the Month Awards" thingy on Twitter. Rafa Benitez? Really? FFS how on earth did that happen? The month Benitez won the award with us, the following results occurred: Chelsea 2-1 Sunderland (April 7 2013) Fulham 0-3 Chelsea (April 17 2013) Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea (April 21 2013) Chelsea 2-0 Swansea (April 28 2013) Here's a list of all of our Manager of the Month winners since the award was introduced in 1993. September 2003 (Claudio Ranieri) March 2004 (Claudio Ranieri) November 2004 (Jose Mourinho) January 2005 (Jose Mourinho) March 2007 (Jose Mourinho) April 2008 (Avram Grant) November 2009 (Carlo Ancelotti) August 2010 (Carlo Ancelotti) March 2011 (Carlo Ancelotti) April 2011 (Carlo Ancelotti) April 2013 (Rafael Benitez) October 2016 (Antonio Conte) I was very surprised that Jose didn't win the award once in his second stint considering we were title winners in his second season and we were a great side in 2014 where our overall record in all competitions that calendar year was 38 wins, 11 draws, 7 losses. Doing some calculations, the calendar year of 2014 was statistically our third best year in the Abramovich era behind only 2005 and 2009. The irony though is we didn't win any trophies in that 12-month span. Edited November 19, 20169 yr by Jezz

Because under Jose i think we very rarely went a whole calendar month without dropping points, we often won 3 in a row then followed it up with a draw or defeat. For one of the top clubs you usually need a 100% record to be in with a shout, if you win 3 draw one out of 4 and Sean Dyche does the same with Burnley for example, he will get it. EDIT: just checked the stats, we only had two months under Jose mark two with no dropped points, October 2013 and August 2014. Edited November 19, 20169 yr by Argo

Hard to dispute any of that when you breakdown Mourinho's reign bit by bit. Still though, it's somewhat hard to believe he never won the award at least once in his second stint.
