Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

The fact Juventus want him should tell people something, and Juve transfer record over the last few years is excellent. Cant think of many flops. He should be playing over Alonso, if he's a party boy so be it, anythings better than playing Alonso right now.

I never watcched him before he came to us, but there were people saying he was one of the better LBs in Serie A during his time at Roma. Although, he then got displaced by Kolarov (which is odd) and never got back into the team. It's entirely plausible that it was poor scouting on our part and he isn't actually that good. He has shown glimpses he's a good attacking LB, but I don't watch him in training all the time like Sarri does.

If we sell him without giving him a proper go, I will be really pissed.

How about we stop signing so many new LB's and actually play the ones we do have?

Luis comes in, is sold the next season. Rahman comes in, he flops, get's loaned out and injuries have slowed his progress. Alonso comes in, overall has been a very good signing, but has been really poor in recent times. Emerson is signed, has barely been given a chance, and now we have rumours of him being sold too.

It's getting ridiculous.

And Barca sometimes buy crap, i cant think of too many Juve flops these past years. Even szczesny been a good signing for them.

Emerson suffered a bad injury.

I think we all can agree Alonso hasn't been great the last few months, the terminology you have used is not really fitting and in especially bad taste to those who know someone or battling cancer themselves.

I’m completely with you. I hate it when people make cancer remarks, I lost my mum to cancer last summer (She was only 52!) And I think it’s really distasteful.

Usually it wouldn’t bother me but after losing a few close relatives to cancer I think people should be more considerate.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I've had two good friends diagnosed in the past 12mths, the news is devastating.

I disagree.

Players that start for the Top 6 that I wouldn't trade Alonso or Willian for...

Arsenal

Kolasinac
Mustafi
Sokratis (he's not a fulltime starter)

(Ironic that this bunch held Chelsea without a shot, but man for man, I don't think any of those three are very good)

Manchester United
Ashley Young

that's it really.

Looking at fullbacks - I'm no fan of Rose or Trippier, but they're playing better than Alonso right now. Same with Shaw.
Looking at Front players who also play wide - Martial, Rashford, Lingard, Aubameyang, Son, Lucas, Sterling, Sane, Salah, Mane..  I'd take any of those over Willian. Lingard would be close, but for all of Willian's "defensive contributions" Lingard high presses much better than Willian.

Put Willian at LCM in this system and we might have a different conversation, but as a left/right wing, he's the worst winger in the starting Top 6 with the possible exception of Lingard.

Henderson, Lovren, Lingard, Kyle Walker, Otamendi.

Lovren has been starting a little more regularly, hasn't he? Put him on the list.

I'd take Walker over Alonso in a heartbeat, but he's lost his starting spot the last few games. If we have Walker at RB and Azpi at LB, did we just get better or worse?

Henderson and Otamendi are spot starters these days, CB pairing at City is Stones / Laporte

Calm down, 99% of rumours are just that.

I dont think its hyperbolic to suggest Alonso is the worst player that consistently starts for any side in the top 6.

If Emerson cant get in over him, we have to move him on, FWIW, I'd play Emerson Thursday and if he performs well, leave him in the team, Alonso is doing nothing for us but killing us, hes a cancer in this side.

How on earth can you start off with saying I don't think my post is hyperbolic then go exaggerate everything to the max and compare Alonso to a deadly disease, do you even know what hyperbolic means?

No problem giving your opinion mate, that's what this forum is all about, but using the terminology cancer when describing football is a way off the mark, it's only football after all, Cancer is cancer and is way more important!!! Sorry to be all high and mighty, I leave that to others on here, and I'm no good at writing some of the fantastic Posts people put on here either, but I'm sure lots on here have been effected by cancer. Anyway I'm sure you didn't mean to offend, and going back to your thoughts, yes I agree why not play Emerson Thursday and if plays well keep him in,at least he would provide more attacking threat.

And @RIP Mourinho you lose credibility when you endorse stupid posts like that, that's the snidey reception about players you don't like we were talking to you about in the MOTM thread.

Why? I couldn't agree more with this bit:

Personally, I think the cancer comment is being blown way out of proportion.  It's a quite common phrase used in sports to describe a player that is causing problems within the team.  I lost both my grandmother and father in law to cancer, and my mother in law is a cancer survivor, but I wasn't at all offended by the comment.  But that's just me.

Do I think Alonso is a cancer in the team?  No.  From what I can see, he is a good teammate, and quite obviously has no issues with the manager, considering he plays every match.  What he is, is a player out of form, who has been for months, and his teammates (mostly Hazard), have shown outward frustration with his play.

Agree, it's just a phrase. No different to calling someone a parasite etc.

He needs a rest and we have a backup that no one really knows what he's capable of. I refuse to believe that he could contribute any less than what Alonso currently offers.

Among w**kers, maybe.  In civilised conversation it's a disgusting misuse of what is possibly the worst thing that could happen to someone.

If you have family history and still treat that sort of comment as not offensive, then I'm not sure you understand the consequences.
