Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

That was the original approximate timeline from when he picked up the injury.

And would be very typical for any player suffering that injury.

What surprises me is how many people seem to think that his return will be a cure all. Hopefully he will help us improve to some degree, but after the Werner signing, I don't think his form in Germany is any guarantee that he's going to be the best attacker we've ever seen. And with the example of Jackson looking ok in a couple of pre-season games and now looking hopeless, Nkunku's pre-season performances also don't guarantee incredible EPL performances. Add to that that he will be joining a team that is struggling and all over the show, even if he's the greatest player of all time, he'll have a job making a significant difference any time soon. It'll probably take him a month to get close to fully match fit and find his feet in the maelstrom that is the Premier League.

Good luck to him.

Last night was essentially our starting XI, particularly the 2nd half.

Nkunku isn't fixing anything.

Short term Nkunku might give us a more productive option from the bench, but I doubt he will be starting games soon. Quite clear that we are determined to ease both him and Lavia into the first team slowly.

Nkunku will be making his Chelsea debut on Saturday.

The saviour is on his way.  right?

Crazy that we have known for a year that he was going to sign for us and he hasn't played one minute yet. Feels like the longest wait for a debut ever.

He won’t make a blind bit of difference. I don’t get why some think he’s going to save us. The issue is beyond one player, until everyone clicks as a TEAM Nkunku will just be a good player in a dysfunctional unit.

This is true, but if Nkunku is as special of a footballer as I hope he is, then he can win us games on his own. It won't get us top 4 or even a Europa League spot, but at least it would steer us into a more positive direction.

Be just our luck he trips over his laces as he enters the pitch, jars his knee and requires a 3 month rehabilitation

I’m not sure he’s special but he’s probably the calmest in front of goal in our squad. He can finish that’s for sure.

If he or a new striker can start finishing some of our chances in the tight games then the confidence behind him will grow. Playing in a team where no one has confidence in the striker is a nightmare. We are trying to be too precise in the final third.

Don't think we will see him properly fit and ready until February......ish.

Yep he has been so long out that we just don't know about recuperation, fitness and how long it will take him to get back into his stride.

I've watched a lot of him in the German league. He is I believe comfortably one of the best finishers in the league not just the team.

The main difference between him and some of the players that have come over from Germany is he doesn't require space to run in behind to be most effective. He can score goals this way yes, but he is good in tight spaces between the lines and in the half spaces which is something we don't have right now aside from maybe Cole.

I suspect he gets 20-30mins today. Pochettino will probably take it easy with him. Unless he's been fit for a while and they were just really making sure he's all good. In which case a suprise start could be on the cards (unlikely imo).

I think Kendry Páez is going to smash this record.

When Nkunku and Páez start a game together I think we will start to look like a top six team again. Maybe even Mudryk might have improved a bit by then too.

Scoring on his PL debut. Some of the great ones have done it. I have my hopes on Chris, he's a great player.

Maybe if we spent the money on players of his calibre, we wouldn't be in this mess. But no, they spent money on unproven players that are quite frankly no better than players coming out of our academy and sold.

I agree.

I just don't think he'll be a great player here.

Got to appreciate him this season because I'll be astonished if he doesn't put in a transfer request in the summer.

I've never seen a team surround a top player with a bunch of young players ever result in anything other than the top player leaving to a club with similar calibre players so they can actually compete.

why our barmy owners only wanted a few decent players surrounded by overpriced kids I'll never know.
