I mean the sheer delight Just would feel if they both left this summer would be like, To quote from Drop the Dead donkey here, "there will be an eruption that will make Krakatoa sound like an earwig's fart"

July 24, 20223 yr Not good enough to be anything but a versatile rotation player at best. Right now he's probably third choice CB and that's scary and just highlight the scary situation we are in.
July 26, 20223 yr I always thought he was very average. Alot of people got excited by his early form purple patch.
July 26, 20223 yr I don't see the big difference between him and Sarr. If the frenchman was from our academy and Trev was a foreign guy on 120k a week our fans' opinon on them would be reversed. Tell me, what is Trev really good at apart from scoring goals? Yes he's reasonably quick and strong, but he's not a great header of the ball, doesn't have great positioning, always has a mistake in him playing out of the back and is prone to being rash in duels. To me he's a light version of Tomori, who I also don't think is an amazing defender, but at least he had some upside. With Chalobah, I can't ever see him getting beyond being an ok rotational option. Shouldn't be more than 5th option (at most) at CB. Edited July 26, 20223 yr by True Blue23

August 18, 20223 yr Apparently could be going out on loan. Really confused about what we are doing this summer, seems there is no long term plan. We are just making it up as we go. He had a good 1st season last year and featured in a few big games. Somehow he hasn’t played a min this season and seems to be behind Azpi in the pecking order.

I think you answered your own question. It appears to me Tuchel wants Fofana for first choice, to keep Azpi for a year then allow him to leave and send Trev on loan to see if he can iron out his mistakes. That is a decent plan
August 19, 20223 yr Even if we get Fofana we need Trev to stay! If he leaves we'd only have 4 CB's, one of which would be Azpi, who'll cover as a WB from time to time and one is 38 year old Silva, who'll need a rest from time to time. Way to few for a team playing with a back three. Unless we plan to keep Ampadu, but he hasn't even been given a squad number.... Trev would get a similar amount of chances as last season anyways. We would have just replaced Rüdiger and Christensen with Koulibaly and Fofana. Edited August 19, 20223 yr by True Blue23

IMO Trev is better than Azpi, Ampadu and probably Cucu in that back 3 but i'd rather him play 40 games this season than just a handful.

You can’t keep relying on other teams to develop players for you. We saw that last season with Gilmour. This will either be the wrong loan that throws off his development, or he has a good loan & demands a move away because he has enjoyed regular game time. The £80m we are paying for Fofana is based on “potential”, there are no guarantees he won’t turn to sh*t. What happens if he drops a few blunders? Do you bin him & loan him out? Or is Tuchel going to be patient because he has paid big money for him? I reckon the latter will be the case. The 14 key player rule still stands- 1st 11, a defender, a midfielder, & a forward. Everyone else just fills when required. Personally feel he is a playing a dangerous game though if 2 of his CBs in a back 3 is a 31yr old & a 35yr old.
August 19, 20223 yr It's probably just silly season stuff, be mad to let him go. We have 3 Central defenders over 31 and not much else, playing James out of position is suffocating our attack.

If he has a good one though he comes back and fights for his place, if he wants to move down a step to be a regular starter at a smaller team that says a lot about him to me. TBF Fofana is already one of the top CB's in the league, commands that entire Leicester defence by himself and is the standout player every time. The valuation is based on more than just potential. Remember we can make 5 subs now, don't think that rule applies so heavily.
August 19, 20223 yr How much better is Fofana actually? 25% better? Is that worth 70m when Chalobah has the potential to improve?

IMO Trev is better than Azpi, Ampadu and probably Cucu in that back 3 but i'd rather him play 40 games this season than just a handful. Minus Ampadu it's the same as last season. And Trev got plenty of playing time last season. Koulibaly replaces Rüdiger, Fofana replaces Christensen and Cucurella replaces Sarr as the emergency option (I don't think he'll play at CB a lot as having him and Silva in a back 3 together would make us quite vulnerable aerially - Silva and Azpi is already pushing it). There's plenty of games to go around and Trev should be comfortably ahead of Ampadu as the latter didn't even get a squad number. Trev got 31 games last season and isn't it better for him to get 31 games at a high level, with the chance to cement himself as a mainstay if he performs well enough, than play 40 games for a midtable PL side? Also Trev getting game time shouldn't be our main priority. We need him. If Silva needs a rest and Koulibaly is out, who do we field? Fofana in the middle and Azpi and Cucurella either side of him, with only Ampadu as back up? Looking pretty thin already. Now imagine two CB's being injured... In times of Covid and with our schedule you need a good squad. This season more so than ever with the WC in winter. Edited August 19, 20223 yr by True Blue23
August 19, 20223 yr This would be ridiculously short sighted, we play with 3 at the back, we need cover for those 3 and Trev is as good a squad player as we are likely to have.
August 19, 20223 yr I think he is brilliant - still has a mistake in him but what a great group of mentors at the club to sort that out. Hope he stays
