Further rumours about UEFA contacting the PL and FA to inform them of their intent to replace United, Arsenal, Chelsea and City with Granada, Prague, Porto and Dortmund, and have Red bull and Atalanta playoff to replace Real Madrid. The latter list of clubs are said to have been informed.

UEFA want the FA to take the next step and have Everton face Sheff United for the right to play Leicester in the FA cup final.

Do you seriously think they would kick 3 of the 4 teams out of the Champion's league Semi-final this year??

And what makes people think we will compete in this new competition?  What happens if we are finishing mid table every season.

we are in it for the next 23 years regardless of position!

Could happen, possibly even as soon as tomorrow. Clubs deserve it, players do not.

Fans don't either.

Here I am new Chelsea fan hoping to see them win some hardware this season and then Chelsea does this and is possibly getting disqualified.

Quite frankly this is sort of how I feel about the Super league thing.

If UEFA & FIFA carry out the threat to ban players from breakaway clubs playing for their country, will younger players want to play for those clubs?

Will the super league become a competition for has been looking for a final payday?

more than likely it'll just mean the most talented don't play for their country - it's a high wage circus

MNF was excellent but I would like to hear opposing views. It is very one sided.

Not a chance in hell you’ll get that from sky sports when the rumours are it would be an in-house tv provider or an American company. They would hate for this to go through which is why you won’t hear anything positive about it on their channels or from their pundits. Everyone involved in this is looking out for their own best interests, the clubs, UEFA, the broadcasters etc. All self serving arseholes.

Unlike some of you, I don't blame the clubs. I don't necessarily see them as the "bad guys".

Club owners and investors want to make their money, and UEFA want a piece of that pie but the clubs said NO. That's why you have these rumblings right now. I am sure these super clubs will work work out some kind of deals with UEFA to keep everyone happy.

UEFA & FIFA aren't the good guys either. They have been f***** the fans for ages now for their own greed.

We are in an age of global economics, that's the sad reality.

Why wouldn't they? They have nothing to lose, the clubs are walking away at the end of the season and all the money involved is already dead one way or another. If the respective Football Associations and leagues show the same bottle and fans continue to make it clear that we are all against this then the idea will be dead.

I’m kind of in agreement and I can see it from the clubs perspective - although I don’t fully agree with the concept.

UEFA and Fifa are as corrupt as they come. Just look at Qatar.

You're totally missing the point. The unanimous opposition isn't about economics or how corrupt the current football governing bodies are, those points are both distractions. This is about 12 self righteous clubs having the arrogance to crown themselves and destroying competative football all for their own pathetic, self-destructive greed.

It’s just beyond f**king frustrating that the club would just screw over the manager and players who’ve worked this hard for a semi final against Madrid and the Cup final with LC. I know they gave up long ago trying to do anything in the fans interest but I’m surprised they’re now going to screw over the players. Aren’t they going to be pissed? Tell Marina and whoever else you’re done playing at Chelsea if this is how you’re going to not only treat the fans but now f**king over our own team.

I wonder what’s in the players contract and if they have to play in the ESL? I know the clubs pay them a fortune so they can dictate where they’ll play but it will be a interesting one.

I thought it was an idle threat but if we’ve left the ECA then it’s really happening. No more CL. I’m guessing that UEFA can reinstate them pretty quickly if they need to?

If they become Autonomous, and Fifa don't recognise them, what is the actual point of this, if it goes ahead, the teams will lose their huge historic fan base, they have more than enough money, they're just chasing stupid $

Me too I figured this was some way to leverage Uefa from watering down the competition with this new format they announced today. I just thought all day yesterday this wouldn’t actually go through but at this point are we supposed to be worried about winning tomorrow? This has just ruined what had become an exciting end to a bad season.

I’d probably be in favour and quite excited about this if they’d made this and everyone still had to qualify. I f**king hate UEFA & FIFA for that matter - two incredibly corrupt organisations and the new format for the CL looks absolutely terrible. This could have been much, much better. My only issue with it really is the fact that teams don’t need to qualify. If they did, I’d support it.

Said it better than I ever could have, I totally agree especially after the new CL version announced today.

The only positive out of all this ESL drama is the banter targeted at Spurs and Arsenal.

Neville was going in hard on MNF and social media is literally tearing all 6 but Arsenal and Spurs In particular apart.

I'm annoyed at Sky's faux outrage given that it was threats of the top clubs in England forming a super league that led to the formation of the premier league in the first place. They're just annoyed that they're now on the wrong side and the top clubs may be doing to them what they did to the football league before.

I'm finding it hard to believe that Real Madrid the most famous club in the history of the European Cup have been complicit in destroying Europe's premier competition. They were genuine champions of Europe 13 times now they have a chance of winning a mini-league of rich clubs and hangers-on. Shameful.

Both Spanish clubs were in huge financial turmoil and were in desperate need of a lifeline.
