It's not a knee-jerk reaction. It's not based on this match alone and I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed that about him.

There's nothing embarassing about voicing an opinion. He's a major talent who has to play a whole lot better to justify a starting spot on the team, his age is irrelevant. If you're good enough, you're old enough. Haven't we all spent years here hoping our talented youth to get a chance? So now that they do, we should ignore their flaws?

Poor 1st half, better 2nd half but still not good enough for the possession we had.

Too many players off colour today.

James improved in the 2nd half and was probably our best player.

Not gutted about going out of the cup but definitely annoying going out to this Man Utd side.

They are not that good but have already beaten us twice.

Definitely needs to work on his finishing, of that there is no question. Just found it bizarre that you brought up his ability to beat a man one on one when that was clearly one of his biggest strengths prior to a horrific injury that he is yet to fully recover from.

And his age is definitely not irrelevant. He's 18. Hasn't been a regular in the first team prior to this season and when you take that and his injury into account, surely it's not too much to ask to give him the benefit of the doubt and at the very least have some patience?

Had to listen to 2nd half on talkSPORT so missed the 2 wonder goals. 

Not nice to get beat twice by that lot so early in the season especially how Shyte they’ve been up until 2 or 3 matches ago. 

Heard a little bit of  the managers post presser. It’s not the end of the world losing but I’m not gonna slag the comp cus it’s a nice cup to win come February 

roll on the weekend and Watford away who’ve got 5 points on the board !!

Tammy played for almost 20 minutes and barely had a touch with the ball, I don't see that you have any argument here.

No really you lost the plot here, even the commentator said the goal reminded him of Drogba, and you got something bad to say? Focus then on someone else that obviously did much less in this game...

Agreed with you. This is the 2nd or 3rd game that he's been poor. If he's not 100% fit or need more time to get up to speed, then let him get that with the reserve team. If he's too young or  still too immature to be consistent, then let him come off the bench until he can prove he's consistent. At his current performance, he does not deserve to be in the 11 ahead of others.

And that goes for every players, as Lamp said. You have to keep that message across the board so the players respect it, and keep the competition strong within the team.

Pretty much spot on. Kovacic is a reliable 7 out of 10 week in week out player for an Everton or a Villa. He isn't and never will be a consistent first team midfielder for a team with any genuine ambition to challenge for major trophies. When Kante is fit he is the obvious one to drop out.

Don't get me wrong Loz I thought he was truly dreadful last season, (apart from 15 minutes in the final against Le Arsenal), and I was 100% against us buying him in the summer. However, he has definitely improved this season and I'm now glad he is in the squad. But IMO he is still not good enough to keep out a fit Kante or RLC.

Agreed. Despite the transfer ban I was for letting him go. But I think Lampard's different philosophy has benefited him but he is still behind four players for one of the three midfield places. If he is happy to play a supportive role (like Mikel was) then I would be happy to keep him but he is never a week in week out starter.

just returned from my local Chelsea pub here in Sac-Town. I took a buddy of mine who is a manure fan. He danced & singed at the end, but he was quiet as hell when Bats took in 3 defenders & buried that ball into the back of the net. This loss will hurt for a while 

Top 4 and champs league are our priorities this season. I never want to see us lose or go out of a competition before someone calls me ungrateful etc. but with all our injuries as the moment, going out probably helps Is in the two main competitions I’d say.

Just got home, four questions. 

Was it a pen? (Didn’t look it)

Has Daniel James got some sort of inner ear infection that’s causing him some issues with his balance? (Seems to be in a constant state of falling over)

Was it actually a foul for their free kick?

How many of the blatant 458 handballs from their side were handball?

Answers on a postcard...

Disappointing result, no getting away from that. We lost to a very poor team for the second time this season, this time in our own back yard though. Good experience for a few who played, hopefully.

 

Think Frank should have taken the cup a bit more seriously. One thing Jose was right on was building a winning mentality, and he did so by first winning the League cup. Though more importantly it is a trick lost for squad players and other youth players to get more game time. Having said that they did get the time here and were not good enough to score 2 goals against a poor team. They did not step up, or at least some did not.

 

Disappointing, but we are ahead of my expectations already in the league and CL so far. Cannot win every game unless you are Liverpool right?

I wouldn't say he didn't take it seriously. Two starting selections were very inexperienced but that's hardly unusual in the league cup. A few too many just either didn't show up at all or drifted in and out of the game.

In fairness we lost due to a really soft pen from our point of view and a fluke. Was hit and hope from Rashford as he does not have the quality to pull that off too often imo.

With Mount rested, plus the injuries, we're a bit thin on the ground for midfield options right now. When Kante, RLC and Barkley are all available again, we should be alright.

Pretty much all the attacking midfielders were unavailable for tonight. Frank might have been better off selecting Anjorin instead of Gilmour for this one.

Good to see James and Guehi both get 90 minutes.

It’s been referred to over the years about Jose taking the LC seriously and winning a cup early on. However Jose had the best squad bar none in the league and wasn’t dealing with a young inexperienced squad, which is riddled with injuries, trying to compete in CL and secure top 4 against all expectations. 
Disappointing defeat against these tossers but squad members needed rested/rotated.
