Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

He was better, passing was a bit more purposeful than the usual. Having said that, that missing header in the second half let Lorente through, had that been a goal we'd been singing a completely different tune. He needs a rest this weekend, I'd say Kovacic for him.

How I saw it too. Thought both him and Barkley were very good for 60 minutes or so but both faded. Not surprising really they both put a helluva lot of work in.

Funny how us supporters see some things the same yet others differently. I posted in the match thread that I thought Barkley was poor again - our worst player on the night. He did work hard but he frustrates me by giving the ball away as often as he does and as I've touched on before, I'm just not sure he has the awareness or football brain to play at the top level. Maybe I'm expecting too much from him but last night I was calling for him to be subbed early in the second half.

That reads better!

I was a bit disappointed with Barkley as well.  His first touch isn't anywhere near good enough to play the sort of fast one-touch that we need and appear to be moving towards.  I lost count last night of how many times a pass into him seemed to  bounce off his shins and need two or three tries to get it under control.  Probably least good on the pitch last night, but

We Beat Spuds, so it would be churlish to moan.

So right YB, but now I am at that age where it's what I do best!

Thought his first half yesterday was his best half in months. Rather poor in the second half I thought when Spurs pressed more, and I am unconvinced he’s really going to cut it in this league in the long run.
I expected more from his passing game to be honest, it looks neat and tidy and all, but I don’t see much creativity there.
Many times we seem to be relying on David Luiz for that creative spark from deep and surely Jorginho needs to take more responsibility here.

Considering the rhetoric about how easy it is to stop us playing by putting a man on Jorginho, you would have thought a tactical mastermind like pochetino, defending a 1 nil lead, with his best attackers out, would've just marked jorginho if it is was that easy.

I agree with @just, he was great for 60 mins, but did start to tire when the game started to get more stretched. Still a very good perfomance from him though, and I'm sure he is looking forward to playing with higuian again.

Where were our centre backs when that cross came in blaming him for missing a header is really reaching now in actual fact he put off Lorente from making contact

Funny we win and people changed there views immediately Luiz is right most people don't understand what they are talking about, like Brexit when you ask someone what laws they want to take back from Europe.

Have a look at Hazard's goal again nibs. See where that started? Barkley.

Both him and Jorginho played several good, early forward balls last night. That is a change to how we have been playing and it was good to see IMO.

Better yesterday. Mostly because he wans't being man-marked and had more space and time.

actually he was man-marked by Eriksen - checkout that Nouman video that I posted in the Sarri thread for a deeper explanation

@ChelseaYannick: Jorginho,

Most passes in the Premier League.

Most forward passes in Europe's top 5 leagues.

Played most through-balls in the Premier League.

Won possession in the midfield third more than any other player in Europe's top 5 leagues.

Generic pundit "he's got no assists". https://twitter.com/ChelseaYannick/status/1088703515747409920/photo/1

So, about these "only sideways" passes he makes...

Rio Ferdinand wont like that.

I was in awe of Jorginho yesterday. Always found a player no matter how close he was being marked, a classy midfielder. Without him I think we’d struggle to keep hold of the ball, especially with Fabregas gone.

Kante is amazing at what he does but I think if we play him in Jorginho’s role we’d have far less possession and would be under more pressure.

I don’t understand why people have an issue with him, all he needs to do is recycle the ball and leave the rest of team to do it, and he’s one of the best at it.

Dont tell me Mikel can do the same, Jorginho will find the most awkward pass if he has to and makes it look easy.

Dan, why do think  he was so much better yesterday, lack of Spurs closing him down or players moving more for him?

That is such a poorly written piece. There is so much wrong with that it would be hard to know where to begin. Though some of the people who have bothered to read it and comment below the article have made a start.

If I was going to mark Jorginho out of 10 for his performances so far it would 6.5/10. But then that must be because I'm not intelligent enough to understand what he does right? What a load of old bollox!

The snobbery around Jorginho is sickening at times.

You do wonder if Jorginho had come from Crawley rather than Italy whether some posters would hold the same high opinions on his performances so far.

Just the whole team played much better imo, therefore improving Jorginho’s performance. He isn’t a player to take us out of a slump imo, he’ll play as well as the team plays.

Yeah the movement was much better and I think it made Jorginho’s life easier.

If we’re going to complain about the midfield then we should be looking at Barkley, Kovacic etc. Not enough goals and they’re not creating enough opportunities either.

Has Italy got any good defristas? Midfielders who can defend a bit but also get forward a bit.

Frank Lampard was a defrista. So was Michael Essien.

He broke up plenty of counter attacks last night. He is not going sniff everyone out single handedly. Its down to more than him, a team reaction defensively. It wasn't right but dont blame him solely. He canot be liable when Pedro/Luiz are giving the ball away needlessly in dangerous areas

Yeah, surprised by the comments. He did as much as he could last night given how poor everyone was.
