It would be the best thing to do because make no mistake other teams like Bayern, Real, Barcelona, Juventus will pay the buyout clause once they see that they need him.

Also if we sign him now, Marina can spend the whole next summer thinking just about which DM she should cut the price off and get him to the Bridge. We wouldn't need any other activity.

Actually we might need to find replacements for Rudiger and Silva who i think will be going back to Brazil after the world cup

Well we messed this one up royally. Hopefully it does not pi$$ off TT too much or the merry-go-round will begin again.

I don't think it will. We got him his striker and midfielder unfortunately we couldn't get his defender but Chalobah can be the replacement for Zouma and if we have injuries we can buy Kounde in the January window

Would be interesting to see why Rudiger wouldn't want to extend his contract...

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It will be his last major contract since he is 28 years old and will want the MAXIMUM

Definitely can't fault someone for wanting to maximize their value while the iron is hot

Real Madrid are the new Juventus of the transfer market - they will make an offer for every single top quality freebie in Europe next summer. Hope he stay though.

Prices of players has gone crazy in recent years. I doubt Tuchel can be mad considering the squad he's currently got. If he can't challenge with that squad, then I don't know what to say. At the end of the day it's full to the brim with top class talent. Our defenders really have improved this season, so I guess It's not a big loss at all.

If he is as good as some say he is, then we need to hope we can go and get him at the next available opportunity. The problem now is that if he continues to show how good he is, then other clubs will become much more interested and we will have to fight for him........which could mean we have to pay their current asking price anyway 😑

This should have been a straight forward signing really, I don't know why we need to make sure we sell a player first before we try and bring another one in. The Zouma deal shouldn't have held us up, he was always going to be sold, so we should have just pushed through with it and matched Sevilla's asking price for Kounde before their deadline.

Right haha Completely forgot they have just turned that PC game Football Manager into the real life version. The amount of quality they have signed on a free is simply unbelievable

Is it true that Sevilla are demanding his full release clause, meaning 68m pounds? That's funny, almost sounds like they did a full 180 on Marina there in the last second.

Also From what I read, Kounde is very much willing to come to the Bridge and play for us.

It was unfortunate that Sevilla did not understand that what was at stake is more than money. It was a matter of "FACE". By coming out to expose all the back and forth between Sevilla and Chelsea , Monchi had removed any hope of negotiation and truncated all Hope of an agreement been reached without a loss of face to Chelsea or Sevilla. By insisting that Kounde would not be sold except the buy out clause is paid in full, Sevilla would have lost face had they accepted anything less than the full payment and Chelsea would have lost face by been seen to coerced into the deal. If Monchi had kept his big mouth shut, we could probably have increased out offer with structured payments, add ons and performance related clauses that would have satisfied Sevilla but we could no longer do that with loss of face after Monchi had blabbed.  Sadly no one came out of this smelling Roses, Chelsea bungled it by getting serious too late for Sevilla to manoeuvre in th market, Sevilla talked out all negotiation options leaving Chelsea with no room to manoeuvre with losing their reputation and Kounde gor to see Sevilla for the 2nd time in two years destroy his chances of winning trophies because of the rigidity of his club. Wont be surprised if he hands in a transfer request next summer. While I am sad we didn't get Kounde, I understood why we didn't pay his buy out clause. ...... Sometimes, it's a matter "FACE"

At first glance there are issues on both sides. CFC did want to sell Zouma and that took longer than expected. Equally I feel Sevilla also knocked back Man City and Chelsea and it seems to me that Kounde's value, according to two different buyers, hasn't increased from the Man C offer  and his contract now has one year less left. The player will probably not have his heart in it this season quite so much but who knows and maybe that doesn't matter anyway.

Fundamentally its not about face but about value. It may be that Real Madrid or Barcelona will come in with a big offer. When you look at what Real offer for Mbappe when they can get him next year for free you can never tell. Luuk De Jong went from Sevilla to Barcelona and that deal was completed very quickly.

So for me its not really about face or ability to find a replacement but just a simple disagreement between buyer and seller about value.

Happy with our window as is but if we were able to get this one done it would have put us right into a 9/10 window.  I think we'll be fine at CB, but of course it's always nice to add and improve on what you've got.  I do think we'll be in for him in January and if not definitely at the end of the season.

I still think he's a bit short for a centre back LOL.

Hopefully he still wants to come to Chelsea when his contract has run down, and his value has dropped. The fact that no club has bought him for two years should be telling Sevilla that the price they think he is worth is way too high. That Monchi sounds like he is cut from the same poor cloth as Perez ...

Great decision not to be bullied into paying more for Kounde. The player is unsettled now and unsettled players never stay for long. It seems we have learned from the debacle of 2017 and not panic buy. I'm sure we will get him next summer..

If he improves by next summer, I think Marina will go in for a 70m bid and negotiate a better deal. Barca is skint, PSG is stacked to the brim, Utd is stacked too, Real will definitely go all out for Mbappe and Haaland so we don't have to worry if the big guns go in for him.

City might be one of the few clubs that can afford him
