Jules Kounde

Right now I'm thinking I'd prefer to take a leap of faith with Chalobah, Ampadu and Colwill, who all at least WANT to play for us.

The way it is going, there'll be no choice

Update from Ben Jacobs:

My understanding on Jules Kounde is there has been an unexpected twist. Barcelona have U-turned from Friday morning but are yet to table an official bid. Chelsea felt race was won yesterday. They still have a full agreement with Sevilla. Barca don't just yet.

Sevilla's position has always been Barca must formally bid fast & match Chelsea's offer. Barcelona believe they can bid €40-45m and get closer (not match) to Chelsea's overall fee with add ons. Remains to be seen whether Sevilla accept. Again, no formal offer has yet been made.

Barcelona had given up hope but Xavi pushed hard for a bid. Barca also always felt Kounde U-turning and travelling to Portugal to train with Sevilla bought them some time. As previously reported, this was not what Chelsea wanted.

Situation right now, Chelsea have a deal with Sevilla awaiting only formalities & formal sign off. They've agreed preferential personal terms with Kounde. (Reminder, players can & do agree terms with multiple clubs). #CFC can do no more. Yesterday they felt transfer was imminent.

Barcelona have finally responded, though, even if Sevilla deny active negotiations. The clubs have been in contact. Obviously if Barca now agree a fee, it will all then come down to player choice. That's where Barca feel they have advantage although Kounde is open to both moves.

The pursuit of Kounde has really been an incredible saga. With Raphinha, Barcelona made their hand pretty hand clear. Challenge was simply about agreeing terms with Leeds. But with Kounde, it's a whole new level of games, smokescreens and late U-turns.

Credit to @gerardromero for being first to report Barca's 'hijack'. He's right that things at Barca changed in past few hours. But no Barca deal with Sevilla is done just yet. I am sure you're all sick of hearing it this... but a big 24 hours ahead. That's the reality as of now.

I’d struggle to understand why Sevilla would  accept a lower fee with add on’s. Would not make sense.

Because its Spain and the whole of la liga is bent.

La liga cannot survive without Barcelona.  Therefore Sevilla cannot survive without La Liga. Bent.

To add to the drama the report about us not sending contracts over to Sevilla is because we want assurances both Sevilla and especially Kounde will accept them as we don't want a repeat of Raphinha, where both Leeds and Raph had the contracts and he snubbed us to go to Barca.

A face saving exercise then.

Oh good. I thought everybody was looking for their fax machine.

I knew this was going to happen, I was seeing a bunch of sh*t stirring up last night before going to bed.

We have been made to look like fools during this transfer window and I'm sick of it. Just tell Sevilla and Kounde straight, accept what we have offered by the end of the night or f**k off to that corrupt club.

If it were up to me, Barcelona would be on my blacklist at this point. I don't care how much they offer for Azpi and Alonso, there is no chance they get sold to them.

Barcas biggest problem will be Monchi, he does not settle on deals he demands a top amount. So he will expect Barca to match our offer, or be so close to it the difference is tiny.

If they do that then Kounde goes to Barca, Monchi won't play games it does not matter to him if Kounde prefers Barca. If Barca offer 45mill euros and we offer 55mill he would rather keep Kounde than sell him for less as they are not under pressure to sell after the deal they made with Villa for their other defender.

Well if I guess there are a few things that Todd has found out with his first transfer window.

- Try to make trades for players doesn't work in Europe

- There are no draft picks, just the Academy and other teams will gladly take them on loan, for free, with you picking, yes you picking up the tab

- Being left a whole ton of dross on big wages by your predecessor is going to cost you; now you have to more or less give them away for free and still pay their wages or at least a big % even if other clubs take them.

- Cash is king - don't f**k around trying to nickel and dime the selling team - it takes too long and you'll get eaten alive by the big boys

- When in the sandbox with the likes of Real Madrid, Barca and any of the top Spanish or Italian teams you play dirty like they do - No Mr Nice guy buying lunch.

- If you got a player(s) you targeted that the club truly want and have to have - go after them early and pay the asking fee and get the deal done or you will be made to look like a rookie and every other club you deal with thereafter will take advantage.

- There are only a small number of world class or elite players in the world, if don't want sloppy seconds or thirds - pay up big time to stop the other sharks circling. If you don't want to pay the freight then expect to see a mid-table finish and an empty cabinet from this point forward.

Exactly. I think for today our focus will be on the game against Arsenal. But if this isn't sorted out by tomorrow hopefully we have already moved on to other options.

Lmao.

We're not focusing on a pre season friendly above fixing a key problem in our squad ahead of the season.

The friendlies are a sideshow and to help get the group back up to speed but the transfer business is the priority.  Todd and everyone aside from the players focus will be on whatever deals we're working on.

If you used these at work when they first were introduced, then you are older than I thought 🤣

Tbh our transfer strategy with the new team so far has been laughable.

Big clubs get their targets in, we lose out if another is involved despite them being broke and trying to scrape together the cash.

We better learn these lessons fast because clubs like Arsenal and Spurs are having great Windows.

I posted that above, keep up man 😉

Sevilla and Barca now in talks. Monchi clearly stating the agreement they have with us in principal and he has no interest in Memphis or any other Barca swaps nor giving them a discount.

Simply put he has told them to pay up or shut up.

Barcelona's way of acting gets more strange every day. The Catalans know perfectly well that they have to talk to Sevilla if they want Jules Koundé, as well as have the money to pay upfront - not instalments, because almost no one trusts Barcelona right now.
