The shot of Mikitharian was parable. 

The only thing that worries me is that he looks so small in goal. He looks shorter then pickford 

I'd wait and see for a few games before judging, but to just judge based on this game Cech made the better saves for sure and the Mhki goal changed the momentum of the game and made it tougher for us.

We know we overpaid for sure, but from looking at him these couple games at least he isn't completely rubbish, we could've done worse.

First home game nerves. Was to be expected. Don't forget he's only 23 and just moved country. He looks super agile and from the training videos his reflexes look second to none. 

His ability on the ball lools as good as advertised, thats going to be a huge assett

Cech does his season match against us, he did some great saves against us yesterday which he will let in when the Arses are playing Huddersfield or the likes. Kepa had a couple of good saves, he let one in which he could have done more, but the defence was all over the place. For his first match at the Bridge, he did quite well and I think he will grow up to be a good keeper for us.

I think Kepa really reminds me of De Gea when he first joined Man Utd. His posture, his movement, his build and apparent stature are so similar.

Like De Gea i genuinely believe that this lad can become one of the best keepers in the land, possibly in the world.

He will make simple mistakes, he will look dodgy against big strikers. I am certain it will take him a season to bed in and we will get frustrated with him and want to bomb him off upon ocassions.

Remember it took De Gea three years to become the best in the world.

Those that run our club need to be as strong willed and bloody minded as Ferguson was over De Gea and maintain the same levels of belief and i am certain he will bulk up, get into the pace of the english game and develop into possibly the best keeper we have ever had.

Anybody that have read my posts about Courtois will know that i always felt that he had a number of technical flawsto his game. The comments about Kepa are not purely to justify that narrative. I genuinely believe that with the right coaching and with same determination to persevere with him this lad could be as big as De Gea, who i rate as the best keeper in the world at the moment.

De Gea is closer to Courtois height then Kepa’s height. 

 

De Gea is 6’4 and Kepa is 6’1. Thats a massive difference when you include arm length.

I wouldn't blame him for the goal, everyone was marking poorly in the first half it probably affected his own reaction time as well.

the mistakes are inevitable, especially in the beginning of his period in Chelsea. What pleases me the most is his confidence - he dropped the ball in very easy occasions these 2 games, the goal by the armenian was saveable and yet he was cocky and commanded  the defense very well. In less than an year he'll get used to the League and dominate it like Courtois never did. Don't judge him now.

Courtois would have easily saved the first goal but hes gone and we've got Kepa, he'll be frustrated that he didnt keep the ball out but his in play passing is pretty sharp, give him time he'll grow into the mold of a quality GK.

How quickly it all changes - Courtois was being slated in here by a lot for not being all that, and for letting Barca score easy goals to secure his transfer. Now, 2 games into the season we have more than one person saying categorically that "Courtois would have easily saved" one or both of the Arsenal goals.

The most amusing bit is the certainty of hypothetical opinionation.

I dunno, Courtois often struggled to get down to his near post quickly and that's how he was often beaten. 

Kepa probably should have kept it out, got a hand to it but not strong enough to keep it out. 

I'm sure he's only going to get better though given game time to build his confidence. 

Agree with your point about his passing and distribution though, that side of his game already looks quite good.... Looks a lot more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Courtois ever did.

I've always rated Courtois and I still do, hes a pr*ck for doing what he done to get his move to Madrid but theres probably only 1, maybe 2 better GKs in the world than him.

In saying that, I'm delighted we've got Kepa and I wouldn't slate  or be overly critical of him for a relatively soft goal because the back line left him far too exposed on Saturday allowing Arsenal half a dozen cut backs and clear chances.

His distribution and how he doesnt just punt it up the middle will be an asset for us, that and having Kovacic and Jorginho demanding short balls into feet, even under pressure will allow us to play out effectively in the future, something Courtois was never good at.

He definitly shouldn't be blamed for the second goal. Very few goalkeepers would have saved that one.

I like the look of him. Could have had the first goal obviously but his distribution is great and is essential to our style.

@Delnino Yeah, wasn't just you, some others have said much the same thing.  We need to  differentiate between Courtois the self-centred prick, and Courtois the goal-keeper.  But many in here couldn't see that differentiation at the time.

Decent keeper he might have been, but, as someone else said just now, he let in a lot of simple goals, particularly at the near post or between his legs.  Knocking the new guy with "Courtois would have saved that" is, in my opinion, insulting and simplistic

I felt the goal that was scored near to him he really should have saved, he looked like a little boy when the slow mo replay showed him clapping his hands.

Hopefully he settles and becomes a great, a long way to go perhaps..

Our defence was scatter brained at the weekend at times, which really didnt help Kepa.

This place is for discussion, meaning theres going to be different opinions. I loved Courtois the player.

Courtois biggest problem has always been getting down to low shots in the corner, so theres every chance he wouldnt have saved it either.

True but only last year at the Emirates he made a stunning save against Sanchez low down to his right, tipped it onto the post and kept us in that game.

Still, hes gone and I couldn't care what happens him at Madrid for the way he acted in his final few weeks with the club.

I've got every faith in Kepa becoming a world class GK with us, failing that, Bulka is pretty talented too so I think we're ok for GKs for the next decade.
