Not too familiar with David.

Honestly, if I am CFC I would go after Davies. But I am sure Bayern going to want top dollars.

Think every club would want Davies, but he only leaves Bayern if he forces the move like Kroos. They don't tend to let top players leave.

Since this is the best place to find you guys, @USATim, @haviet1 and @Valpo. What do you guys like of the Barca and USA Chelsea linked wingback/fullback Dest?

He looked perdy good in the last qualifying rounds.  He’s legit.  Strong on the ball and decisive.

Nah, I think Pulisic is more of a natural talent than Hudson Odoi.

What Pulisic does, that’s natural talent, not years and years of training. The way he can dribble past players is easy on the eye.

Sometimes I wish he would be less selfish though, he likes trying to do it all on his own.

I agree. If Pulisic manages to stay healthy, put on a bit of meat, and find himself on a team - even Chelsea - that is willing to believe in him, that team will reap the rewards.

I really feel he should be brought on as a second half sub, seems too slow around the pitch at times.

Don't blame him with his chance in the first as was close to the keeper though was a good one.

The goal he did score was technically top drawer taking it down with his chest and then firing it past the keeper.

The keeper DID make a great stop, at times we have to look for explanations beyond the bias of "oh, he pooched that one." There are few young players who are as able as Pulisic to stay calm inside the box, and find clever things to do with the ball. He has assisted from inside, and scored. We can only hope Christian can maintain his health.

That's a bit a thing with Pulisic though imo. For my taste he relies way too much on his instinct. Seems like he almost always wants to dribble first, regardless the situation. Got called out big time by Thiago for this in the last game when a simple pass would have initiated a great counter but he needed to try a completely useless dribble first and consequently lost the ball immediately - because that's what he actually quite often does. And he's been a regular on the pitch for top clubs for way too many years to be excused with the age argument in my opinion.

I think that was good for him.  Thiago was like that is bovine fecal matter.  Move the ball son.

He sure made sure today to keep the ball going quickly, lol. Once he learns were a quick passpass-play and a 1v1 is viable he got everything he needs imo. Also,  less (useless) dribblings = less potential to get injured.

Honestly I think he would be good in a wingback role.  I wouldn't put him past James or Chilly but I think he'd offer a hell of a lot more to the attack than Azpi and Alonso.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pre-covid he had so much promise - the away hattrick to Burnley comes to mind.  Post-covid return he was immense and made a difference week after week.

Ever since the FA Cup Final vs. Arsenal injury its been long absences and inability to impact a game.  That's almost two years now and running out of patience.  Just not seeing his ability to impact the game anymore.  Yes he scored a nice goal vs. Liverpool, but I struggle to think of any real impact for a long time now.

Having a really bad season.

Even in the Liverpool game, despite scoring he didn't play well.

I can't remember the last time he played for us and he left me thinking "wow, what a player".

Not sure where we go with him, he's still got time on his side but after nearly 3 years at the club and 100 appearances I would have expected a much bigger imrprovement in his week to week performances by now.

He's looking worse than last season, and that's saying something. He just looks so weak. I know he has never been the strongest player, but he's looking weaker than ever these days. He has the same frame as players like Salah and Mahrez, but they are so much stronger and fitter than he is.

A let down for me this season.

Not the level we require if we want to win a league again anytime soon.

A fragile winger who is very hit and miss when he is fit.

Hangs onto the ball way too much, plays like a raw teenager.

Frustrating to watch for sure. Good for him that Hakim is doing his best to look inept too. There was this one time today were he did his usual dangerous dribbling around the center of the pitch - won this time against 2-3 City players but instead trying to pass it out to Azpi who was free up front on the wing he turns around and passes it back to our defenders. It just seems clueless. Like he doesn't really know beforehand what he actually wants to do and starts to dribble because that's the one thing he (supposed to be) good at..

Thoughts form @USATim and our other US fans onflow they felt he did today against one of the best sides in the world?

Anonymous for sure.  Don’t see the explosiveness.  He isn’t keeping the 1st touch close enough either.

That said the entire team was outclassed today.  Didn’t see anyone out there that looked good except Kovacic but he had a couple bad turnovers too.  The entire attack looked the same though,  nothing from anyone, subs included.  Seems like the back 3 has run it’s course.  What offensive players have looked good since end of November?  Not much is coming to mind.
