Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

@Sindrehas asked me to read a statement on his behalf;

"After the Aston Villa match today many of you will, no doubt, be coming on here to share your views that Jorginho had a very bad game. I can assure you all that you are completely mistaken. Jorginho was in fact magnificent."

I didn't think it was a penalty, he hardly touched him. Grealish makes 3 bad tackles no booking, Werner first tackle gets booked.

As i have said before, hes fine when we are winning and keeping the ball but once we go a goal down and start opening up his lack of pace gets found out time and time again. Hes too damn slow and weak for the premier league.

All round awful performance. It looks like every time we bottle a game he is the main catalyst, definitely not a big game player and we need to invest into a better creative midfielder or give gilmour more game time.

The back 5 system exists to protect him. When he's sh*te, the whole team suffers.

Gone from being one of our best players under Tuchel to a complete liability in the last month.

Might be lucky to start the final next week.

He probably keeps his place as Kova hasn't looked good and there's more chance of shagging the Duchess of Cambridge than Billy starting

It wasn't just the penalty Jack. He was out-muscled and out-run far too often today. The Traore free shot, the hospital pass to Kova that led directly to McGinn's chance. We were fortunate he only cost us one goal today.

Funny.

Also funny that me of all people have become some kind of Jorginho defender. Because I didn't think he was a good player under Sarri or most of the time under Lampard.

But he is a scapegoat for many currently. There were worse players than Jorginho on the field today yet he's the one most want to sh*t on. So it's only fair for the lad to have someone defending him

Key part in getting us to a CL-final (or are we going to discuss that too?) and also a key contributor to us getting Top 4 in the end having played every game for the last two months basically.

Worth keeping in mind for some.

That's all.

The back 5 are not there because of him. They are there because we don't have players for a 4 backline, only T.Silva is a stable enough CB for that. He had a decent first half - we still conceded the goal, what I saw during that first half is Mount missing 2 good chances and Pulisic and Werner being almost invisible part from a few runs.

Second half, terrible from Jorginho, good that he was subbed off, really bad gift of a penalty as well, IMO he knows he has no chance in that position in a 1v1 against an attacker so the only thing he can do it is to make sure that he doesn't make a penalty and he just couldn't do it, very poor decision making.

I agree and he has so many games like this, West Brom at home, Sheff Utd away, Leicester cup final all spring to mind.

If he was 19 years old and called Billy we wouldn't be having this conversation Sindre. Tuchel would have hooked him at half-time.

Absolutely has to be sold in the summer. Even if we win the CL next week.

As opposed to the 59th minute? Not a big difference.

And I disagree with the sentiment to begin with. Simply because he didn't when Gilmour had his atrocious game against Fulham.

i think he was immense against Leicester.. but has cost us 3 games this year.. having played in less than 30 in the league.. for a team challenging for the title you cant afford to lose more than 4-5 so that is why he is worrying.. Yes he is a good player but with his style we will not challenge for the title probably always be around the top 4 positions..

3 seasons under his belt, with nothing to show from it apart from EL cup. Not good enough as demonstrated today last week, etc etc. but the club will offer him an extension and the moaning on this thread will continue.

His "atrocious" game! What was so atrocious in that game? His passing, his tackling? Was he worse than Jorginho today? Against Arsenal? Against WBA? Against Leeds? Did Gilmour cost us a goal against Fulham?

Gilmour certainly wasn't MOTM against Fulham but he was hardly atrocious was he? He played with Mount and Ziyech in the middle. And the reason he played was because we had the 2nd leg against Madrid three days later and Tuchel, (quite rightly), wanted to rest players.

For me it's not about him costing us 3 games, in 3 seasons that's not a big deal but it's the fact that those 3 games are pretty recent ones, it's almost like he has a really bad game every 3rd game now in the end of the season and that's worrying. It may be a sign that he isn't stable as he used to be so I say that we absolutely need a new CB and DM even if we buy Haaland for 9999 billion bitcoins or whatever...

I do think that our midfield has done a good job overall for the past few seasons, definitely not the reason why we're "only" top 4. Liverpool is only top 4 without Van Dijk. We lack a top defender and a top striker most of all because when it comes down to it's those key positions that Conte has lost and that the board weren't able to replace ever since JT left and D.Costa.

Didnt understand "Conte has lost" ?  You refering to the manager of meant something else?

.

It's the only way to play Jorginho in the PL right now. What formation can Jorginho exist in if we don't play either a midfield 3 or a 3 CB formation?

Jorginho works when the scoreline is 0-0 or when the team is leading. As soon as we concede, we are screwed especially when the forwards are not performing.

Arguably our best attacking plays are during counter attacks. We are dreadful in open play now because teams have figured out how to play against Tuchel.

Conte couldn't replace D.Costa, lost Matic as the classic DM that we still don't have (Bakayoko was supposed to be that guy) and we're still with Zouma, Christensen and Rudiger for the CB position that he used to play. That's a lot of years of not getting world class players, I understand that it's not easy to replace someone like JT but 4 years and we still don't have a world class CB (part from T.Silva that came for free) nor a striker, nor a classical DM capable of holding the ball and passing it? That's insane, look at Pep he bought several defenders that are now a key part in his squad that wins titles...

The midfield needs as much of a proper think as our inability to get goals out of our front three.

It really depends what our ambitions are.

If it is to try and claw our way back to challenging for the title then Jorginho and Kovacic need moved on.

If to settle for top three finish and scraping fourth then they still need to go.

If it is hoping for a CL spot and a cup run the Kovacic should stay as a squad player.

I'd it's mid table then Jorginho can stay too.

Well let's not forget that Lampard played a 4-3-3 WITHOUT Jorginho this season and our defenders couldn't do the job at all.
Furthermore Jorginho had a decent season in a 4-2-3-1 with Lampard and also a decent season in a 4-3-3 with Sarri but our defenders can't defend, period.

Still the strongest in a 3-4-3 defensive wise because there you can use Christensen that doesn't choke, Rudiger that doesn't go too much crazy and even Dave that doesn't need to rely on his pace when there is a player to cover. It's all Conte's prints on the squad still, smart from Tuchel to know that the only way to try to defend is to play with a back 3 but look at the rest of the big European teams - Only we and Inter Milan (Conte's team) regularly play with a back 3.

Will need a few more bitcoins for haaland  after this weekend 🙂

I think theres a bit of an overreaction for the midfield, neither were great today, but we still dominated and created a tonne of chances.

Against leicester we were great for large parts aswell.

I think both Kovacic and Jorginho have been pretty decent under Tuchel, and I would cut them some slack considering Kova has been out injured, and Jorginho has played alot of football, and a lot of big intense matches in that period.

Kante back for Saturday, and then maybe a different option to come in and compete with the rest in the summer.

Much bigger problems in the attacking 3rd.
