The funniest thing is the timing of it (the reports starting or starting again in the latter's case) strongly suggests that Gusto and Enzo may potentially be signed as a response to this.

Which makes me think it was Spurs that complained, trying to screw over a rival but inadvertently helping them to the point it may help us get above them in the league and maybe even compete hard in Europe again this season sounds just the type of the thing that only they can pull off.

Does that mean you are starting believe Enzo will indeed arrive?

If pushed I'll still say no but this very could be why we've suddenly started trying again.

Oh no doubt rich people like Todd and Co have sources to know about this stuff before we do.

I think there is every chance we shelved Enzo till the summer in case we miss out on CL but these changes have changed our thinking.

People have said take the fine if we break FFP, but if we do I expect it won't be a fine but bans from UEFA comps and points deductions from the PL. I cannot see us just getting away with a fine.

Its all well and good signing all these players on very long contracts but what if they are flops or cant adjust to the PL? Lots of players from other leagues have been brilliant there and come to Chelsea and flopped. A player on a 7-8 year lease like KK are trapped in Chelsea and wouldnt want to move on. At the end of the day its the club that suffers and one day all these problems will catch up with the club.

KK is trapped because he's old and on massive ages.

It's a lot easier to move a player on if they are under 25 and earning less than 100k/week

UEFA must of been f**king gutted, genuinely gutted when we won the Champions league in 2012 and 2021. They fail miserably at hiding their blatant agenda.

It's been obvious even before we won it. That Barcelona game in 2009 is without a doubt one of the biggest sporting injustices of all time. Even now when I see clips of that it angers me.

Plenty of people will say we are wrong for thinking this way. Funny that.

Whether the massive spending is sensible or crazy, only time will tell. But it's certainly not dull, much more entertaining than the actual football. Add an Enzo and Gusto and we will call it a full house.

Did we create the loophole? Nah but we found it and are taking advantage of it. So, therefore it’s evil and naughty and Chelsea must be stopped!!

If it was Liverpool, Man U, Barca etc etc using this loophole, it would be what it is. “Nothing can be done. The rules are the rules”

If they bring in the 5 year limit, then it f**ks anyone else taking advantage ,  so we're ahead of the pack ?

This is the best way of looking at it, clubs would no doubt copy the blueprint; we benefit from it then close the book.

We joke about our owners but this was a master stroke, Boehly & Eghbali are elite in this regard.

On the less positive side, Man-City not raising any flags with their highest revenue in club football and fake sponsors is the clearest indication nothing will ever be done about them. The Sheiks & UEFA are in bed with each other, for all our wealth, nothing competes with their state money and backhanders.

You can't make this up. Barca skirted the lines of FFP throughout the whole summer and UEFA did nothing but when Chelsea find a loophole (not breaking any rules) they suddenly change the rule book. As much as I disliked the super league, sometimes I wish it happened just to piss off UEFA.

I'd say the sheiks and all of football. Look how quick Roman was ousted compared to how happily they welcomed Newcastle's owners.

Very true. Hard to look past the agenda at times, and now we’re battling an anti American capitalist theme. Clearly UEFA scramble to maintain any sense of power.

Long contracts aren’t new. We did the same for James. Honestly not quite sure how limiting contact length even holds up in employment law should an employer wish to offer, and you could argue goes against the best interests of the player - aren’t UEFA supposed to be about what’s best for the player?

This whole thing just sows how thick some fans are, the fact they are laughing at Chelsea for being "caught" and how it will cause us problems. Not realising we are now the only club that can actually take advantage of it as the loophole will be closed after we have built our squad for the next 6/7 years. I expect we will now buy another 2/3 players on long term contracts.

I think the new rules don’t limit long contracts, you just can only spread the cost over 5 years. So yeah,  give an 8 year contract out but you can only spread it out across 5 years.

I suppose the question is, does this scupper Bohley’s plans? And what will he do to navigate it financially?

I dont think it will, I expect this wasnt the kind of window they were planning to have every time, its a one off to build a young squad with long term stability to enable the club to build over the next few years with them, while adding a few players every window to compliment and replace players. So this window now was the important one, the one with all the effort, closing the loophole now will have no effect on us at all, what it will do is stop any other club doing it.

Yeah I suppose at the point, the club will only need to buy one or two players per window. Won’t be on mass.

Quite true.  Obvious example being Juan Veron.  Truly world class in Italy. Very ordinary in the Premiership. Silky skills but couldn't adjust to the tempo
