Trevoh Chalobah

Featured Replies

I mean I think we all can see Trev has things he needs to work on and learn from, if he does he can become a top player, and he also has two great teachers in Silva and Koulibaly.

If he does not learn then he will be a back up at best, and we need good back ups, or he will look elsewhere. Simple. He has a lot of good physical tools but needs to learn when to use them and to get a better picture of what is going on around him. He also is not Koulibaly or Silva and have their years of experience.

Let's also be honest and acknowledge several posters have their own Pro and Against agendas on certain players, where they cover that players mistakes by ignoring them or blaming others if they are Pro them or nitpicking every little thing possible if they are against them.

For example had Trev still be on our right side when Barnes scored playing Dave's role some would have said he lacked tactical discipline by being pulled out of position and leaving us exposed. Had he been in Silvas role some would have said he was not paying attention and did not cover Dave being out of place quickly enough etc.

Rather Trev so right decision made personally.

Would have kept both, and I think fans do underestimate Ampadu. Ampadu can also play multiple positions.

Not sure why the manager hasn’t kept both to be honest; Thiago can’t handle 2 games a week, and is a year older, I am also not certain Koulibaly can handle a CL midweek, and play 90mins on the weekend. I know Sarr wasn’t the majority’s cup of tea but he played a part last season, which Ampadu could have played this season.

He's handy back-up and I know he's only young, but he looks like he has at least one mistake in him every game, so I think a loan move to try and iron those mistakes out of his game would be for the best - especially with Fofana coming in.

I have never rated Ampadu. He's aggressive, but that is all he has going for him. He is reckless and makes far too many defensive errors to be a top cb. Koulibaly, Silva, Azpilicueta, Fofana and Chalobah is more than enough, especially when Cucurella and James can fill in at CB if we ever get desperate.

Can we get a little respect for this man? He has fierce critics on here, yet he comes in from the cold again, is solid and helps us beat Milan and then plays both the central CB and right CB today.

Always 100% commitment, never Complains, a leader.

Well done big Trev.

Well done big Trev.

He was immense. Very composed on the ball. Done well in one on one situations. Brilliant squad player to have.

Trev's always been good when he's played. He usually makes one or two mistakes in a game but if well covered that is okay. He is nowhere near Silva levels but who is...

We are lucky to have such a good young academy product.

Good squad player at this rate. If he wants to be more, he has to stop making mistakes in basically every game he plays.

Way too harsh. For one he is only 23. Everyone makes mistakes, even Thiago has been culpable a few times this season. In his 34 appearances for the club we have only lost 1 game. Surely he can’t be that bad.

Still find it wild Tuchel wasn’t fussed if he left, and you bet if he had continued as manager Chalobah would have demanded a move in Jan. He would have kept on playing Azpi as the RCB in Fofana’s absence. Personally rate him, and we tend to crap on our own (I am not faultless in that respect). The only reason he hasn’t  had way more opportunities is because he is a “free” Youth product.

Haven't noticed any real difference in a home-grown Chalobah and a 70m Fofana.

So far. Chelsea is a new place for Fofana. He is one of the most coveted young players in Europe. Give him time.

he is a really good player and he has a good attitude

always ready to step up and play

to get a player like him in the transfer market today you would have to shell out around 40 million pounds & he is English and homegrown club

really happy to have him in the squad, not sure if he's better than Fofana but he's not really a downgrade either (i just think Fofana's ceiling is higher)

I think it was more of a compliment to Trev than a dig at Fofana.

I didn't say he was bad. I said I think he's a good squad player. However I don't think at this point in time he's good enough to be more than a squad player in a team that wants to challenge for the highest honours consistently, because I think he has too many mistakes in him. So if he wants to establish himself as a starter, he has to improve. Don't you agree?

Luckily he's still young, so he might get to the level required. He has already improved compared to last season, despite limited game time, maybe he can take it even further.

@Zeta I agree that Fofana and Trev have pretty much been at the same level. Koulibaly hasn't been much better either. Neither of them have been nearly as good as Silva or Rüdiger or even Christensen under Tuchel before the contract dispute, which is what we're going to need in the long run. Especially when Silva eventually retires. So let's hope at least one or two of them step up. It's looking good recently under Potter though, so I'm optimistic. Koulibaly looks more stable now, and Trev's allround game is better than last season, he just has to cut out the mistakes now. Same goes for Fofana. His allround game was looking decent before his injury, but he just made too many mistakes.

I'd ensure Trev has a long term contract - could be a versatile player for Chelsea for years to come.  Seems happy with his squad role, although he continues to progress and will come a time he will want more starting time.

Top player and attitude to go with it.

I could agree with saying Silva and Rudiger are a step above, but Christensen? Really? He had more mistakes and more costly (Barsa at home) than Chalobah, not to mention the stomach bugs he was getting before a few games. At least Trevor is professional and ready to step in whenever the coach calls him.

Christensen was/is pretty frail, both physically and mentally, which led to him missing many games, and not performing too well when his confidence was down. But he is a very talented defender, when he's on. The level he showed under Conte for half a season, until said Barca game, and ever since Tuchel came in until the climax of the contract dispute around novembre 2021 if my memory serves me right, was very high. A level above what Chalobah has shown so far.

When he wasn't there mentally though, for confidence reasons or because of stuff outside the pitch, he was pretty bad, I'll give you that. He was bad under Conte ever since that Barca game, pretty average under Sarri and pretty bad under Lamps (as were all our CB's in the 2019/20 season). Also he was pretty injury prone, so I get some of the stick he gets amongst supporters. But when everything was clicking for him, he was a top defender. And it wasn't just for single games, every professional footballer can peak in single games, no, he showed his class over periods of many months.
