April 4, 20188 yr I Cant begin to explain how much i adored this fella, not just his undoubted talent but his actual being as a nice human being, loved his languid london tongue to explain his varied and sometime contentious opinions, God rest in peace...
April 4, 20188 yr Gutted. A gentleman and an icon of both my clubs growing up. Rest easy Ray, a true blue.
April 4, 20188 yr Totally gutted , a true Chelsea legend and a top bloke. Chelsea through and through and your be missed big time . my thoughts are with the Wilkins family at this sad time. RIP Butch
April 4, 20188 yr Devastatingly sad news, for his family and friends especially, but also for the extended Chelsea family. We truly have lost one of our own, another link with what many older fans will always think of as "our" Chelsea. Ray was the same age as me, lived next door to my uncle way back when. Not that I knew him well, more of a friend of a friend, same goes for his brothers. You'd often see Ray on the Underground on a Saturday morning on his way to the match. At the time he was already a first team regular, our youngest ever Captain, and a full England international - somehow I can't imagine meeting any of the current crop of players under similar circumstances. Not a dig at the modern game, just an indication of how much things have changed. Described as a footballing nomad, no matter where he went, no matter who he played for, at heart Ray Wilkins was Chelsea through and through. RIP Ray Wilkins 1956-2018
April 4, 20188 yr Terrible news, he is way too young to die. Butch and JT are the 2 persons that epitomise Chelsea Football Club to me.
April 4, 20188 yr Ah damn it. A great servant in so many ways for our club. Way too young to leave us. Rest in peace Ray. My thoughts and prayers for his family.

April 4, 20188 yr Only ever shook Rays hand once, but he seemed to be one of those rare people that when he spoke in the media, it seemed you knew personally. A memory I have of him was in 83 cup final for utd v Brighton, people had jumped on the band wagon starting to say he only passed side ways or backwards, then he sent a tremendous strike curling in the top corner in the final, shut my school mates up who were mostly Brighton and up at Wembley that day. Sad as it was for a small lad like me seeing our only superstar leave, for his career it was the right thing to go to Utd as we were a bit of a mess as a club at the time, but he always remained Chelsea in his heart Edited April 4, 20188 yr by chi blue Spelling

He did play a lot of square ball though could also pick a pass when needed. One of my favourites was chip from the edge of the area against Hereford in the mid 70s
April 4, 20188 yr R I P Butch. Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times through people I know, was Chelsea through and through. Great at chatting to people and good knowledge of the game. I noticed a few knocking him a few weeks back, even though he played for a lot of clubs Chelsea were his team. Best wishes to his wife and family.
April 4, 20188 yr Terrible news, can't believe. Awful life, always was with Chelsea, was supporting us everywhere, anytime and he's our legend. Just terrible news. Rest in Peace LEGEND!

April 4, 20188 yr The talk at the Bridge on Sunday was so grim, I had a bit of time to prepare for the inevitable..but now it's real, I'm still in a state of shock..just can't believe he's gone...just one of those people that's always been there in your life...as a player, as a coach, as a commentator, as a bizarre contributor to a tango advert...and he was brilliant at them all. RIP Ray...you will be missed
April 4, 20188 yr Sad sad day. I was hoping to hear he was on the road to recovery. Thanks for all the good times and the part you played in making Chelsea FC what it is today. You'll be long in the memory Butch.
April 4, 20188 yr Absolutely devastated. Such a lovely bloke. We used to go and watch Chelsea train and we was always lovely to us. I once got a ball smack in the face from a misplaced shot of his and he was very apologetic. I still have the photo my friend took of me with him - was so happy to have his arm round me.... Thanks Butch, you'll be much missed. One of us.
April 4, 20188 yr Genuinely upset about this. I always thought he would pull through. His poor family. RIP BUTCH. Thanks for the memories. Especially one of the most memorable seasons for me 09-10.
April 4, 20188 yr A real sad day for any Chelsea fan. A truly lovely man. A well spoken Chelsea legend. Let's win the fa cup for Butch. My thoughts are with his family. A truly sad day
April 4, 20188 yr So privilaged to watch Ray play many times live, Such a gifted and ahead of his time player, his ability to pass a ball around the park, his goals and his gentlemanly personality. Great loss and far too young. RIP peace Butch King of all Cockneys
April 4, 20188 yr The news hit me really really bad. I can't believe Butch is dead. Football is the loser today. Truly one of football's good guys.
