January 15, 20224 yr Injuries have ruined him, he's never gonna be a Champions League level player anymore, get rid whilst we can still get a good fee

January 16, 20224 yr Is it the player(s) or is it the system? I personally feel they all aren’t comfortable in playing in the half spaces he wants them to play in. Now if it’s a system issue which we might never find out, begs the question; don’t you tailor a system to get the best out of your players? I will reserve judgment till I see any of them in a back 4 before calling them poor. Take Arteta’s Arsenal last season using the 3-4-3 formation; Odegaard had 1 goal 1 assist in 14 games, this season playing as a 10, he has 4 goals & 3 assists in 18. Saka had 5 goals & 3 assists last season, he is on course to hit double figures in goals this season. Martinelli & Smith Rowe have also showed remarked improvements since they switched formations. I just can’t buy into the theory 5 highly rated players are poor. I can give you 1 or 2, but not all of them.

I just can’t buy into the theory 5 highly rated players are poor. I can give you 1 or 2, but not all of them. Well it's not like all of them have been proven in this league and are just now struggling - that is when you can question the coaching, system, environment etc. All I see is a group of attackers who consistently make bad decisions and exhibit technical failures. The system has nothing to do with Timo missing 20 sitters or Ziyech regularly overweighting a ball so much, the flash would struggle to get on the end of it. But it's reasonable to expect it from the likes of Mount, CHO, Havertz as they are younger and less experienced. The bigger issue is that the others have been just as bad. Werner is stealing a living at this point, Ziyech is clearly not cut out for this level and Pulisic... I'd still keep around as he can be useful. So there is not a single one that offers anything close to the best of City and Liverpool. I've simply never seen a collection like this at the club - guys who can't even weight a simple pass correctly in a crucial moment. Even the likes of Kalou and Malouda would be an upgrade on this lot.

I would question the system on Sat though; I reckon he tried using both Ziyech & Pulisic as inverted forwards to counter City’s lack of a natural LB. He takes all the credit when it works, like that game when his assistant suggested CHO as a WB late on in the game. There is nothing wrong with questioning why he applied both players wrongly, and didn’t bother changing it till he took them off in the 2nd half. Pulisic’s best games with Chelsea has always been on the left. He repeatedly played in on the right at Dortmund where he looked average, and has continued that here also. Lukaku was building up a partnership with Ziyech and his floated crosses on the right, but he has switched him to the left. It is all confusing.

January 17, 20224 yr He`s an absolute coward of a player, spent most of Saturday hiding from the ball, kept attaching himself to defenders so he wasn't available etc.

It's hard to work out why none of our attacking players have picked up the mantle to give us that attacking impetus. We just seem so flat and it's starting to really grate on me. January 17, 20224 yr I actually think he is one of our best finishers though not enough involved in the game, whether that is fitness or something else not sure. Supersub for me.
January 17, 20224 yr Pulisic if you want the best from him you have to play him in his position which is left, anywhere else and you wont guarantee the same return. I understand the logic behind playing him right and Ziyech left but sometimes the best strategy isn't the overly throughout masterplan but the simple play the players where they function best. I think Pulisic will come good for us but it will take some patience. Salah for example at 21 didn't really start putting in high level consistent performances in until 23/24 and same for KDB in Germany I believe. We have to accept the good with the bad when dealing with these types of players. It's why I have so much patience with CHO and even he frustrates me more than Pulisic. Tbh I'd love to see a 4231 or 433 with Pulisc and CHO on the wings actual proper wingers would be a treat

Lukaku was building up a partnership with Ziyech and his floated crosses on the right, but he has switched him to the left. It is all confusing. They weren’t inverted, that would’ve been the case if they were swapped. The reason he had them that way was most likely because we have less natural width in attacking areas with Alonso and Azpi. So Ziyech and Pulisic could more easily find Lukaku with crosses and through-balls without coming inside, which City prefers. This is all tactically sound and just like in the first loss to City, almost everything he decides makes sense - we are simply lacking severely in consistent execution.
January 18, 20224 yr Gotta agree with @LongtimerLurker here. I'm really surprised that TT seems hellbent on playing him on the right. No matter who he plays with, Pulisic always ends up being the player on the right side of the attack. Even Ziyech and Mount, who predominantly play on the right, when paired with our other attackers get shifted to the left when playing with Pulisic. Now obviously TT knows infinetely more about football than any of us, and will have thought about this and surely has his reasons, but thinking back to the great run of form CP had under Lamps after the restart in the 19/20 season when played on the left, I really think Tuchel is getting this one wrong. Pulisic always seems so much more comfortable running with the ball, when he's on the left and seeing as dribbling is his biggest asset, I really feel he would be better there. When he's played on the right he either goes past his player down the byline and then puts a weak ball in (crossing is not his biggest strength) or he goes inside and then mostly looks lost as he's on the wrong foot. On the left the pitch opens up for him and he looks much more dangerous when going inside.
January 20, 20224 yr This club is absolutely ruining Pulisic and quite honestly it's a little disgusting. I'm an American getting my first tastes of this sport and I desperately just want to see him play. Tens of thousands of Americans are in the same boat and this kid has a ton of pressure on him and he absolutely deserves to get the opportunity to live up to that pressure. If you don't think he's good enough? Fine. No problem. TRADE HIM AND MOVE ON. There are countless clubs in the Champions League who would love to give him full starter minutes as their FULL TIME LEFT WING. This is clearly his best position and he literally almost never gets an opportunity to play in his actual best position. I saw this man look like a superstar for a few weeks last year when he was in top form and with these minutes he's getting there's no chance he gets anywhere close to that. I don't want to hear the injury BS. Yes he gets injured, but he's also been healthy and getting benched for more time than he's been injured. I just personally care about Pulisic but its also unfair to Havertz, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Werner (well maybe not this dude who just seems to blow all his chances).... The only person who doesn't get shafted by minutes is Mount because he's the golden child who came through your own system. Has anyone here stopped to think that perhaps Mount is excelling while everyone else I mentioned is not because HE GETS CONSISTENT MINUTES. Maybe I just have no idea how international soccer works, but this idea of just signing dudes left and right and creating inherent logjams just seems like the stupidest way to build a roster. I pray for the day Chelsea finally decides to cut ties with Pulisic. Please God just do it already.

January 20, 20224 yr Sometimes the posts I see here from my fellow Americans make me cringe a bit. It's definitely in everyone's best interests to see Pulisic do well. Sure you all can criticize Pulilsic's poor form as much as you like, it's what these forums are for. But honestly, I can't think of any forward on this roster that can proudly claim that they have a productive season thus far. They're all have been under performing.

January 21, 20224 yr I thought Pulisic looked ok under Lamp last year but after Tuchel took over everything went downhill

Imagine having a talented 20 year old (like Pulisic once was a long time ago) but that isn't injury prone... Somehow I just keep seeing Pulisic ending up in Arsenal, sorry.
