Mason Mount

seeing as everyone takes the word of Fabrizio as gospel, can we agree the club f**ked this one up now?

The club did the right thing and those guys that were brought to identify talent are not here just for the new arrivals, but to asses the current squad, too.

Is Mount's ceiling that high? For me it is not. He is not a 200k a week (or more) player and I am glad Winstanley and the other guys are ruthless in that aspect and give a fair assesment & offer.

It's not a secret anymore we'll be playing a 4231 under Pochettino with two holding midfielders and Nkunku at "10". Mount is not a holding midfielder and an average no. 10. The only way he'd have been a starter under Pochettino is if he was the no. 10 and Nkunku was on the left.

Which leaves Mudryk out of the team and no way this was posssible as Mudryk is one of those that the club made a big investment in and to be fair Mudryk's ceiling is probably one of the highest in Europe in terms of young, raw players.

Nkunku on the left and Mount at "10" would have worked, too. But Mudryk on the left and Nkunku at "10" is way more better.

Chelsea offered him a very decent salary.  That is the truth of it.

Absolutely.

I'll never begrudge any worker looking to get better pay anyway they can, even by moving to the rivals/competition or using them as leverage in negotiating better pay with current employer.

200k per week wasn't enough for him because he determined it not and that's good enough, but for him and his team to make it out like the club tried to do him dirty is just wrong.

He was looking for more money and that's ok. The person that gave him the moniker Mon£y Ma$e was spot on and let's leave things as they are

He isn't a Chelsea legend, isn't Chelsea through and through and hasn't achieved anything in his career yet that should emboldened him to morally hold Chelsea FC by the gonads for improved pay.

What he is though, is believe he is worth more than he is and that's okay. He is similar to Lukaku, Havertz and all others some people like to have umbrage at for having such beliefs. It'd be nice if they applied this consistently to Mon£¥ Ma$€ too.

Now where did I say Mount was offered a pay cut? Where did I say anyone has been offered a pay cut to stay?

It is obvious we are clearing the deck of big wages. Koulibaly, Ziyech, Havertz, Kante, all big, big earners, all gone with RLC, CHO, Dave and Pulisic to follow.

We have also introduced this new wage structure to not had out the big contracts Roman did or the new owners did in their first window.

My point was, if you want to the be accepted and respected across the board you cannot have players like Sterling, Cucurella or Kepa earning big wages while others were cut for no CL and on a lower basic. Has to be evenly applied across the squad.

Which is where James, Sterling et AL pose a problem..

Adding to this thread that we should be getting rid of sterling and Kepa to balance the wage bil otherwise they are hypocritical, implies that we got rid of mount to save money. We sold mount because he wouldn't accept the wage we thought he was worth, that I would be fairly certain places him in the top 6 or 7 players at Chelsea. Mount doesn't deserve to be top 3 earner at Chelsea.

We simply didn't offer Mount "Sterling money" because we didn't think he was worth it. We offered James that we because we did. We offered Cucu that money because we were thick - and by all accounts we've been trying to ship him out - and the owners would obviously love to cut wages of players like Kepa, that's not possible.

Yes, the club don't come out of this smelling of Roses either.

I don't see any issue with this at all. There is no way Mount is different to any other player. Take Tammy Abraham, had a similar run through the juniors had a chance in the PL season and was sold. Welcome to being a professional sports person.

Mount is on wages that few people will ever earn. Sure its only a 10 year career at that level but after 10 years he will have earned 50 m in wages plus the income from whatever he invests in. People making and paying those kind of wages make fairly strict commercial decisions.

But part of that is the culture. If you don't get on, don't feel you belong you likely wont be at your best and your future income is at risk. Equally you tend to outperform when you are with your mates and enjoy what you are doing.

Chelsea are being set up completely differently to how it was in the past. Lots of young players on long contracts with performance related pay. Speaking from investment banking experience I like the system, it isn't perfect, it isn't always fair but if you perform you get paid. Provided the right incentives are in place to encourage team as much as individual performance and provided you "fit in" it will generally work.

Whether the club or mount "stuffed" it up I will never know and nor care less.

What I see is that prior to Mount leaving we had Mount, Sterling, Mudryck and maybe even Nunkunku competing for that one position. Its far from clear that Mount was going to get that position on a regular basis and I will bet anything he felt the pressure of that.

That was not the way I meant it to come across, in terms of Mase, and i get it, it is his thread so I can see why there is a misunderstanding here fella.

I understand and agree with most of what you say on Mount, apart from I do feel he deserves to be one of the club's top 3 earners, (James, Mount, Enzo).

In terms of the owners being hypocrites that is absolutely what I mean. You cannot be asking players to accept this new wage structure and expect it to be sunshine, rainbows and success if you keep Sterling at 325k a week, Kepa and Cucurella at what ever stupid wages they are on. Even James.

I know Lukaku is the highest but we clearly are doing our best to get rid of the Muppet.

You know it has been a long time since I have been this gutted we lost a player.

I think it was Roman's takeover being too late to stop Zola going back to Italy.

Even Hazard I felt he had left us with so many wonderful memories and he was going on to fulfill a dream (or rather nightmare) that I was ok with it.

Mase though...yeah gutting.

Sterling is a mistake we are going to wear for another year, as much as I hate him and thinks he's the most overrated footballer in the last 10 years in the PL, his status affords him that wage we gave him.

Kepa no one's taking him and so we are going to let the contract run down.

Lots of rumours we tried to ship Cucu. I wouldn't be surprised to see him out the door before the window closes.

You can't change everything in one year, but they've done a LOT.

Also James is our future captain and a world XI player (when fit). He is the player that should be setting the top mark on wages and sets a standard off the pitch I'd like to see the rest of the club try to emulate.

Murdyk hasn't showed anything that he actually belong on the field let alone thinking to build the team around him.

All those pictures of him and Reece as young boys in their Chelsea shirts, all those comments he made about being a Chelsea legend

and he goes to The scum for money

Sorry but you know what comes next ………… Judas !

We are living in 2023. There is no such thing as loyalty or becoming a legend anymore. It`s all about social media, money and going the way of least resistance. I am not at all surprised. You can`t expect anything else from this current generation of players.

And also: If you re-watch some of the stuff Mason Mount has published on social media you would probably come to the conclusion that he is a moron anyway. His weird dancing, the stupid "fashion" ... Just irritating. Makes me think he could turn into Dele Alli 2.0

Don’t disagree with that …… but a Chelsea legend would go abroad, he is only marginally better than Durie and Poyet in that he didn’t go to Spurs

He will try and appease us with words but he will soon be kissing their badge

There are Chelsea legends and then there is this guy

We went from the likes of JT, Lampard, Drogba, Cech, Essien etc. to a literal man child.

United’s wage structure is bonkers. Fair play to Mount, especially with it being 300k pw with bonuses but f**k me that is madness. These kind of personal terms end up being a reference point for the game as a whole, United muddying the waters once again.

Right? Crazy offering 300k to a player that isn't even going to start
