Timo Werner

Werner and Pulisic are going to be lethal on the break.

In big games we can sit deep, or if we get ahead and teams start commiting men forward, these 2 will be in their element, especially with Havertz and Ziyech playing through balls.

The Germans had a half decent defender playing tonight, might be worth a look at. Rudiger was his name.

I did notice that later on in the first half he was already dropping deep to help move things forward.  Especially when Alonso was passing backward each and every time.  Hope that doesn't become a source of frustration.  It was the same with Torres and Morata, need our strikers to stay in the final 3rd and be a little patient.

Werner actually appears to have improved his game by doing exactly that. Previously, he seemed limited as a player mostly playing off the shoulder of the defence, thereby requiring good service from midfield. This article explains a bit about that: https://www.coachesvoice.com/bundesliga-timo-werner-leipzig-nagelsmann/

Even strikers like Drogba and Lewandowski also made this an important part of their game because it creates mismatches for them when they're able to get into a duel against a hopelessly mismatched fullback or defensive midfielder. For Werner it gives him a bit of extra time/space to get into top speed and break a defence.

I can see potential for false 9 style with Pulisic, Werner and havertz, assuming they are all fit. I don’t see Werner as a reference point style striker, he’s all over the shop

Me either, I see him playing alongside Abraham or Havertz in the long term in a two-striker system. Havertz really exploded in the latter half of the Bundesliga playing as a forward, and I think that's because chasing down long passes allows him to utilise his outrageous speed more frequently than from midfield.

I'd really like to see us moving to a 3-5-2/3-4-3 again.

Not so sure on that. Behave a few very loose passes in the first half that left Spain breaking onto them.

Whoosh

Reminds me of Torres in his prime, just one good pass from the back and he's away. It's a nightmare for defenders against him, and he's not just standing next to the last defender, he actually create space for others by his clever movement.

unfortunately almost gave away a penalty to Ansu Fati later in the half.

In his first outing for us he looked very lively, took his goal well too - had flashbacks to Morata expecting it to get skied over the bar. Hopefully that goal getting him off the mark, albeit in a friendly takes a bit of the pressure off. We're going to be extremely exciting to watch going forward this season. The addition of real quality in the attacking third means I don't think any team will relish playing against us.

Defenders will have to work hard to keep track of Werner. I was watching Switzerland-Germany yesteday and Werner would dart behind that Swiss defence every chance he got. To bad the German team didn't play more direct, also Draxler and Sane are very frustrating to have around you when you are expecting a pass.

This is the signing I’m actually looking forward to most, think this chap is a class act.

really hope he starts the season well.

I posted nearly the same thing awhile ago, i cant remember us signing a young proven goalscorer, who will most probably turn into a prolific striker, i'm looking fwd to him terrorising some defenders this year, and plundering a shed full.

I like your thinking !

I'll go for a brace apiece from Timo and Kai !

Not a hat-trick apiece as we win 6-5? Same old defense made the trip 🙂
