To be honest, maybe it was a bit of a soft penalty, but it's Alonso's fault for being a moron in that situation. Yet again he proves his inability to be reliable in a back 4. We need to invest in that area in the summer, a marquee signing left back is needed, Emerson is good but we need depth. Look at City and their fullback options, Any of their 4 full backs would stroll into our team

I think Alonso is a good backup, Emerson can do the job there. But we should invest either for a new left back or right back surely.

What Lampard does in second half will indicate whether he is that arsed by the league Cup. If he is he really needs to be hooking Batshuayi and Gilmour.

Shame for Gilmour when he will be desperate to impress but he has been a rabbit in the headlight and we are getting bullied in the centre of the park.

In my opinion we had an awful half, could not string 2-3 passes together, slow, always second to the ball, always passing back all the way to Willy. United had more shots on goal than us and i think they controlled the half well. To many poor performances from us. Something neds to change in the second half. COME ON CHELSEA 

Midfield is being overrun. Needs a tactical change. Batshuayi isolated and he's not really great unless there are players next to him.

Ashley Cole is in our coaching staff now and i'd still take him at LB over Alonso. Played well for Derby last year.

It's expected to be a pen but the challenge was very minimal. Arguably the ref made up his mind before the challenge came in

Alonso's defending was poor, but unless he actually commits a foul, then it doesn't really matter. There is no foul there. At most, they touch, but no way was James impeded, he just fell down.......like he always seems to do in the penalty area.

Really want to see more of Billy but this isn't the game for him, he lacks the experience and he's not making himself available enough or connecting the midfield to the attack. 

Not to be harsh on him, I just think he should be replaced otherwise United are going to have more success in the midfield.

OK but Alonso has been playing a lot of games now since Emerson has been out injured and he overall has been doing a decent job.

That was a penalty without question, anyone who's thinking it's soft needs to look again alonso basically switched off and got caught made a tackle he was never going to win

I agree Loz, I knew as soon as Alonso was chasing after James he was going to concede a penalty, it was blatent, he looked like an absolute donkey there.
