Jose Mourinho thread

Not the first time he's had a go at Luke Shaw. We could do with another LWB in the summer. Any takers?

I'd take him tbh. Could prove to be an absolute top drawer LWB. Just needs a run of games and a manager who believes in him to restore his confidence. I don't know if we have that run of games to afford him though.

The bloke has absolutely no idea how to handle players under the age of about 24 any more. His inability to adapt will be the end of Mourinho.

Think early in his career he was spoiled by (as he said) players like Lampard who were really matured at a young age and he suddenly expects every player to be that way. I don't want to imagine what Jose would have done with a young Rooney compared to Fergie. He'd have sent the lad back out as quick as he came in.

With you 100% there. Shaw had only just returned from that nasty injury just before Mourinho arrived. Like you say he needs his confidence restored and probably abit of loving. Every player reacts differently to injuries specially if it's their first real bad one. I reckon with the right manager he could easily become the best LB in the league.

Reminds me of the KDB situation but he managed to get rid of him in January.

Really dislikes Shaw by the sounds of it, once or twice at the most you say things like that to motivate them to prove you wrong but he's don this a good few times with Shaw this season.

I don't watch much of them so no idea if the criticism is justified although even if it was you wouldn't think publicly shaming him several times would work.

In the past, Mourinho was praised for being able to get the best out of his squads, you can't praise him for that anymore though. From what i can see, it's the complete opposite, he can't seem to handle a squad of more than 15 players. At Real Madrid, Chelsea and now United, he has singled players out and publicly criticised them and each time it has done him no favours. I just don't see how criticising a player publicly is going to help his team, all this is going to do is make the player feel worse and bring down team morale.

Schweingsteiger, Martial, Shaw, Rashford, that is 4 players he has singled out this season.

Martial is similar to our situation with Mata. Probably the best player for the club the season before, and then pushed to the side when Mourinho arrives. I also think Shaw is getting a raw deal from Mourinho. A broken leg is not easy to recover from, they usually take a full season to get over. And let's not forget that Shaw was probably United's best player before he picked up that injury.

I just don't understand this approach from Mourinho. In the long run it's going to cost him. Eventually he will piss off too many players to the point where nobody will want to play for him.

Im sure I read something that when he arrives at a club, he likes to make a point and disregard a big name player to make a point - he did with Casillas, Mata and Schweinsteiger. It seems to doing it on another level and picking out anyone that doesn't fit his mould.

Given that the title race was supposed to be about Jose and Pep this year, Jose has massively disappointed given that he's in 5th place and looking unlikely to finish above 4th (though EL is strong possibility). Next season the pressure will ramp up given how much he will spend in the summer.

Probably because Shaw is a Chelsea fan...

Typical Jose, hanging Shaw out to dry has neatly deflected media attention from a very impotent performance against West Brom.

I'd gladly give him a go at the right price or let him return to Southampton and Bertrand back to us.

What happened to the Mourinho who liked to deflect the attention from his squad and protect his players? Seems only too happy to throw his players under a bus these days.

Can understand it with a seasoned pro but Shaw is still only 21 and not long back from a very serious injury.

Isn't he deflecting attention from their team and the home draw they just had with WBA though?

Hmmm, deflecting attention from the team by singling out one of them and hanging him out to dry. Nice!!

Can't tell if its sarcastic or not but focusing on one player who didn't even make the bench instead of the rest of the team seems odd

This Utd team resembles his first year at Chelsea during his second spell. Solid at the back and hard to break down but need a ruthless finisher up front (Costa) and an attacking midfielder (cesc) who can supply the goals. If he gets that next season I can see them challenging.

Not really. They need 2 new full backs, a defensive midfielder, a striker up front and another quality winger since Jose doesn't know what the f**k he's doing with Rashford and Martial. They're really not the 13-14 Chelsea. We could have won the title that season if Jose didn't keep banging on about how we were never gonna win it and we were a "little horse". Those stupid losses to Crystal Palace and West Brom (and 2 others I don't quite remember) could have given us the title. We were only 5 points off City. United are about 15 points of us right now.

This generation of players or kids are different from the players Jose managed 10 years ago, it's up to him to adapt. The likes of Lampard, JT, Drogba are model professionals, unfortunately most players in the current era aren't like that. I don't know too much about the Shaw story, but there's no point keep throwing the player under the bus after a couple of poor performance, or not even playing.

I don´t know what he is trying to reach with this criticizing players publicly. Does he want to question them and get a reaction? Maybe but he does it way too often and it also dosen´t work.

Further what is is with Jose (also with us) that he is trying so hard not to celebrate a goal? Just seems so odd.

Yeah heard he said some slightly harsh things about shaw. I would like to see shaw come to us, he has the potential to be class. Before his injury he was doing everything right and looked very solid. He is 21 and has plenty time to return to form, it's just José being impatient and once again not showing much faith in a young player who isn't proven. Rashford is only getting games because he looked impressive under van gaal.

Was talking about this to a mate of mine who`s a Utd season ticket holder, and though he agreed Jose was bang out of order to zero in on shaw apparently there`s rumours Jose wants him sold as he misses training sessions, eats junk etc.

Depends on price  and medical I guess ... maybe on Loan, with an option to buy ?

Very possible that JM still holds it against Shaw that he opted for Man United instead of Chelsea, when he was manager in his second stint with us. May also be true what dfw says about poor attitude, diet etc, but may well be that these are just symptoms and the wider disease stems from the manager ? Don't recall Pochettino ever having similar problems with Shaw at Soton.

Thought Jose might have learned his lesson when he apologised to Schweinsteiger recently for how he treated him, but no, very next week he's thrown his young forwards and Shaw to the wolves. What doesn't work is his lack of consistency with how he manages his players. Zero criticism for Ibra and Pogba for example, who both seem undroppable and unsubbable even when woeful. Zlatan is the most culpable player they have for misses this season .. needing 7 chances for every goal he has scored. Don't recall any public criticism for him ... the exact opposite in fact. Same with Pogba. Must surely lead to a very divided dressing room ... and could well explain a "bad attitude" ?

Lack of consistency ... favouritism ... bullying ... all very poor management traits ... sadly becoming the norm for Mourinho now ...
