Let's be honest we deserve to lose, piss poor performance and attitude from a lot of our players against an extremely poor United side. That is not what I wanted to see after the way we lost at Old Trafford.

We have no excuses, created very little in this game and got what we deserved. I think United wanted it more than us and they got lucky as well but to be beaten at home by such a bad team speaks volumes about how poor we were today. Extremely frustrating night...

Let's focus on Premier League and hope we learnt something  today

We were flat, other than a spell in the second half until we scored. Pulisic anonymous, Alonso atrocious. We just weren't good enough. Lampard's lost twice this season to Solskjaer and that's not a good look. Horrible way to lose our winning streak, without really putting them under concerted pressure and having a real go. If we want to be a top team we need to scare the living daylights out of teams when we go behind. That didn't happen tonight.

Zouma and Guehi were good today.

We conceded two goals, but I can't blame one of them. They had to deal with Rashford and James's speed and they did it good.

Overall our defence was pretty good, Alonso was the target for United.

Bats goal aside, we just created nothing all game.

Attack was totally out-muscled by their defence. Midfield was bossed. They didn't even really look like doing much, a pen and a free kick, but little else, and we still couldn't beat them.

Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi were poor and offered little-to-nothing all game.
Batsyaui scored a great goal, but was otherwise poor.
Gilmour looked like a child out there, getting absolutely bossed and beaten up. Nowhere near ready to play against PL opposition.
Midfield was non-existent towards the end, with so much space for Man utd to run into.
And of course, Alonso was Alonso.

first half Marcos Alonso 0/1 Manure

second half Pedro 1/2 Manure

a kid named Gilmour was missing from his parents beside a tout  kid called Geneih.

this is what I saw....

Sorry to be dark

but it was a training session

7 seconds out of 90 minutes doesn't equal a good performance.

Yes it is. He did more than any other attacker for us, Rashford did even less but kicked a ball into the net from 2 set pieces and won them the game. That's football mate learn f**king something for once.

Disappointing to lose to Utd again but we're going to have to accept games like this with so many youngsters / new players still learning.

We were the better side but they carried more of an attacking threat and Rashford is proving a thorn in our side these days. Thought we played really well in stages but you have to stay focused and too many players either started badly or faded. Very disappointed with both Pulisic and CHO tonight - they need to be our match winners with no Hazrd to call on for these occasions now and both were poor - but again, young players will be inconsistent and with no Willian and Pedro offering nothing when he came on (bar giving away free kicks), we'll just have to put it down to one of those nights.

Dunno James was very good.

I thought he was as poor as anybody in the first half. From what I have seen of him so far, he's looked a bit lazy and slow to react. I'm waiting for him to go on a sprint, but he always looks like he is running at half speed. Either he's lazy, not very fast or a bit top heavy. He kind of reminds me of Luke Shaw when he put the extra muscle on. I don't think he was the worst player today, he was probably one of the best, but I don't think anybody had a good game really. Guehi was probably the most solid of the lot.

People have said that James should be in the team ahead of Azpilicueta this season, but I don't think he is anywhere near ready to take that spot yet. I would have Azpilicueta over him easily at the moment.

Oh come on Just, if Barkley put in that performance that Kovacic did you would be saying he needs to be a starter.

He drastically improved in the 2nd half. Jorgi and Kova were definitely slow in the first half though, as was everyone.

Kova simply doesn't have enough quality in the final third for me. And it shows in most games. His decision making and finishing when an opportunity does present itself is shocking for an experienced midfielder. Kante is by far the better player in every aspect IMO. Sorry.

We were too slow. Lamps giving minutes to youngsters and bedding Reece in.

Good show from Reece and Guehi. Gilmour needs to add muscles and hope he's not finished growing. Pedro needs to be moved on. We need to buy a world class winger and fullback the moment the ban finishes

Leave it to Jose to unearth an NBA player that can play DM.

Strangely don't feel too disappointed. Looked like it was heading for a 0-0 or 1-1 after the first 10 minutes. If it wasn't for a worldie free kick it would probably have ended up penalties.

Delighted with Reece and don't know why we don't just switch Dave back to left-back instead of playing Alonso.

As for the rest- it's a night to forget and probably a reality check. Looks like CHO might need a full season to get back into form which is worrying.

I think James is slowly getting ready to be our first choice right-back.
He was the best player tonight if you ask me. Azpili will be 31 next season, he had a good performance in his last 5 games so he's doing very well but he needed this rest and next season should be his last one with us.

Is this a joke? Our most productive winger per minute this season, but one average game he should go back to the reserves? strange.

Although what other wingers is he competing against? By this rationale is Pulisic a winger or a midfielder? Because from playing in a similar position from the left side he came up with a hattrick in one game, so i am not sure who has been the most productive,

“Chelsea ended that match with 65% possession but only two shots on target.”

I think that stat says a lot about our performance.

Defence were good - Gheui and Zouma played well. All of the midfield and attack were poor and offered nothing going forward.

That said, it’s better to go out at this stage than get through to the semi’s and lose. We don’t need this competition and should focus on getting top 4. I would rather go out now.

Nothibg to get too worked up over - just annoying losing to United. They’re rubbish.

Frank really should have made that move at half time. Would have taken care of United constantly targeting our left side and given us more solidity defensively.

Well that was sh*te, only turned up for the first half of the second half!

Hats off to young Gheui, while all the other players were moaning at the ref or having a cuddle with the opposition he was the first over to the North Stand to applause the fans.

Thought James got better and better as the game went on and was one of the pluses from tonight. He needs more game time and I don't think he yet has the confidence to go on surging runs for us as he did for Wigan but I think he will be a star for us in time.

Kovacic is one of those players who looks good at times in a game but you still find yourself cursing him for silly errors and losing the ball carelessly and think there are probably better options when everyone is fit. He just doesn't have any kinda goal threat in him and both Kante and RLC (when fit) will be ahead of him selection wise and he will be battling with Barkley on the subs bench.

'learn f**king something for once' hahahaha learn some grammar, buddy. Don't use that tone with me little boy.

Batshuayi cost us the first half, broke down every attack and couldn't control a ball today. Tammy should have been on at half time.

Not that bothered about the result although disappointed most about our creativity up front. For the amount of ball we had we didn’t test their keeper all match.

CHO irritates me. Isn't he supposed to be the next best thing? Can he beat any defender one on one? All he did for 90 minutes was receive the pass and pass it back. Oh, and he can't shoot worth sh*t.

He definitely had a poor game, but is all of this really warranted? He's 18 years old ffs, not to mention he just recently recovered from a horrific injury. You've come to the conclusion that he can't beat a defender one on one based on today's match alone? Because that is clearly one of his strengths.

This is such a knee-jerk reaction and quite frankly embarrassing.

First home loss in the League Cup since 2013.

Very annoying to have lost to United again. Under Solskjaer, they've beaten us 3 out of 4 times in all competitions so for whatever reason they seem to have the wood over us at the moment despite us being a superior team. Further, we haven't beaten them in any competition since November 2017.

We looked very flat in the first half, but I liked the response in the second half. Rashford's free kick was undoubtedly a great goal, but outside of that United didn't create that much either.

I suppose the upside is this is only the League Cup, but it still feels deflating that our winning streak in all competitions has come to an end.

Expect the boys to fire up and respond on the weekend against Watford.

Agree 100%. There will be matches like this with young players still developing. I thought we lacked answers against the back 5. It requires movement to pull teams out of position. Michy, Pulisic and CHO were all very static. Our goal was from a long ball and bad defending, no real threat.
