Erling Haaland

No doubt he'd be incredible but If he smashes our wage structure then that's asking for trouble. He's younger than most of the squad and could be paid twice as much. As a fan it would be great to see him at the club but isn't this just asking for trouble? I guess its the way football is now, Aguero would be worth this much in his Atletico days.

He's got an elite mentality and a dick of an agent. If he has that Barca, Madrid dream then he could be off in a few years when his contract runs down. The Donnarumma situation is just an example of how we need to avoid his agent.

I still think we'd be incredibly competitive with a different number 9 for a fraction of the fee.

Dortmund allegedly keen to keep hold of him but he apparently has a clause in his contract which will allow him to leave for around £70m next summer.

So either Dortmund accept a bid that's significantly higher than the release clause.

Try to get Haaland to negotiate a new contract which would eliminate the buy out clause.

Hold onto him for 12 months and lose him for a lower price but not exactly pennies.

I guess Dortmund have to decide is another season of Haaland worth losing £70m next year when he'd likely leave or are they confident of convincing him to sign a new deal which would likely weaken Haaland's chances should he decide to want to leave.

Think it's going to come down to if Haaland expresses a desire to leave and tries to force through a move this summer or if he's happy to sit tight for another year in hopes that a Barca, Real or Bayern gonin for him if they're his preferred destination.

I wouldn’t mind having a near £250 million windfall (Sancho-Haaland) if I was Dortmunds CEO, could get some proper newbies to challenge for the Bundesliga with that wedge, Chuck in CHO, who is potentially as good as Sancho, and bobs your uncle 😜😜😜

Dortmund saying they want to keep Haaland for a season is just f**king bullsh*t. They want to keep a player of that caliber for sure but they know they have a chance to double the release clause which is ridiculously low. The will let him go for 150m with absolute certainty. The are just playing hardball.

To be honest, while you're most likely right, Dortmund are probably one of the few clubs in the world that can "afford" such loss, as they always have a new talent waiting to be on the spotlight.

They had a poor season in the league, almost missing out on CL, so maybe they're thinking "hey, we're gonna be without Sancho already, isn't it better to secure another year of CL with Haaland (plus the global interest in their games + marketability) end up selling him for the release clause, and eventually we'll recoup that with the sales of Bellingham, Reyna, Moukoko, Knauff..."

I can definitely see them thinking like that and would say is the right approach, footballing wise at least. But I also have no money, so what do I know!

Dortmund's business model is pretty clear to see. Buy young talent, nurture it and make profit. On top if that they manage to be a top side as well. Have give props to them. They are the German Ajax.

If they sell Haaland for 150m and Sancho for 85m they have some budget to buy this young talent in....

I love how blase everyone is at modern footballer wages ... 520K is too high but 320K (a f**king week) is perfectly acceptable ... its all telephone numbers salaries paid but not earned ... world going to hell in a hand cart ... no sportsman should ever earn 10x a senior nurse ANNUAL salary in one bloody week ...  I thought these Covid times might result in a change in our value system but clearly not ... rant over 🙂

So you want to tend towards some form of socialism? 😉

Because there really isn't much of a chance of anything remotely close to this (what you mentioned) happening until we bring in people concerned about a little more than economic 'growth'. People in UK, India, US (both parties) continue to vote to perpetuate and widen this disparity 🙂

Back to Haaland now!

Yep, like Superman with Kryptonite around his neck.

Meant to add if we get him, I think he will score and be a contender for the golden boot.

He looks very hungry and physically immense and reads the game well.

He really is a big unit who bullies defenders at 20, you just wonder how he will be at 25.
He can be immense if he keeps progressing. His finishing reminds me a bit of Van Nistelrooy but has a bit more about him re assisting.

If we signed him I wouldn't even worry about a Madrid or Barca dream, both those teams have a long effort to rebuild and they just don't have the financial power these days to buy up the best talent.

I dunno, the last lanky Norwegian striker to play for Chelsea wasn't too bad.

Sure but Haaland is according to Wikipedia already 1cm taller than mr.Flo so if he keeps growing it might not be the best for his game...

I know it's extremely unlikely but I'm trying to think of any possible ways of this signing failing and I'm pretty sure we won't regret paying 140m...

I hadn't checked Haaland's height before this and I hadn't realised he was so tall.

He's going to be an absolute unit within 4 years.

By the time those viking genes finish his growth, he might be 2m and built like a tank
