Also how does Azpi come on for CHO at RWB and look 10 times better than Callum both offensively and defensively. It must be a tactical thing not that i am trying to insult Callums intelligence. Chalobah looked so much better with Azpi on his right side. Koundes transfer now makes sense to me.

Azpi played his part really well and we looked better when he came on. 

If you look at how we lost control when Kante and Werner went off my comment would be that we missed Werner almost as/just as much as Kante Werner stretches the defence despite average first touch and helps a lot with our possession game.

Mount is a good player but he does a different job to werner. I think we need both.

Havertz got his assist and that wasn't the only good cross he put in. Will learn from missing his pen and it didn't cost.

Bringing Azpi on was such a good move for the team and I feel sorry for Tammy but at least he knows where he stands and so can make a decision.

Very solid team, no fluke what they achieved in the Europa last season. Had they won on penalty lottery, they deserved it too. Emery is a good manager, Arsenal's lose.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but it's the only penalty he has ever missed in his professional career.

Nice to start the season properly by lifting this one, 23 years and 3 failed attempts since the last time.

I thought Villareal were a good opponent. Well drilled, tactically sound, hard working a well coached. Aside from the blip at Arsenal, where no one delivers to be fair, their gaffa has shown himself to be a really good coach.

Their keeper was annoyingly good. 

We were rusty in most areas, but up until Ziyech went off we looked a class above.

None of our defenders were perfect however Chalobah did not look out of place one bit, really good display.

Kante and Jorgi were a cut above Kovacic for me, as was Alonso above CHO, the latter really needs to make a big step forward soon.

Werner and Mount unlucky to be denied by the class of their keeper. Pulisic really copied his CL final miss with another sitter off target.

Palace will be a real hard slog now, winning this trophy is worth it though.

i think the match in the second half showed us the good and bad of our current midfield.. They continuously attacked our right side - with the offensive minded CHO, Young Chalobah and a sluggish Jorginho..  they easily  bypassed the trio and that is where the goal really came from. the pressure made us make bad decisions.

On the other hand when Azpi came in and Jorginho settled in we were able to really control the game and push them back. That is the current predicament. 

@Jangz keep in mind that I'm not really sure if that's really Tino though, it just would make better sense. Thiago always look so young that it can deceive.

On the game, for one I'm actually happy this went to overtime + penalties as it was a little bit of extra pre-season work for those who came later (Jorgi, Mount) plus it may keep us on our toes and prevent us from being overconfident thinking everything's swell. 

I felt Rudiger wasn't really at his best, had a major blip for a big Villarreal chance in the 1st when he got dragged by their striker all the way to the centre-right leaving a a huge gap, and thought he was at fault for their goal because he pressed hard and then didn't follow Moreno.

Anyway, 1st true game of the season, how I've missed it! Come on, Chelsea!!

 Chalobah defo MOTM for me. Kovacic played the whole game and apart from the error he made early stages, thought he had a decent game too. That recovery challenge he made in extra time, on empty fuel was brilliant too. Another CM is defo needed though and ideally one with a bit of a physical presence and guile also. Kante will have his injury issues and will need careful management. That leaves Jorginho and Kovacic as the only established CM. Should defo target another one, as we are competing on many fronts once again.

So we are exactly the same team as last season. Who can predict this? 

Without Kante we have 0 presence in midfield. So for all people who think we will move to back 4 next season, you can just forget about it. 

Offensively, it is the same as last season.

Hmm. Kante and Kovacic couldn't rhythm the pace of the game when we needed. I feel we needed a couple of minutes of possession but we tried to break fast. We then time and a time again lost the ball and eventually they scored. Jorginho's best asset is he knows how to pace the game when you need to just take control. 

Kovacic in particular was awful in that period of the game. Kane wasn't much better in that sense. You need to give Villareal credit as well. They really pressed us and wanted the goal. Fair play to them and Good Ebening. He is a great coach. 

Anyway great win. Best players for me Kepa, Chalobah, Rudiger and Alonso.

Very sad to see Ziyech get injured. He can't catch a break. In terms of creating goals it we just lost our main asset. 

Havertz's penalty was awful but he shouldn't get too down. I would love to see him use more power in all parts of his game.

Good play from Tuchel to put Kepa in. Mendy is also showing signs of weakness. Passing mistakes and lapses of concentration. Not talking about his slip. 

Super Cup is a cup but a bit of a fabricated showpiece. It is hard to get too excited over it. Anyway loved to see us take it.
