One game conor looked good and the other not so much. It is not a surprise though. Conor will need time to adapt to Tuchel style and his new role. He excelled last year for palace playing as 10 or dynamic midfielder, for us he will play mostly as pivot, hence he need to tone down his dynamism (offensively) and his aggressiveness in his passing. 

Also keep him the fek away from pens🤣

That penalty is proper funny. Glad he did it in a pre-season friendly, not likely to try that one again any time soon in an important game.

Would be a complete waste of his talents if Tuchel plays him as a pivot and tones down his offensive attributes. Same as playing James at CB, yes he can do that but why use him in a lesser role. 

Taking a pen like that when you're trying to break your way into the first team was so stupid, reminds me of that shocker from Jorginho against West Ham. Hopefully Tuchel isn't too harsh on him but it's a lesson learned certainly.

I didn't get to see the game but from reports I've read did we really try and play Gallagher and Mount as a midfield 2? No wonder we were so open

These tours really are just a kind of trials and jigging about, But it is funny to see how overrated our youngsters are on here tbh

I'll reserve judgment until our first 5 proper games but jesus, Gallagher looks average as tbh

Like I said, he's an advanced ball winner, and if he is to play in a pivot he needs a proper defensive midfielder. 

That said, he didn't hold himself in any glory last night.

Right on Dick. He needs a system that suits him. Clearly would be good in a 4 3 3.

Yup. Looked like Tuchel conjured this up at half time and expected the players to perfect it.

In a system like that Gallagher should probably be in Mount's position. He is probably more of an attacking mid. But it was an experimental lineup to be fair. Often the manager learns more from adversity, and better to learn in pre-season.

Conor should study Gerard's videos and how he played, they are similar players

It is what it is. I personally think it is a good thing for conor development. Learning when to accelerate, when to decelerate is important component of becoming a complete mid.

Is it waste of talent? Yeah sort of. But you can't have everyone bombing forward at will. 

 

 

Tommy boy needs to change the record and get with reality.

This line that he likes to wheel out about a "lack of precision" has to stop. He has had a hell of a lot of time to work with these players, and by saying the same nonsense about precision over and over again he looks silly and in truth, a bit of a farce. He needs to get us playing with a speed and pressure that precision is moot....steamroll teams rather than rely on the odd chance here and there.

How in the world can precision be moot? We've played with the highest line in the league alongside City and we have pressed more than any other of the top teams under Tuchel.

Up front you always need a certain quality to break team down. And no one is going to tell me we have had or even have that quality in our squad right now. Until we signed Sterling we didn't even have one(!) attacker that could beat a defender with any kind of consistency. And as of right now we still don't have one attacker who can pick a creative pass with any kind of consistency.

Precision is missing 1 or 2 chances. 

It is not being second best to an American team, whilst playing 3 cbs and at least 3 players out of position. 

It is bad coaching and decisions. It has gone on for too long.

Why are we drawing conclusions from a pre-season game with nothing on the line?

Talk about overreaction when you call a littlebit of experimenting in pre-season for bad coaching and bad decisions.

 

 

You don't play those games to win but to test stuff e.g. test players in specific situations and instructions (hence playing them out of position at times). Nobody cares if we lose against some random team in pre season if that helps us to increase the overall level. We could eventually "steamroll" those teams if we want to but if that setup wouldn't really work against the average PL team then what does it help us?
