Chelsea v RB Salzburg (CL) Wed 14th Sep 2022 20:00 GMT

The players haven’t got the courage or the talent to take advantage of supposedly weaker opposition.

I thought the tempo was better but lack of quality in the final 3rd bites us again.

We don’t do last minute winners as that would require composure or being clinical.

Getting out of this group will require us to get 6 or at worst 4 points from the Milan double header.

New manager same boring dross with a little extra effort. Jokers.

I disagree. I thought there were a number of positives given it was Potter's first game in charge. There were negatives too. I don't think  the substitutions made any sense. Bringing Ziyech and Pulisic into that was utterly pointless and taking Sterling off was baffling.

Kepa - 6 - Made a decent save in the first half, never really did anything wrong apart from that early pass to Jorginho that was hit too hard. Can't be blamed for the goal.

James - 6 - Had a good few moments, but that is all it was.

Azpilicueta - 4 - Shaky start, improved but was still below average.

Silva - 5 - Would have got a 7, but his mistake led to the goal.

Cucurella - 5 - Lots of running and some nice passes, but nothing else really.

Jorginho - 5 - A few nice passes into attacking areas for once. He still looks like he will get easily bullied though and once Salzburg pressed a bit, it was like being a man down with him in the middle.

Kovacic - 4 - Nowhere near his best. Nothing came off for him.

Mount - 6 - Effort was there, quality was hit and miss.

Sterling - 7 - Nice finish for the goal, made some good runs forward into space and was always looking to make something happen.

Havertz - 3 - sh*te. Looked lazy, touch was awful throughout, lack of intensity as usual. Rapidly losing faith that he will ever come good for us.

Aubameyang - 2 - Terrible. It may be early, but I don't see a world class striker there anymore. He hasn't been at the same level fpr 3 years now.

Subs

Broja - 6 - Did okay, was part of the most exciting bit of football we played all night, and it came from being direct, none of this possession sh*t.

Loftus-Cheek - 4 - Rubbish, made us worse.

Pulisic - 3 - Didn't make any impact.

Gallagher - 4 - No quality.

Ziyech - 5 - Tried, but the quality wasn't there.

Can anyone sum up the game for me

Was like every Tuchel game this season.

The players haven't changed.

Attempted a few more passes forward but due to a lack of talent still couldn't create any chances.

Defensive lapse at the back whenever the opposition go forward and points dropped.

Ziyech doesnt want to be there. He wanted the move to AC and was close to going back to Ajax in the last week. The 532 system will never suit him. He was Lampards man and wasnt fancied by Tuchel and he wont be Potter. Should have just let him go!

Some people said we need to play faster which was crazy. We played too fast. The two midfielder need to slow the game down and Kova need to play deeper and slower.

Other than that, there is nothing new.

James hasn't had a good season , mount was good. Silva was outstanding until that mistake. Cucu is more of a lcb/lb. Azpi has no leg to play rcb anymore. Sterling as lw is good and Kepa is so bad. Nothing new.

Some really weird stuff from Potter tonight.

1. What formation was this? Sterling LWB? Mount and Havertz are still just floating around the pitch, which has to be confusing for the rest of the team. Neither really seems to get involved consistently. And personally I’m so bored with the 3-at-the-back project. We have invested enormous amounts on defenders. We should be able to not play 5 of them every game (yes, I know the LWB was «missing» today) when our biggest problem is creating and scoring goals as well as being out muscled in midfield.

2. It might not be the deciding factor, but the defense selection is still baffling after the fact. Dave is both too unaware and to slow to act after Silva’s mistake. Also thought there were some questionable involvements from Cucu and Azpi when we were caught on the back foot at times. Can’t see how this set up will fare well against better opposition, especially PL teams and set pieces. Strange, strange decision from Potter.

3. Building on the first point, why is Chilwell staying on the bench this whole game? Should be ahead of both Mount and Havertz, not even mentioning the Pulisic sub.

Other than that the performance wasn’t the worst. Much of the same from the Tuchel era with bad finishing and what not. Acutally thought Jorginho played well. Just a typical Chelsea evening tbf.

I think Broja did well

he is much more direct and forward

he should have scored though

Borja is fine, you want to get a fresh leg up front.

Ruben sub made 0 sense.

So disappointed.    I couldn’t go tonight so I’ve caused someone else to pay to watch this!   I couldn’t believe the lineup, with no fixture this weekend and then international break it made no sense. I haven’t looked back at posts when team was announced but if T T had picked that side we would have had pages of posts.

My stream wasn’t great. So difficult to get a feel for the game. Potter has had plenty of sessions to look at squad and talk about his tactics. Just don’t agree with players playing out of position and having better options sitting on the bench

Same old same old, baffling team selection terrible substitutions take the lead  get pegged back and all this against a team of Austrian teenagers at home. Has to be one of the worst group of players to wear the shirt. Tommy or Potter who the f**k cares anymore

It was fast with little control. I do expect this with Potter as hes only ever managed small teams and this will be his style. It will be more direct. Playing fast doesnt always equate to goals.

We scored most goals under Ancelotti in the 09/10 season. The back four would pass the ball about quite a bit waiting for the right opening and speed it up at the right times.

In positive news I think Ziyech did manage to complete one pass. Azpi and Jorginho in the same team is becoming difficult to watch. Not feeling the same positivity as some, this was Salzburg at home, who only had one fit first team centre back.

It's just the same huff and puff bollocks we've seen the past several months.

Same underperformers playing and Potter trying to be too hipster with his team selection and lineup. Based on Brighton's metrics, this is a standard performance under Potter.

Worrying.

Havertz also has something mentally going on...I've never seen him this sh*t ever, every touch went wrong!

He is soo much better than that...his head is not right atm. You can see it.

Nah, he’s just absolutely f’in sh*t.

Well different manager, same outcome and same sort of performance.

Decent amount of endeavor, no quality. Far too many efforts off target, thought as least we took on some shots. Mount, James, Broja and Ziyech all had to do better with their efforts, and I believe it was kova to got on the end of the Broja cross and failed to score from 6 yards.

Different manager, same cr@p forwards (bar Sterling).

Another defensive howler added to it as well, who would have thought it would be Silva though to mess up so badly?

That's us out of the CL in my opinion, so long as Salzburg do the business against Zagreb.

What I couldn’t work out, so it must be a player not a TT issue, James and Azpi just wouldn’t cross, and they had ample opportunities, on the plus side, Jorginhos been told to play a quicker ball, and we did play with a bit more energy, so gets a pass.

Apart from playing Azpi..
