So those stats there scored only 3 fewer goals than the entire Chelsea team managed in the league this year.

Much fun guaranteed watching our attacks, the amount of assists here is also a great indication that if we get a counter attack or a big chance we will be finishing it.

On paper it looks really well balanced and it should be exciting to watch Ziyech and Pulisic going wide and cutting inside.

taking far too log

I think the reports are spot on. Bayer wont give a discount, Chelsea dont want to pay 90mill up front, clubs are back and forth agreeing performance related incentives to make a deal worth 90mill over time. Bayer need to sell this summer or his value drops big time. Chelsea need to get it done this summer or Real and Bayern get involved. Both sides know these points and feel they hold the cards. Is tricky.

Nothing stopping the club working on other deals at the same time. Marina has Cech and Buck to help, Roman can get personally involved if he wants.

I highly doubt we are so single minded and stupid to be doing nothing but talking to Bayer. I am sure the club are working on other deals, both in and out.

yes im  they are and fully expect to see a flurry in the next couple of weeks

this one seems to be hanging around for ever though. oh well it is what it is

As the sticking appoint appears to be the amount/instalments we pay after the upfront payment I’m not surprised it’s taking a while. Although really how can anyone say what a while is in football terms? No one outside of CFC or BL know.

Payments received going forward will help BL for the future, the longevity of how beneficial this transfer (or any transfer) will be is reliant on this. There’s no point in having it all upfront if they can’t spend it now or they may even need some of the money to help them financially. Then there are beautiful taxes... the higher the amount, the higher the tax.

Honestly I don’t know, it’s all guess work but it’s not as simple as £90m? Sure, here’s my card. Contactless?

money upfront is always better, as you can invest it or use it now if you think that´s worth it
it´s the same reason why chelsea doesnt want to pay it all upfront

So crazy that we have allowed this transfer to become such a snooze fest, the longer it takes the more it looks like we just simply don't have the money to sign him.

If we don't sign him and nobody comes in and hijacks the whole thing, he will stay 1 more season there and then Bayern will come and offer 40m euros and buy him from Leverkusen while trashing them 3:0 in Bundesliga casually...I would still prefer that Bayern signs him over ManU or Liverpool coming in and getting him when we didn't want to pay 90m pounds though but it's still sad if we miss out on this player.

Chelsea are in a much stronger bargaining position than most people are giving the club credit for. The fact is, we are one of the only clubs in the world who do not need Kai Havertz, and our financial status will remain strong into next summer's transfer season while others are decimated by COVID-19. Havertz is a luxury signing that potentially allows us to return to the top table much sooner, but he is not an imperative.

Jadon Sancho was likely our primary target, and should Man U fail to sign him we would likely be in pole position to acquire him in January or next season. I wonder if the Chelsea hierarchy see this as a choice between signing Havertz at 70-80m vs acquiring their top target Sancho for 90m. Sancho is a better fit for the team, allowing Pulisic or Mount to play in the centre, whereas Havertz's biggest improvements have come seeing him play as a second striker. Sancho also represents more of a failsafe should Werner or Abraham fail to meet expectations.

One thing I am sure of is that the Chelsea hierarchy know we are spoilt for choice in this market, and therefore they do not need to make quick decisions. 'Losing' out on Havertz only to sign Sancho later would be like missing out on Iniesta and signing Messi instead.

Bringing in a super-versatile attaking player who just happened to score 18 goals in the Bundesliga and who is 21 is not a smokescreen. I am pretty sure we want to sign him. The more I think about it the more it makes sense.

If we do want Sancho instead and Havertz is a decoy then so be it but I don't buy it at this point.

Im curious why there are a few posts thinkning this wont happen now?

I havent seen a single report saying anything negative about this deal, all seem to report that it is a matter of when not if.

Its a massive signing, it will take time, all the big deals we make recently drag out for 4-6 weeks, unless there is a buyout clause.

Hopefully he is here and ready before the start of the season.

There have been a couple new articles saying the price seems to be a sticking point with no deal yet reached. It is a bit odd that we've been linked for a while now and still no deal... But I feel like that could mainly be down to the Europa League situation.

Either way, it needs to go through soon because we have other, more pressing matters to attend to

None of those reports say that the deal might not happen though.

How long did it take us to complete Sarri/jorginho? or Bakayoko? or Morata?

The season is fast approaching, but its only a week since leverkusens season finished, and and less than 2 since ours has.

I imagine both clubs are very busy figuring out plans, budgets, contracts, loans, etc, so as much as it would be great for them to thrash it out in a day, the back and forth negotiations, in terms of fees, addons, structure, bonuses, will take a long time, especially for a transfer this size, and 3 or 4 different parties involved, with both clubs, and also 1 or 2 agents.

Well compared to Ziyech and Werner this is taking much longer! Those seemed to be done very quickly

With Ziyech certainly and to a lesser extent Werner I would suggest that the initial negotiations started well back in the year we dont know how long they actually took to go from initial inquiry to negotiations to finalising, as they happened mostly out of the transfer window, that this one is highlighted as a big transfer is due to the papers/ media not having anything else to talk about hence it feeling like it is taking  a long time

It's not about it being a decoy. It's letting Leverkusen know we are not wholly invested in Havertz because there are other, similar (arguably better) options. Leverkusen can either sell to us for a fair price, or we can move on and next year they lose Havertz for a pittance.

I wonder what these people would have done during the Gerrard to Chelsea saga!

The club did really well to do those deals. I suspect that happened because they had the Hazard/Morata war chest available and had used the time of the ban wisely in targeting quality players that Frank wanted. I they were ahead of the curve and moved quickly and decisively. Other clubs are now shopping around and the competition is delaying negotiations.

Havertz may not happen. We have quality up front and it may just be the club is now refocusing on a defensive signing or two.
