Trevoh Chalobah

So our price for Trev is said to be 25mill. Pur preferred replacement is Marc Guehi who is valued at 50mill, though we do have a sell on %.

Is that even an upgrade?

The bigger issue is that we are spending money to fix an alleged problem? There is some bizarre narrative that Chalobah is some mediocre player when in reality, he is a player that is always fit, has proven to be a great squad option without kicking up a fuss, has proven himself in 3 pretty big finals (Villarreal & Liverpool x 2), and can play across the entire back 4. Why is there some desperate need to get another CB, or to upgrade on Chalobah?

Also, how can anyone see these 4 CBs and pretend there isn't going to be an issue for playing time next season? Guehi/Fofana/Badiashile/Colwill. There's an argument to be held if Guehi is even that much better than Chalobah, considering the latter has proven himself to be a great squad option at a big club.

As someone who would like to keep Chalobah as a squad player but yes, Guehi would absolutely be an upgrade if it's him or Trevoh to start every week. Chalobah for £25m pure profit and Guehi back for around £40m (when you minus the sell on clause) would be good business.

Better in the air (which is something that can't be sniffed it given our general lack of height in the team which includes the keeper) and proven to work in a back four which Chalobah looks shaky playing.

Inter is a good fit for Trevoh aswell in that regard, given Darmian played there in the UCL final I'd imagine the RCB spot in their back three is firmly up for grabs.

Another thing to note with Guehi is he also has leadership qualities which if we're not going to sign more experienced players then he's as good as many if any under 25 we can sign for that side of things.

"Better in the air" is a feeble metric comparison when Guehi is also terrible in the air.

Has Guehi ever proven himself in a progressive set up? Also, if we have 4 top CBs at the club, wouldn't it present an issue next season for playing time?

I could swear he's always been good in the air when I've watched him but fair enough.

I would say Palace were somewhat progressive under Vieira atleast at the first season.

Thought it was scrappy counter attacking football.

I'm yet to see you post a single good opinion on this forum.

I am sorry you feel this way. Opinions are not facts.  This is what i believe , you are free to counter it and have you own opinion .

I rate Trev highly, think he has a lot of upside. I personally don't think Marc is a big improvement, and if we are moving on Trev with Fofana out we need a big improvement. Someone to dominate the box on crosses and set plays.

don't get this one at all, every squad needs players like Trev, somehow they must be after that pure profit margin selling him and then get Guehi in on a multiple year contract, not for FFP purposes but amortization ?  In other words its not about football its about accountancy

I get that feeling sometimes that their activities in the market especially the wholesome gutting of the squad and replacing with long term potential on long term contracts is deliberate and financially driven rather than footballing performance.

I understand the squad was bloated and the sales have been necessary but perhaps it was all a deliberate strategy last season. It's not like they can't add and didn't know the squad was getting too large but I guess after buying 390 something players it's easier to make an argument for shifting every older player than doing it on a graduated scale which won't deliver the kind of financial benefit they want in one fell swoop as they have done now.

Played in midfield for Lorient a few years ago and his underlying Opta stats were pretty decent. Guardiola would turn him into one of the best DMs around.

Reminds you of an Ake. Very dependable and low maintenance.

Would be mad to sell for 25M. Off camera, Chalobah led the back line tonight, constantly commanding the line to push or drop. He is steady, dependable, and rising to the challenge right now. Also versatile if we need a RB.

I do not know why we would sell him at this time. He has earned his place in this squad.

No way Guardiola would play somebody with Trev's ability on the ball in midfield. It's something Mourinho might do...

To be fair José once played Kurt Zouma as a defensive midfielder in a cup final (against Tottenham no less).

Selling him to replace him with Guehi would be one of the weirdest decisions we've made under the new ownership.

Selling him would make zero sense in every way other than a daft unneeded profit

It's a complete waste of time. He's a very good squad option and we would be just replacing him with another squad option. This is just selling and signing players for the sake of it.
