Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

Its a little early to compare Conte selecting Luiz and Cahill to Jose picking Bran or Matic for months on end. Everyone is entitled to be wrong every so often but if it keeps happening then it becomes a real problem.

Conte seems depressed we don't have the squad he wants to compete but not much to do about it now. Hopefully we give it to him ASAP because I can 1000% see him walking away in July over it and rightly so. He clearly has ambition to win everything every season and it needs to be matched.

Hang in there Antonio.

Well how do you explain so many limp performances so far this season? The matches we’ve lost we have been second best in every way. It’s not a tactical issue, it’s a motivational issue.

Makes you wonder if Costa in the dressing room added a bit of bite!

What's His Face on Talksport yesterday (the chelsea fan - Hawksbee or Jacobs I forget which one) reckoned the chelsea board wanted to sack Conte in the summer, but couldn't because he won the league, and that he'll be gone before the end of the season.

I'd like to think that's nonsense and that the board might finally have learnt from lessons of the past, but it's impossible to say with that lot, and they certainly didn't back him enough in the transfer market. I can't shake the feeling that he won't be here this time next year.

Was a reason given as to why the board wanted to sack him ?. Like you also, I do not think he will be here for much longer

Personaly i think Conte himself is going to walk the second we exit the CL this season. The league we have screwed up already(largely down to Conte not having proper depth or players) and Conte isn't one to take board incompetence lightly.

Don't know, I only switched it on half way through.

They gave him a new contract so they must be really incompetent if they wanted to fire him but ended up paying him more for literally no reason.

To be clear, 'wanted to sack him but couldn't' sounds like garbage to me.

Also many sources claimed Carlo was f**ked even if he retained the title, if they really wanted to get rid of him or felt it was best for the club going forward the title wouldn't have stopped them.

Conte needs to take his fair share of the slack aswell, this board excuse can only go so far. The board didn't make Cahill captain or keep picking him, and the board certainly aren't culpable for Antonio getting tactically outsmarted by Wenger and Roy fecking Hodgson off all people.

Conte will know things aren't right, it's up to him to sort it out. This season is going to come down to how Conte combat's that high press, it is clearly our weakness right now and it's being exposed game after game. If we can get on top of it, there is a chance that we can fight back and compete for trophies. If we don't sort it out then top 4 will be a real struggle and so will advancing far into the Champions League.

I don't think we can afford to miss out on Champions League football next season, not if we want to keep hold of Courtois and Hazard. Remember, they didn't sign a new deal that we were looking to get done at the end of last season.

Love him. Hope he stays for years.  But the constant subtle digs at the board about squad depth is not going to end well.  He is a pissed off man, who i suspect is debating his long term future.  And i have no doubt he is fuming we sold Matic to the Mancs, but he needs to quit the whinging now.

Lose to Watford Saturday and i will be surprised if he is here xmas time

Yeah starting to get worried about Conte. He looks down and like others have said, doesn’t seem his usual self. I guess he’s frustrated by the thin squad and doesn’t feel the board are ambitious enough. From a board perspective, it must be equally frustrating having a manager who is very demanding

I really hope it doesn’t happen and Conte and the board work together. Surely Chelsea know that they have one of the worlds best managers and we have gone through enough upheaval years recently. Conte is never going to be a 5-10 seasons manager with one club but I would expect him stay longer than 1.5 years.

The other issue is every year we win the league we never strengthen enough.  We always let go players who ideally should have been kept to accomodate the new signings.  Every. Single. Year.   Its like the board think, "f**k bringing anyone in, these lot won it last year theyll do it again, i dont care if Utd and city have brought in world class players for £300m"

I am not being kneejerk here and its slightly off topic for the thread but i absolutely think Marina has to be replaced by a football person.  and our board need a shake up, because we are pissing off many a good manager with our stubborn attitude

I agree. While I'm disappointed with the board's lack of ambition in the window, the squad we have shouldn't have lost games to crystal palace and Burnley and we could have done better against Arsenal.

It's not the system, it's the players. Half of them aren't good enough and are being exposed this season with a full calender of games to play. When your wingbacks are players of the calibre of Marcos Alonso and Zappacosta (neither one of which are really CFC calibre players), it's not really surprising to watch us suffer. The weakness in those positions is further amplified with a 3-5-2 where there is even more pressure on the wingbacks to help generate attacks. We were effectively attacking with only 2 players until Conte switched back to the 3-4-3.

Blame the board for undermining the managers position yet again. We still don't have a complete midfielder who can help with our transition from the back to the midfield. Gonalons is better than all the midfielders we started today. How is that acceptable for a club of our size? The man wanted both Tolisso and Bakayoko and we only gave him one of those. We missed out on Alex Sandro, Bonucci, Danilo, Tolisso and the list is endless even from 2 seasons ago. Shop at Aldi and get what you deserve. We need to be shopping at waitrose. And I know some genius will highlight how much we spent last summer. But who did we buy? What was the net spend? Did we really improve the squad significantly? So why are we shocked? Conte deserves so much better than he got! Look at City's squad ffs. This man gifted us a title and our board can't even give him the tools to compete on equal footing with Guardiola.

what is chelsea calibre player though? you could go through every top 3/4 team in europe and they don't have a squad or even first team full of high quality players. sometimes you got to have a mix and match, and some players are advantageous to the unit as a whole. everybody is quick to say our players are sh*t or mediocre, but forget that plenty of top teams have players who aren't the archetypal top quality players. apart from sandro and bonucci (which is a pipe dream as wouldn't have happened) i wouldn't say we missed out terribly.

The board need to show some longevity with a manager and if that means finishing 4th or even 5th/6th for a season, so be it.
Conte clearly has the talent and the passion but he's not a miracle worker.

I agree. You can't keep failing to give the manager what he wants and then constantly blame him when things go wrong. He said to the board that he didn't want them to sell Matic, they did it anyway. He said the squad was small, they left it that way. If they're not going to take advise from a somebody that understands the game far more than they do, then they shouldn't expect great things from him.

Didn't even know the Individual made Chelsea related comments yet again. He can't keep Chelsea out of his mouth, can he?

The new voyeur

Fairly certain he is a deadman walking.

Whether it is over the next month, by Christmas or by the end of the season he is gone. Managers don't win battles with Romans board. They follow the company line and succeed along it or get tossed out on their ear.

As has been said already we did not have a good transfer window. Not enough to compete for the title but conte has screwed up as we should never be getting beat by the likes of palace and Burnley and certainly not getting held at home by arsenal.

Carlo return next?
