Welcome to Chelsea Ben Chilwell

I may get pelters for this, but I think Chilwell is more important than James.

When they were both flying before they got injured last season, I had Chilwell ahead of James. Chilwell may not be as naturally gifted, but I find him to be way more consistent than James. James plays well in bursts, he can't do it for a full game and he doesn't do it every game, especially against teams that sit deep. When Chilwell is fit, I think he does both of these things. Even when he came off the bench against West Ham, I thought he had more of an impact than any player. He's such a positive player and I think so many of our players need to look at him as an example of how to approach games. Chilwell wants it more than most.

I agree 100%.

I think they are equally as important as each other, when either is missing it impacts on the other due to a need to use them more. With both playing we can spread the play up both sides and drag teams all over the pitch.

Mudryk will definitely get more playing ahead of him than Cucurella, once they get some game time between them and understand when to overlap, play in/out etc.

IMO both are equally important and very good.

James doesn't have Chilwell engine on the other hand James is better on the ball. It is similar to Trent vs Robertson.

Did you really have to compare Chilwell to that c**t Robertson?? Come on ... Not many players are less likeable than this guy.

Always liked Chiwell, even talking to the media brings a breath of fresh air, not the usual 'we will try harder next time' cliche. That's why signing that Cucurella guy is just a brain fart, paying 60M means that guy has to play, and we all needed was a backup to Chiwell

Article from Matt Law today talks quite a lot about players who will leave in the summer amid contract offers and mentions big decisions could be made over Chilwell in the coming months. Surely we would not sell him - this must mean a contract extension?

If Chilwell leaves before Cucurella i might have to change my opinion on Boehly's leadership.

If he is sold at all, I will lose complete faith in the owners.

I have a feeling that most of the players that we had before Potter arrived will be moved on in the summer.

It just feels like they want to take a broad brush to anything remotely connected to either Roman or Tuchel. Chilly probably seen as one of the "old guard" that could see how superior Tuchel was to Potter. Remove all those players, and Potter has a clean slate ...

Even Abramovich wasn't that cut throat. Second season under his ownership, we still had Lampard, Terry, Gudjohnson, Gallas and Cudicini from the previous regime. We need to see the same with Silva, James, Chilwell and Mount. The first two are safe, but there are big question marks on Mount and Chilwell. It would be crazy to let either of them go.

Difference is José wanted them all and he knew what he was doing so would push back same as he did when he told Roman "pay and don't speak" over Drogba.

Potter is clueless and presumably doesn't push back, so we have a clueless manager and a clueless owner both reinforcing each other.

It'll be different with Kante back if he can stay fit. But we've spent 400m and gotten worse. I've got little faith either of them can turn it around.

I don't see Chiwell leaving, he's the number 1 left back in the team without questions. Mount is a different story, got competitions for his spot, and he's been out of sorts for so long, there has to be something more than just fatigue or form. I think Mount would jump on an opportunity to play regularly with a different manager.

I suspect early burnout unfortunately.

He hasn't had a proper break since 2019 and has been playing most weeks, was always likely to catch up in the end.

The most reliable report as of now (from the Athletic) claims Mount wants a shorter length of contract, even going as far as accepting a 5 year deal instead of the proposed 7-8. This isn't about wages, role, or playing time far as we know. Common ground will be met there.

Chilwell is just a dead story. As if we sell our #1 LB  and our top 1-3 chances creators in the team, come on lads.

I thought Mount was leaving because he wanted half a billion £ a week and a new bugatti as a signing bonus? Or are you telling me that was just lies used to taint Mount's image and the brainless lot ran with it?

The issue no one has mentioned in this thread is the rise of Maatsen.

One of Chilwell, Maatsen and Cucurella will need to be sold in the summer.

Cucurella is not a good football player but we can't afford to sell him at a loss, Maatsen is too good to sell and this leaves Chilwell who has barely played in the past 2 seasons.

We have absolutely no idea how Maatsen will do in the premier league. He's playing in the most dominant team the Championship has ever seen and every game is a walk in the park. Lets see how he fares against Salah or Rashford before we pin our hopes on him. I imagine a loan back to Burnley for a year in the Prem is the most likely option.

Edit: Forgot he played against Rashford already in the cup. Lost 2-0, Rashford scored and Maatsen was subbed off. As above, needs more experience.

You're making that sound worse than it was ... he did play the full 90 minutes, and was only subbed off in time added on.

I imagine he'll stay at Burnley on loan next season, so that will be good chance for some PL experience. When he does come back to us, perhaps he can bring Kompany with him LOL
