So confused, someone explain why the f**k do we pass pass and pass in our own half, then pass back to our keeper, who kicks it out and we lose possession. While this faffing around is going on nervousness is creeping in with each successive pass.

The whole point of that is to try and draw the press, allowing us to hopefully break the press and have space to attack into. It's all about moving the opposition around to create a mistake, a slip, a misread etc. The midfielders and attackers are constantly moving at this point trying to break the marking.

But the players at the back are not good enough to break the press. Too slow. Too predictable. It’s paint drying Sarri-ball again.

Getting all a bit technical this football lark these days, let's just go Wimbledon 80's style, the new crazy gang!!

City were too good for us tbh, they’ve cut our passing lanes and suffocated us, and sadly Lampard didn’t have an answer.

Still we’ve matched them and we’re a very young team. Give it a year or two and hopefully we’ll be even better than them.

Yeah I don’t think there was a point to it this time (even though I thought there might be earlier on) and SFL confirmed this in the postmatch interview. They just got scared of making a mistake once city got under their skins, I think.

Agree. And when you look at it like this, many of the criticisms of individual performances are moot. Sure, players made mistakes. But they make mistakes in all matches - big difference is we were up against a team able to ruthlessly capitalise on them where others couldn’t. Second half, they were able to shut us out in a way that other teams couldn’t.

Was always going to be tough against a very good City side with all the quality they have at their disposal but early on we looked really good and for large parts bossed the game.

But as good as Jorginho and Kova are at times, in tight games like these, you cannot make mistakes / be sloppy as you will be punished and that and their slightly more clinical finishing was the difference. Shame, but still a lot of positives to take away from that game.

It's not as bad as last season, Sarriball was shocking, I thought we played okay yesterday, City are better at present and managed the second half very well, this time next season will be totally different, City are on the decline we are on the up, football changes very quick, in my opinion though, James and Mount should of started and Tammy should of stayed on, but hindsight is wonderful thing. Still though it's bloody good fun this season.

We had some very good spells in the first half but I could see their first goal coming too. We’d had possession for a good amount of time and I thought to myself I bet they get one counter and score. It’s where we do actually miss a David Luiz or a Hazard, someone with the ability to do something different (although we’d probably be 6-0 down again with Luiz playing :laugh2:).

You maybe right but without going down the science of tactics route, if we are passing Back and forth and then pass back to the keeper who lumps it up field, where 90% of the time we lose possession what is the point of keeping doing this. If after god knows how long it’s not working why not lump it up to Tammy or wide or even row f**king Z, watching yesterday it seemed to create panic and just waiting for a mistake in a very vulnerable area. But hey what the f**k do I know.

Like someone else explained, leave openings, Jorginho is perfect for it because when the fullbacks are marked Jorginho is free in the centre and his vision/touch/turn is fantastic, it really affected City in the first 25 minutes.

The only issue was is that we were way too one dimensional in this game, we had to go more direct today and show City more respect. Fernandinho had it far too easy and that right there was the problem, Fernandinho has struggled this season at the back and we just gave him a comfortable game when we have one of the most physically challenging and inform strikers, what is that all about? Even Stones is very vulnerable to that type of phyisicaility.

One of the problems here is that we didn't treat it like a big game, we treat it like a game against Watford, Burnley, Palace, Etc. City didn't have it easy, but they should've had it a lot harder, particularly their backline.

I'm actually a big fan of playing it out from the back, we score so many goals in the 2nd half because it tires the opposition, we are really good at it. Remember how frustrated Zaha was because he couldn't get on the ball? He had an absolute mare, there's nothing more frustrating than having a total of 30 seconds of the ball in 90 minute match when you're a pro, especially when you're forced to run tracks to try and win it back and instead you look like a headless chicken.

It works against the lesser sides, against City we should've had a mixture and been more direct. Our goal came from a long ball, and whenever we played it to Tammy over the top, which sadly was only a few times something always happened.

City are world class, you take risks against them and they will punish you. I think we just waited for the opportunity to come, which never came. What’s the point in taking risks when you are only one goal down, it makes more sense to be cautious and hope we find an opening.

My memory may be wrong but wasn’t it a long ball and then Sterling scored?

one thing I needed to point out was how strong Abraham was on Kante's goal. Not sure who that was he threw into the net, but it gave me more enjoyment of Kante's goal.

We need to get back in the market and buy some new players that's for sure. Maybe we should just be happy that after everything that happen we can still be in the top 4 discussion, the more I see the stats and highlights for the game the more I see that our lineup can't really match Man City, and I think that's normal to expect, they have been having the same coach for years now and they have been the top spending team in recent history of the league most probably...

They just are a better team, still I think if we had risked more and played with Mount, maybe we could have taken off the pressure for some 30 minutes and a draw. The only way Man City is losing the 3rd straight title in a row is because Liverpool have the refs in their pockets and are grabbing 3 points in the last minutes of most of their games.

We look ok but not better than Man City, which is a good place to be at the moment given the potential of our squad.

I agree both City and Liverpool look stronger. They are not infallible and I notice when Fernandinho is absent City look vulnerable and perhaps Liverpool might be if they lose VVD for a few matches too.

To realistically challenge for honours we need better options in a number of positions for me.

We started with a lot of experience on the pitch yesterday apart from Tammy and Tomori and maybe you could throw Christensen in with those two.  I thought the midfield were solid and mix and match with Barklay / Mount and RLC when he returns we are pretty strong in that department; A couple of giveaways in midfield let City back in the game and ultimately cost us; attack looks pretty decent too when playing well...its the back 4 that still worry me though.  Zouma just looks awkward on the ball and yesterday was no exception, Dave slowing down a bit and Emerson is OK going forward but has frailties defensively; Tomori is OK and is prone to a few errors which no doubt he will grow out we hope.   If the window does open, I'd get shot of Alonso and bring in another LWB and even if Rudi does return this season we definitely need an experienced CB.  Pedro / Giroud and other fringe players need to move on rather than taking a place up on the bench if we are to compete next season with teams at the top of the table.

Agree with all you say, mate. Bit surprised by the negativity here on the match. We need a top CB who Tomori can learn from and a LB. I’d play Reece from the start in most games, but otherwise I’m pretty positive about this team.

Yeah also it was Kova’s longish through ball to Tammy that backfired and they scored.

Great to watch us live, though gutted with the result.

I was in with the City supporters down at front in line the corner flag of the Colin Bell Stand.

When we scored. I forgot and jumped up and celebrated, then suddenly remembered and sat back down very quickly !

Thought we played well and particularly in the first half. Kante was to me, outstanding and I was very impressed by Abrahams.

Their first, the deflected one. gave them hope when I thought they were beginning to get frustrated.

Many positives from this game for me.

Agree with that Kepa had the shot well covered but the deflection killed it... If we had held on for a bit longer I think they would have got increasingly frustrated and there would have been more gaps to go at in the second half.

No great surprise to come on after a defeat and find a stack of posts angrily reacting to us losing 8 0 to Colchester in the first round of the FA Cup.

A more humiliating result I've never seen! We should just torch the Bridge and open up a family bakery.

We played fairly well today away at City. Yes we lost, yes we could have played better and yes Kepa might not be all that but it was far from a terrible performance and we are not a top two team at the moment. Quite a bit off it. Expectations need to be honed in a bit.

We could do with not pissing around in possession in certain areas of the pitch quite as much and we clearly need to strengthen our striker options once the ban is lifted however that's a bed we made for ourselves.

At last the voice of reason.  You sobered up a bit, Lozzer?

We were extremely unlucky to  concede the first, you don't very often see three deflections like that.  The second came about because the away crowd were screaming "The geniuses on the Shed End are saying we should play the long ball forward".. Players heard that, Kovacic heard and so he did.  It didn't come off, ending up in Emerson again making Del Horno look like prime Maldini, despite the man-love that some in here have for his latin smouldering looks and well-developed thighs.

Once again, I played "lets's blame Willian bingo" and won within a minimum number of posts, by a minimum number of the same old  posters.

Generally, I thought we played well, had a bit of bad luck and a bit of luck and no-one could really have complained had it been 4-1 or 0-1 or any other score.  Was one of those games.

¡Hasta la revolución siempre!  ¡Hasta la victoria siempre!
