Some fans got little to no loyalty not only to players that have given a lot for Chelsea but are also recognized as the top of their position in the world. Let me guess, you'd have kept Jose in 2015 because it was the "right" thing to do? You can appreciate what players have done for the club and still look to a future without them.

There really is no place for loyalty in football. Fergie built his united teams on that basis. If a player is on the decline then sell him whilst his value is high and rebuild. I think Kante should stay, for a few reasons (I think the fee we would receive won't be higher than 50m and we've signed too many players), but we should be actively thinking about how we move him on. If he can exit, with a good fee, then that supports the longer term improvement of the team. Our team this season will be better because we sold hazard last year.
September 6, 20205 yr It definitely isn't worth shunting him to bring in Rice, who is never a modern day defender, now if we can get Milinkovic for Kante i'd pile on that, but i see kante playing his Holding role as paramount, allowing a double pivot of joint 8s to play
September 7, 20205 yr Today front page in Italy. Basically Conte going all out for Kante. It will be interesting to see what the club does if we get a great offer from Inter. Income from sales are a big part of the business-model at the club so who knows.

I'm not particularly enamoured by him as a sitting DM and in a usual summer I'd say cashing in and getting a more specialist player for that position would probably be the best move. However in a summer we're looking at 5 (potentially 6) new first Xl players I feel a 7th will be far too much in one go (infact I think even 6 is pushing it and if the keeping situation wasn't so critical I'd say stick to what we have for one more year).

Yes I agree. I think it's likely lampard will persist with a 4231 and have kante and kov alongside each other. Unless kante delivers a world class performance this season, I'd like to see us see if he can be shipped out next summer to fund a replacement.

Me neither. How many times have we seen him desert his position and leaving us vulnerable when he's been deployed as CDM? Pretty much every game he's played there. If the plan is to use Mount and Havertz as 8s then Kante definitly can't be CDM. We need someone to protect the space between defence and midfielder.
September 7, 20205 yr Possible to arrange some sort of swap deal with Inter? I wouldn't mind taking Bastoni off their hands for a swap with Kante!
September 7, 20205 yr If Kante does well centrally like he played for France recently, Mount will probably have less game time. If Kante does well in the deeper role Jorginho will have less game time. Lampard needs to answer the question this season, which is our default starting lineup?
September 7, 20205 yr Two successive managers have been trying to shoehorn Kante into the first eleven. He basically does not fit any of the midfield roles for the possession football they have wanted to play. Sarri tried to turn him into an attacking midfielder, so he could play in a more advanced role, which didn't really work, and now, the only slot that seems available is at DM, which he isn't either ... If we were still playing counter attacking football, then he'd be the first name on the team sheet, but those days are gone, which is why I think we are better off cashing in now, and looking instead at specialists for the type of midfielder that Frank wants.
September 7, 20205 yr Kante was pretty good in the advance role pressing and winning th ball back under Sarri.
September 7, 20205 yr Regardless of formations and tactics, for me this is the only guy that we have that not only gets around the pitch all game, more importantly he seems to be the only bloke capable of tackling and winning the ball.
September 7, 20205 yr This is not the time to sell Kante. We don't have anyone who wins the ball, and snuff out danger in the middle of the pitch. Kova is decent but he doesn't have the nous of a prime Kante. If we let go of Kante now, we won't be challenging for any trophies in my opinion
September 8, 20205 yr If we are facing a low block then I would go Kante and Jorginho surrporting Kai, Mount and Ziyech(or pulisic for one of them) If we are facing a side that will attack us then Kova in for Jorginho. Either way if fit Kante is a must.
September 9, 20205 yr I wouldn't sell him. But if he leaves, then I would go all the way rather for Ndidi instead of Rice. The perfect buffer on the mid behind such an offence we have.
September 9, 20205 yr We can't even sell our sh*t players, so I really doubt we're selling Kante this summer anyway. Like numerous others have said, they'll only entertain it if it was a big fee, not sure why so many posters are getting worked up about it, it's like people don't bother reading posts anymore. I'm happy he's doing well anyway, I want him back and in form as much as any Chelsea fan, we really need that strong defensive unit in midfield.

I think we can sell more though some see our values as too inflated and in some cases we probably paid too much.

It is funny how we have so much TUNNEL vision on Rice that we cant see other options
September 10, 20205 yr Initial offer from Inter rejected https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/10/chelsea-reject-inter-offers-kante-eriksen-part-exchange-brozovic?CMP=share_btn_tw
September 10, 20205 yr https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/09/10/chelsea-turn-inter-milan-bid-ngolo-kante/ Matt Law reporting the same. Seems like they offered Brozovic + cash. Correct decision to reject that. If they come back with Skriniar + cash or a massive cash offer i think we'd think twice about it. Edited September 10, 20205 yr by Sindre
September 11, 20205 yr Di Marzio is also pitching in now claiming we have asked for 70-80 million euros from Inter for Kante. He's usually one of the best with regards to news from Italy. So let's assume he's correct and Inter cough up that money. Are we happy with the fee?

That fee is his current value, I'm sure Marina can work out a slightly better deal.
September 11, 20205 yr Last season our 2 biggest weaknesses defensively were set pieces and getting caught on the counter, hopefully the Set piece issue is somewhat resolved with a new keeper coming in alongside the leadership and organisation skills of Thiago Silva however Kante is the best midfielder we have when it comes to defending on the transition. Just doesnt make sense selling him, we have a long list of players who should be sold ahead of him, unless we are getting someone like Ndidi or Rice at 40m this should not even be considered.

An Italian club won't fork out 70-80m this late into the transfer window. Especially after their recent purchases. We should only go for Ndidi if we ever sell Kante. That being said, it's stupid to sell Kante with the season so close to starting. We have to integrate 6 players at the moment, we still need Kante's characteristics in the team as well as a semblance of stability in the team.
