May 19, 20233 yr It's nonsensical planning from the powers that be (assuming it's true). No thought at all for the long-term. Our four centre-backs in the medium-to-long term should be Fofana, Badiashile, Colwill and Chalobah. It's so incredibly obvious that even our idiotic leadership should be able to stumble upon it. It seems like the most simple piece of squad planning we've had since Reece James emerged when we had an ageing-but-still-useful Azpilicueta and Zappacosta as our right-back options.
May 19, 20233 yr All comes down to value as a squad player and as an asset to balance against ffp. Is he good enough to be a long term starter for us? Probably not. And with Baddy, Wes and Colwill, alongside cucu who can also slot in, there is an argument that he is 5th choice - 6th or 7th when throwing K2 and silva into the mix So - then we come into our ffp situation - and the ability to cash in, on an asset that is all profit, and an asset that is not in our best 11 or possible best 22. A sale in that case becomes an attractive proposition. Personally I would like Trev to stay as a squad player - but it does probably make more sense to sell.

Trev is head and shoulders above Cucurella and Koulibaly. Silva, although incredible, is ageing. Trev and Fofana should be sharing the responsibility at RCB with Levi and Badiashile LCb and Silva sprinkled in for experience.

It's much deeper than that. We are in a general sense overlooking everyone in the academy in favour of picking up the so called greatest talents from abroad. Santos & Casadei was brought in and basically shut down any pathway Charlie Webster had to the first team for example. There there's Hutchinson, Moreira, Paez, Fofana etc who's basically been brought in and who's going to block the pathway of some incredibly talented english lads in the academy.

Is Webster even rated that highly? Giving me Charlie Colkett vibes. Cobham has been stale these past few years bar the exception of 1 or 2 genuine talents. It'll always come in cycles and it was evident it needed an injection of quality considering the PL2 team almost got relegated last season. Curious to know which English players you'd consider have a genuine chance of finding a pathway to the first team that are better than the 16-20 year olds we purchased the past year.

For example Tudor Mendel-Idowu who's been incredibly impressive for the juniors this year. Looks set to leave on a free because he doesn't seem a pathway to the first team. Soonsup-Bell has left, Simons the same and many others.

Not sure if those players are better than the ones we brought in, and bar the exception of Rice and Musiala the club typically makes the right decision on which players to move on. The latter I wouldn't even consider as the club did a lot to try and get him to stay. It does however seem like there is no plan and the club is just trying to stockpile talent.

Mendel-Idowu looks an incredible talent, the fact we spent money bringing Omari in and giving him his debut first when we had him was a joke.
May 19, 20233 yr Will come down to how Pochettino rates him I guess, though has others have stated in Colwill/Badiashile and Wes Fofana/Chalobah we should be sorted in a back 4 for years and years. I don't expect sensible things from these owners though.

According to pretty much every reliable reporter Colwill is getting his first team shot next season despite us spending on a player with his attributes in January. Lewis Hall has got more chances in the first team than all the so called new toys. If they're good enough they'll get their shot.
May 20, 20233 yr This is what John Terry won in his Chelsea career : If we'd sold him at the same age as Chalobah is now, this is what he would have won in his Chelsea career : I'm not saying Trev is as good as JT was at 23, or even has that kind of career ceiling, but 23 is a baby when it comes to a central defender. Personally I'd keep him and see how he develops.
June 1, 20233 yr Inter trying to sign Trev for £25m https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-transfer-news-chalobah-inter-milan-b1085059.html
June 1, 20233 yr We should be keeping him here. He's a very good squad player and has much more to offer than somebody like Koulibaly.
June 1, 20233 yr That's a good offer for a fairly limited player. Hopefully we can raise around 150M from the sales of Mount, Chalobah, Gallagher, Loftus Cheek and Hudson Odoi.
June 1, 20233 yr Why are so many people desperate to see us sell very useful players, we still need a squad at the end of all this, we still really need players like Chalobah and we would be mad to sell him.

Good squad ‘filler’ players is how you manage to keep your main team fresh. Players like Chalobah are happy to be in the squad, they step in when required causing little fuss.

Thing is, people I know who played with JT knew straightaway that he was a top player and when he was around the squad they also encouraged him to be a future captain.

I dont think there's a want for him to be sold it's more the situation we find ourselves in. This was always going to happen after spending so much money and performing miserably. Nobody is going to spend 25m on the likes of Koulibaly and Lukaku. This should be well known by now, the only players who have value are our younger players on low wages and sadly its open season on them. I'd be more worried if we sold Conor at this rate because of Mount and Kova potentially leaving. Edited June 1, 20233 yr by Sheva

June 1, 20233 yr So apparently Inter have money to offer for Trev but have nothing for Lukaku? Funny. Now let's remember what they and Romelu did to us, and continue to do to us, and use that here. I don't want Trev to go, he is one of my current favorite players we have. However if he has decided he wants to go, has seen what Tomori has done and feels he can do the same, then I feel we should be getting 35mill out of Inter for him. Imo Trev is a better player than Tomori and more versatile.
June 1, 20233 yr Trevoh Chalobah wants to stay and fight for his Chelsea place under incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino despite interest from Inter Milan in signing him this summer. #CFC (@liam_twomey & @TheAthleticFC) I quite like Trev and think he is a solid player. He’s shown enough. Plus he recently signed a new deal.

June 1, 20233 yr Author Yeah we definitely shouldn’t sell him. I believe Pochettino can turn him from a squad player to a starter. He’s a little raw but I see a lot of quality. If we sold him for 25m, we’d end up spending double that to replace him, what’s the point?
