While Matic has been important he has never replicated or built on that first 6 months when he came back, he's been pretty average imo bar that spell. 

Is Bakayoko a DM or more of box-to-box CM? Also, what is his shooting from distance like?

i just see little point in signing a guy like bakayoko, when we have matic. a box to box would equal our midfield out much more. the only reason i could think we would sign this guy is it's possible matic is leaving.

well if conte wants him, that'll do me.

for what its worth he's very much the more attacking of the two monaco midfield players and stylistically is similar to vieira (but he has some way to go to be as good). it is pretty clear conte prefers midfielders who are all rounders rather than specialists (defensively or going forwards)- bakayoko fits the bill in that respect.

Have to agree. Matic would be the first player I would ship out in the summer. Technically an extremely limited footballer and not a fantastic athlete either IMO.

I don't know much about him, is he a more physical and attacking minded Kante?

He is big powerful physical and seems to be ok on the ball, not afraid to shoot. But from what I've seen a bit slow.

I wonder if someone like Loftus Cheek was a Monaco youth product and was getting game time week in week out we'd look at spending 40m on him like we would Bakayoko. Does make you wonder how we have the best youth setup in Europe yet teams like Monaco give lesser players a chance and they succeed.

I think a lot of it comes down to expectations, the expectations of a club and manager are far greater at Chelsea then Monaco, Spurs, Southampton & in recent history Liverpool & Arsenal. Our squad is amongst the best in the Country therefore it's difficult for some of the younger lads to come through. Last season was a bit of a right of but over the last decade we have been the most successful club in England, if we were to tail off like a few of the other clubs and struggling for European football and not challenging on all fronts we could probably have a few games where we could give a few of the younger lads a run of games. Currently every single game seems incredibly crucial and the Match day threads are evidence of that, with Conte however it seems like he is willing to give some of the youngsters a little more of a look in then perhaps Mourinho.

 

Yes it is disappointing not to have someone like Kane or Alli come through but if you look at the players that they replaced it's not difficult to see why they were given the opportunity to make a mark. 

Best chance for players like RLC is to go to a good PL club, plays every week and deliver the goods. As a club, we are always trying to get the best or the next best thing on the market, and youth players get overlooked. It's not just Chelsea doing that, to be honest. Being a backup and play 10 minutes every month will never get RLC in the first team, I reckon it's a poor choice he didn't go out on loan, or maybe he just not that good to attract a good team.

40 million deal reached for him apparently. Not sure how true. I don't even know much about the lad.

In all seriousness though, I'm sure we have scouts in attendance for most champions league quarter finals anyway.

People might not agree but in regard to players like RLC etc. In my opinion the best move is to sell them with buy back clauses in the even they develop in to the top level players.

 

I know in an ideal world theyd break directly in to the first team but I think that's becoming more and more apparent that it's highly unlikely to happen.

 

Had we done that with the likes of Lukaku/De Bruyne we wouldn't be looking at shelling out 80m for the former.

and what a 3 to watch. i thought all 3 performed bloody well. lemar probably performed best of all, but mendy and bakayoko both looked very good. i don't see us signing all 3 though, or monaco letting them all go. monaco will probably let 2/3 players leave at maximum, but there's many other players in that team who other clubs will be after also like fabinho, mbappe, sidibe, silva. 

looks like mendy is out of the question. 

 

Bakayoko is probably the most replaceable from that team. It's a shame we're not looking at B. Silva instead since he'd be a pretty big upgrade on our right wing
