Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

I think that is the problem Valerie, we don't know what is going on , because the Club in its infinite wisdom, do not think we have a right to know

But that's just it, we have NO right to know. None. Wish people would stop having the expectation that everything needs to be communicated to us. Because it doesn't. We are fans out of choice.

Pre-season has started and Conte is our manager. That's that.

“For those wondering/speculating. Conte was at Chelsea's training ground today, but he did not do the players' medical tests etc. Pre-season training, which he has prepared for, starts on Monday. Amazed he is still head coach, but that could change at any moment.” Matt law

#cfc pre-season will get properly under way on Monday. Today was just the standard fitness & cardio tests players go through on first day.Conte plans to take session in two days’ time but club still working on Sarri. One source describes situation as ‘political mess’.”

If Conte is there for pre-season and then we sack him, then that is complete farce. It's like somebody said a few pages back, if this was our rivals, we would all be laughing at them if they were in this position.

We aren't asking much as fans, we just want a bit of clarification on the direction we are going.

That was me mate and its the f**king truth......of course we are being laughed at, just as we would with our rivals. I have not seen an elite Club being run this sh*t for a long time if ever.

No it means I don't know. People assume she's in charge of the decisions, rather than the implementation of decisions.

There's a subtle sexism associated with a number of posts about her as well which is very disheartening.

If you want to complain about anyone not sorting this out, its Roman. If he wanted, we could get Sarri tomorrow and Conte would be gone. For some reason, he doesn't want to do that yet.

“Conte showed up at Cobham today but wasn't involved in Team's activities and with the club didn't want to publish any of his photos on the official website. Real training begins on Monday. A double announcement is expected: Conte's sacking and Sarri’s arrival.”

{The Times}

Times reporting an double announcement on Monday.

“Jorginho to Chelsea is gathering pace. Corriere Dello Sport is now reporting that Chelsea are willing to pay €60m for him and Sarri. Napoli to decide today”.

Surely we’re not going to try and snatch Jorginho from City? And sign Golvin?

I'm over being worried or outraged about the new Manager thing, I'm sure the pre-season training will begin as planned, players don't need a manager to run those pre-season training drills. It's not even pre-season and people already given up, give it a break, save the outrage and anger for when the season kicks off. If Roman had no plan or Chelsea or doesn't give a $hit, we would have announced Conte will stay on after the FA cup win.

It’s all very strange isn’t it?

I don’t think I’ve ever known a managerial situation to be so up in the air so close to the start of a new season.

There’s something like 32 days before the transfer window closes and whilst I am sure talks for some players has already been going on in the background it’s still going to be a bit of a scrabble getting players sales and incoming sorted in such a sort space of time.

Ehhhhh of course this was going to rear its head. How about we're just tired of confusing decisions by the club? When it was Emenalo in charge of certain moves, some of you lot claimed racism when he caught criticism. How is it that when Marina was the darling of pretty much every Chelsea fan from the Hazard transfer until Mourinho 2.0's second year her gender wasn't a factor but now that she's at the forefront of some of a lot of these decisions, she can't take criticism because of her gender? Come on, that's ridiculous.

We haven't had a DOF for 8 months and atm still don't even look close to appointing one. The board have known pretty much since January that they didn't want Conte to continue yet here we are 2 seconds away from pre-season. No transfer has even been completed. When the Costa and Fabregas deals were wrapped up quickly before the last WC started, the board got a lot of praise, specifically Marina. If you can take praise then you should be able to take criticism.

She's the only recognisable face making decisions for the club apart from Roman. You shouldn't be surprised she's being criticised. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen or heard Chelsea fans criticise Roman in the past 15 years and rightly so. There really isn't much basis for laying much if any blame at Roman's feet. It's always been down to those he gave the responsibility of running the day to day affairs of the club. Why should Roman have to get involved in transfer deals AFTER making the money available?

Any fan who thinks Chelsea or any football club owes explanation for anything is deluded. Vote with your pocket if you are not happy. They can drag their feet as long as they want and don't communicate to the fans

The trouble with the club appearing (un-fan friendly) doesn't help, they rely on the fans footfall to make them successful, tbh the whole Conte/Sarri saga is a complete clusterf**k, i cant wait for tomorrow to be fair, if reports are that Conte is at Cobham in training gear, make your own conclusions

Couldn't have said it better. Fans ALWAYS matter in football. Real, Barca & Bayern are probably top 3 clubs in the world and they wouldn't dare act this way towards their fans, especially Real & Barca where the fans elect the club presidents. Even United wouldn't do this. Arsenal as stubborn, as they are, let go of Wenger earlier than they wanted to because of their fans - and rightly so.

The problem here isn't appointing a new manager. You just can't have the club in limbo like this so close to the season. Players like Tammy Abraham and co have been back even earlier than the rest of the squad and having a set manager would have benefited them a lot as he'd have had time to assess them going into next season. This is an absolute mess. It's why I was hoping we could get our business done as soon as the season was over and when I said it at the time on here, I was attacked for being impatient and what not. Well maybe those same posters prefer the current situation then.

We should just keep Conte at this point. Disrupting pre season is really bad and will likely ruin our season. There is no point bringing in a manager and giving him a couple of weeks of pre season to implement his ideas to a good level before the season starts; that's just setting him up to fail.

If we truly were desperate for a new manager then this would've been resolved weeks ago.

Pre season is the most important time for a new manager because its one of the only times within a season where you get a whole months worth of training ground time to work with the players on how you want them to play. Once the season starts you rarely get much time to do more then just a little bit of drip feeding of your ideas to the players.

You can criticise yes, but its mostly based off speculation. But when people start going into the minutiae of how she is a woman trying to act tough in a big scary mans world that you start losing people.

Don’t want to be critical but I think it’s poor from the club to allow Conte to return if they are likely to sack him. Send weird messages to the players and confuses them

Make him earn his bloody money. Use him for as long as it’s in the interest of Chelsea Football Club.

You've obviously missed the posters in this thread making reference to her gender. I found the emenalo racism stuff without any credit - because no one did make reference to it. But people ARE saying her gender is relevant.

My other point is, Roman obviously hasn't made the money available and people seem to act like that is Marinas fault. I don't know why. I also don't know why it's Marinas fault that a DoF hasn't been appointed, is that her responsibility? If doesn't seem like it. Emenalo didn't report into Marina did he? He reported into Roman.

Outside of that, I and no one else, know why things aren't happening. And I prefer to blame the top of the tree. Which is Roman. Does that mean I am not thankful for everything that's happened in the last 15 years? No. But now, I'm confused what's going on and it's a bit of a shambles.

I don't know who's said that and whoever did is clearly wrong. Don't make it seem like it's a fairly popular opinion though. That's an unfair mischaracterization.

Who here can deep down feel confident of us going into next season with Conte still in charge, and making top four or even competing? Right now I'm not at all confident about making top four next year with Conte in charge. Last season there was a lot of discontent, not just from the coach himself, but among a couple players too it seems.

I get what you're saying but you can't claim no one knows what's going on while also claiming Roman hasn't made the money available. You don't know that for sure. No one does. How does it make sense that we're being heavily linked with players that cost over 25m, 30m, and in Jorginho's case over 55m but we're finding it difficult to pay 8m for Sarri? We've thrown money like that about to buy players like Djilobodji and co whom we didn't need several times. Baba Rahman cost twice that. Zappacosta, a bang average player cost 3 times that. We just bought Barkley in January for £15m when we could have gotten him for free this summer and we didn't even need him either. So when you put all these circumstances together, it doesn't make sense to say Roman hasn't made 8m available to sign a manager whom he clearly wants (otherwise, we'd have been on to someone else weeks ago).

Anyway, I'm as confused as anyone and I'm actually quite irritated tbh. Even if we end up appointing Sarri, I don't think anyone should expect much from him this season. Our best players aren't even gonna join the squad for a while, some of them are still at the WC. We have only 3 pre-season matches and the season starts August 11th, if I'm not mistaken. This is despite the fact that Sarri's brand of football takes a while to adapt to. Brace yourselves for a tough season ahead.
