We need to stop having a hissy fit about losing out on Raphinha and Kounde, and actually look at what is good for Chelsea. Moving on two slow, ageing, declining full backs and getting a good defensive midfielder who is absolutely in his prime is a sensational prospective deal.

I think this is on to be honest. Might not all be involved in the same deal but might be a 'you scratch my back and we will scratch yours' situation. 

If we really want De Jong we should be in a very strong position. 
 

- Barcelona need to get rid of him otherwise they cannot register their new players

- He refuses to take a pay cut and really doesn’t want to leave

- he does not want to go to the one club that is willing to pay 80 million for him (United) 

- they want Azpi and Alonso 

I would offer them Azpi & Alonso + 30 million and + 10 million to De Jong to help Barcelona get rid of the 17 million outstanding salary they still need to pay 

Just leave that on the table. If we can agree personal terms as well we could just sit back and watch Barcelona get nervous approaching deadline. So they will have 2 options: keep de Jong and not register their new players. Or sell him for 30 million (+10 to reduce the salary debt to 7 million) and register their new players get azpi and Alonso and be done with this whole saga. I think they will crawl back to us to take the deal.

Nah Barca will want 80 million up front for De Jong and 10 million for Azpi and Alonso paid in the Super League year of 2029.

It is a Barcelona problem. He wants to stay there. He just bought a house there and Barcelona want to get rid of him. They want to get rid of him because he refuses to take a wage cut.  He is a good player, but we should steer clear of that cluster fckcuck.

But what about his new house? Should we dabble in real estate and offer it to Dave or Alonso? For a fee of course, we're not a charity.

I am guessing that Xavi sees lots of young talented midfielders at Barca, the likes of Pedri and  Gavi and so De Jong is the only high value player they can sacrifice. Barca's problem is that unlike Dembele his contract isn't up.

Although he could work as central defender and in fact could do a great job ball playing out of defence it seems like he wants to play midfield. In fact xavi has "threatened" to put him back in defence if he stays, or at least that is the way I read some comments. 

In my opinion we should only take players who really want to be at chelsea. De Jong scores some goals, about 1 every 10 games but really even though a year ago I thought Kante needed to be replaced, and I still do think that, the bigger problem is scoring goals and stopping the opposition scoring.

Its hard to imagine as good as sterling is that sterling havertz and mount are going to match the Man C front 3 or the Liverpool front 3.

In short right now De Jong is a nice to have option rather than have to have.

They don’t want to get rid of him, they need him to reduce his wages, which he’s not accepting, or sell because of his wages in order to register the players they’ve signed.

He's most likely a Jorgi replacement (be it this year or next). Imagine him besides Rice next year..good combo! 😉

The sooner we get a real forward and swap out Werner the better! How I wish we could find somebody like Drogba or Costa to take the goal burden off our other players.

My money is on us doing some sort of swap deal with De Jong and Azpi at the end of the window.

Widely reported Barca want Alonso and Dave as part of the deal and they would sooner sell to us the get them.
