Let's not piss about, Kovacic is a good player, perhaps not a great one but he's very very good.

Lets !

Unless he can become part of our offensive movements, instead of just staying clear of trouble and ghosting through games, then he is useless in this set up.

People have always said Ruben looks lazy and could put in more effort, but nobody mentions Kovacic, it's like he has a free pass because of his RM branding, similar to Morata, but he has no hiding place up front on his own, unlike Kovacic in midfield.

I’m still struggling to understand what it is Kovacic is meant to be doing in that LCM position.

Both Barkley and RLC take responsibility for creating scoring chances either through passes or shots. Kovacic just seems to be there to do what Jorginho is doing but 30 yards further forward.

1 goal scored in the last 3 years. Really don't think he should be playing in that LCM position, if that one is supposed to be the goal threat.

He is a good player but I'm not convinced he is worth bringing in permanently unless we can negotiate a sensible price with Madrid. He is a good option for the squad but I don't think he should be starting over RLC on current form.

i just never saw him making a shot on goal.

I think he had one good chance against Leicester. I think on of the problems is with our midfield shooting doesn’t come naturally to most of the players. They seems to hesitate and look for a pass, in the split second the space to shoot is gone and they’ve not got a clear shot on goal.

Kovacic or kante. Not both imo.

Yeah is ironic how we drop morata and giroud for their lack of contribution up front, shove hazard out of position to make room for Willian who contributes no more than either of them do as a goal threat.

Why not Alonso there Sarri? I know who I think would score more and assist more out of the 4.

I would love to see even just a half with kovacic, jorginho, and kante in the midfield and CHO, Hazard and RLC up top.

Let's not piss about, Kovacic is a good player, perhaps not a great one but he's very very good. Technical, disciplined, hard working. Sarri wants control, with players like Kovacic you get control. He may be less dynamic and give us less of an attacking edge than Barkley or Loftus-Cheek, but we probably keep a better shape and play with more control with him there. I'd like to hope he can offer us more with time but I'd also like to hope Barkley or Loftus-Cheek can break through. I'm quietly impressed. He's a good player, it's a debut season in the Prem, in the cut and thrust of midfield. We've got quality depth in midfield and that makes a welcome change. Jorginho, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic are basically all new players compared to last season. It's incredible to think last season we had only Fabregas, Kante, Drinkwater and Bakayoko, if we disregard Barkley. Given how sh*t Bakayoko was, we really were very very thin in midfield.

What I like about him is his link up play. He gives good angles on the pass, has quick feet and good vision.

Agree, its Unbelievable pro footballers on 100k a week and they can't shoot!!!! What the f**k do they do in training. f**k about and play silly games I dare say, They should take a leaf out of Franco and Lamps book and stay behind after training and practice and practice!! Lamps and Franco didn't become two of the best prem players ever by luck, they worked and worked at it. Aw

Kovacic is NOT a chelsea player yet, so Sarri could give him every opportunity to reach his true potential, then he leaves at the end of the season and never comes back. Meanwhile, we get players on our books want out because they aren't getting deserved game time.

Considering that many fans don't recognize his contribution to the team at all and are calling for RLC to start over him (who is supposed to provide a goal threat but did nothing in the 30 minutes he was on against Leicester... but obviously isn't under any kind of scrutiny)... could you really blame him?

He is -after Eden- the most technically gifted player in the squad, provides a constant passing outlet, is as immune to pressing as his countryman Modric, has to cover for Alonso as well as the definsively terrible Jorginho AND could've even bagged two assists yesterday with a good ball on Willian and an ok ball on Hazard.

Instead, he was the first player to be substituted and now people are "let's call him out for not scoring goals"

Merry Christmas btw.

He does shoot... just not at the goal

I said the exact same thing. Of course i saw him shooting at the goal but it goes over the bar or gets blocked everytime.

Well he is not effective enough for Chelsea and thats what counts. It´s all great that Veratti doesn´t have to shoot because in front of him are Mpappe, Neymar and Cavanni but this doesn´t help us one bit. Either he starts to improve his output or he plays a different position. He doesn´t play for PSG he plays for Chelsea (on loan).

Don´t get me wrong i very much like Kovacic, i was very happy when Madrid loaned him out. His technique/dribbling/ball control/work rate is amazing but at the moment we need goals too or the Club adds new attacking players in front of him.

A chocolate teapot of a footballer and down there with the likes of Bakayoko as my all time lesst fav Chelsea player. Starts game after game after game, does absolutely nothing of any significance every friggin match and ends up being subbed every game. Never mind tho, Sarri appears to have a complete blank spot with this non player and picks him for the next match all the same.  Meanwhile, RLC, scores goals but finds himself playing second fiddle to this nonentity. Who could blame Loftus putting in a transfer request when he's being treated this way.

Oh I forgot, he can pass a ball brilliantly over five yards in non threatening areas like his equally inept partner in crime who is killing this team, so that's all right then.

However, this midfield nonsense cannot and will not be tolerated for too much longer. 95% of anyone who watches football can see what a disaster zone Sarri has created there. He has to rip it up and start again or he'll be sacked. Sadly,, I think he's to stubborn to admit he's got it very badly wrong and the outcome is almost inevitable.

Dixon back, we must have lost lately.

So, you're one of those who think if you win it means you've played well and if you lose it means you played poor. Winning or losing makes zero difference to my opinion of this player, who does nothing game after game win lose or draw. Anyway, you, the hardcore minority who still think this manager is right no matter what, along with Sarri can continue to bury your heads in the sand until he's sacked.

You should bookmark this post and come back and apologise when the inevitable happens. Unless Sarri changes course that is.

Oh, and for the record for the upteenth time - I like Sarri and want him to turn this team around as much as anyone else on here! I'm just saying what I'm seeing with my own eyes, that is all.

Oh come on. RLC is a homegrown english lad. You denying that people are looking at him differently than at a guy on loan from RM is just silly.

The only reasons to start RLC over Kova are not planning to keep Mateo and wanting to develop Ruben. Both are valid reasons, but at the moment Kovacic is a better player than both Ruben and Ross. Simple as that.
