May 24, 201610 yr The bloke is a Chelsea legend, no matter where he goes, but I don't feel half as bad about this as I thought I would. He was never going to stay with us forever, we're not that sort of club and he is not that sort of manager. He may prove me wrong and stay at Man united for the rest of his career, but somehow I just can't see it. Arsenal fans be careful what you wish for, when they get rid of Wenger they'll find out what its like to ride the managerial merry go round, and I don't think they'll like it one bit. The Manu fans are finding out that being a club with high expectations and trying to replace a Titan of the game like Fergie (and now matter how big a t*sser he was, I don't think we'll see his like again) is no easy matter. The stakes are incredibly high for them, because if they have to replace Mourinho after 3 seasons, they'll be fishing in a very small pool, a bit like we are now, but at least we are well versed in sacking and hiring. The red half of Manchester must be dazed and confused at the moment, torn between exhilaration, hope and nervous pessimism. I'd rather he never went to any other premier league club, but from a totally neutral perspective it's going to be fascinating to see how he handles the 'biggest job in English club football' (according to our media)
May 24, 201610 yr Capello seemed to rent himself out to Italian teams. Milan for 5 seasons then went to Roma for another 5 then ended up at Juve. (other clubs among that) Not sure if he was considered a legend at Milan or Roma in those stints though.
May 24, 201610 yr He is full of his own ego..we all know that, so is he coming towards the end of his managerial bucket list...I'll give him 3 years at Man U, then he'll head over to Germany where he will take the Bayern job for a couple of years then finally finish off at PSG before he retires from club football and takes the Portuguese national side to win the world cup. He will then become the greatest manager and a legend in his own mind of all time, having won and managed in each of the top European leagues. The next few years in the EPL will be the toughest by far, some of the world's best coaches with some of the worlds most average players, while the greatest players still piss around winning endless trophies in tin pot leagues where the competition in non-existent.
May 24, 201610 yr Hello everyone, I haven't posted for a while - hope you are all well. I won't lie, I am absolutely made up with this appointment. Mourinho is the man that should have taken over from Fergie. He is a winner. He knows the league and he knows how to win in Europe. He's not a particularly nice person but neither was Fergie. He's a c**t but he will be OUT c**t, as they say. We need a winning mentality to be installed in the club again. We need people to hate us again. We need to make Old Trafford a fortress again. Hopefully, Jose will achieve all of these things. I am not so stupid to think that we'll go on and win everything because I don't think that we will. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Spurs will all have a say. Also teams like Leicester and West Ham will want to challenge with the new tv money being thrown around. The reality is, we need to start thinking about finishing in the top 4 again before trophies. Although obviously I am made up with our FA Cup win on Saturday, it was a great day. I am so happy. I've been frustrated with Van Gaal. I like him as a man but not as a football manager. His tactics are dated and he treats players exactly the same as he did 20 years ago. Which isn't feasible in the modern game. Jose fuc*ing Mourinho. He will help us attract better players for a start and hopefully De Gea will stay. I think he'll stay for 3 years before heading off for a challenge elsewhere but who knows. One thing he'll get at United which he didn't get elsewhere is total control. Our owners don't get involved with footballing matters, they just ask for a list of players and attempt to go out and purchase them. I think Mourinho was the only option and most United fans I know are very excited by the prospect of seeing him in the Old Trafford dugout. Next season is going to be so interesting. May 24, 201610 yr I see the Mourinho revisionism is well and truly in full swing already.I call it cognitive dissonance as well. Edited May 24, 201610 yr by Jezz
May 24, 201610 yr I think deep down, we all knew Mourinho was a c**t. It's only now our suspicions are being fully realised!! I think deep down Jose's a good man. He's just...delightfully complicated. Besides, who are we to judge, really, one way or the other? "Never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his moccasins".
May 24, 201610 yr I'd walk ten miles in his moccasins for a 1/20th of his bank account Is that all? I'd walk a hundred miles for that much money, lol.
May 24, 201610 yr Is that all? I'd walk a hundred miles for that much money, lol. Best part is once you get their you can take a private jet back.
May 24, 201610 yr He may have unlimited funds and owners who do not get too heavily involved, but with the manchester derby and guardiola, combined with the rivalry with liverpool as well as all the other people he usually has spats with i.e wenger makes me think hes going to be fighting left right and centre.
May 24, 201610 yr Seen a few United fans saying Jose will get Depay to Hazard levels of the title winning season.
May 24, 201610 yr Deary deary me. Chelsea fans turning in Jose. Good God. The man has delivered the greatest era of success in our history. We have smashed countless English records. He has brought in the likes of Drogba, Essien, Ferreira, Carvalho, etc etc etc. He has nurtured and developed the greatest captain in our history and also the greatest goal scoring midfielder I'm our history. He was sacked the first time stupidly and still came back. He returned and after a year so did the league title. Yes he has gone now. Whether that was right or wrong is another discussion but it wasn't his choice to go. Sure there have been a few sour points in his time but the good times far outweigh the bad ones. Not sure of it is a reality check or just a grip some people need. Jose is a Chelsea man. Chelsea turned it's back on him, not the other way round.

May 24, 201610 yr Jose is a Chelsea man. Chelsea turned it's back on him, not the other way round. He WAS a Chelsea man, but sorry Loz, I don't buy into this is Chelsea and will always be Chelsea. Sure, we have a lot to be grateful to Jose for. He threw himself into the job and won us sh*t-loads. But he has had all the praise & adulation for that. Had his name sung when he was and even when he wasn't our manager (I hope folk will not be misguided enough to continue to do that once he's at Utd). There are ex-players who I DO think are Chelsea through & through, even if they did go on to play for other clubs. Ron Harris, Peter Osgood, Bobby Tambling, Kerry Dixon, Lamps & of course JT, to name a few. But not managers and certainly not Mourinho. For some time, I always suspected that it was his intention to end up at Utd. All that chummy stuff with Ferguson over the years. The comments after his Madrid side lost to the "better Utd team". Think there was something in the reports that he was devastated to have been overlooked when SAF retired and the job went to Moyes. Now it seems he has got what he wanted and that will certainly add a bit of spice to our future fixtures with Utd and make beating them all the more enjoyable. Edited May 24, 201610 yr by Nibs

Depay must be one of the worst signings this season... doesn't track back and when he makes the effort f**ks that up too. Just awful. I'd be surprised if Jose persists with him tbh (fingers crossed he will!)

I will agree that on the first occasion that Chelsea turned it's back on Mourinho but not the second time, he had us 1 point away from the relegation zone after 16 games. Abramovich didn't sack him after just a few draws and defeats, he sacked him after a truly terrible start to the season. I personally don't think RA can be blamed this time round.

If we are crediting him with bringing players in great players we also have to mention he brought in Cuadrado, Salah, Shevchenko, Wright-Phillips as well as the sales of KDB, Lukaku, Bertrand etc.. The list goes on. Or are the good transfers Mourinho genius and the flops Emenalo?

Facts are he is the most successful manager in our clubs history and the majority of trophies we have ever won are when he was in charge.
May 24, 201610 yr Name one manager who has 100% transfer success? Facts are he is the most successful manager in our clubs history and the majority of trophies we have ever won are when he was in charge. Exactly. My point is you can't use transfers to thank a manager when they make just as many huge mistakes. No arguing that first time round he was bloody amazing and i couldn't thank him enough for what he did in that time. Second time round he wasn't that successful. 2 trophies in 3 years with the best squad in England? Our youth team won more than us in that time..

Second time round he wasn't that successful. 2 trophies in 3 years with the best squad in England? Our youth team won more than us in that time.. Best squad in England over the whole three year period? Give me a break. Our squad was excellent in 2014/2015 (questionable whether it was the best in terms of talent and quality) after a few inclusions in the form of Costa, Fabregas and Luis in the summer and seeing Matic and Zouma (winter 2014 signings) develop into solid contributors in the 2014/2015 season, but the 2013/2014 squad was nowhere near the best squad in the league and the 2015/2016 squad was stale and hadn't been refined after an excellent 2014/2015 season. Mourinho overachieved with his squad in his first season return. We fell short from winning the league by four points and reaching the UCL semi finals with an ineffective strike force was remarkable to say the least. Also, it was essentially 2 trophies in 2 seasons. He didn't reach the halfway mark of his third season and we still had the chance of poaching the FA Cup under him with a bit of luck and confidence. The landscape of English football has changed since Mourinho's first stint that winning trophies is harder than ever before with increased competition and pressure.
