Moises Caicedo to Chelsea! "Official"

Brighton really played us like fiddle, glad we didn't give them Colwill and hope we don't do business with them in the future.

This is business. They don't owe us anything. Just because we loaned or sold them some players or bought some from them, doesn't mean they have to do us any favours.

If Caicedo joins Pool, it's an embarrassment for the whole recruitment team. To waste the whole summer on these negotiations and end up with nothing.

I am just waiting to see if caicedo is truly the player everyone thinks he is. Don't remember a brighton player succeeding outside that club. Pool have basically bought their midfield and want to build around it.

Exactly. Caicedo is a good player for sure - although never an £90-100m; let alone £110m player IMO.

Not sure what happened with Lavia/Caicedo and Liverpool/Chelsea. Did they just switch or was it due to ud budding for Lavia?

Anyhow. While I was hoping to see Moises at Chelsea, I’m glad we didn’t spend £110m on him. What I read is that our bid was up to £100m. This sounds like a bid that includes several add-ons or a bonus in some sort.

Can’t believe we’re going into the new season without a defensive midfielder and just one fit striker. I think losing out on Caicedo is a disaster especially as we put all our eggs in the one basket. Lavia is half the price but he’s half the player. I really don’t know where we go from here. What a total shambles.

I know we didn’t match Brighton’s valuation but it feels like Brighton continue to screw us at every opportunity. Goodwill only appears to be on our side.

We should go and buy Kudas to annoy them.

Agreed. Direct some of that money towards another striker and an attacking mid.

Precisely what I was thinking. I would take Harry Kane at £96m over Caicedo at £100m in a heartbeat !! We need goals and a REAL PROVEN Striker and an attacking midfielder are vital to future success.

Predictably there is a meltdown on here and socials about this.

Personally I am happy we have not overpaid significantly for the player.

The worst thing about this are reports that we went in last min to up our offer to £100m. If we were willing to pay that, then we should have stumped up earlier on - but i am glad we didn't.

How many ecuadorean world beaters are there in football? Not many. Whilst caicedo is a decent enough footballer - I don't see the hype, and there are many other decent enough players to go around.

If Chelsea learn a lesson from this, and if fans learn a lesson from this - then it will all be worth it.

Lesson for club - don't deal with brighton, and don't cock around with haggling when the asking price is something we are willing to (eventually) go to. Just get business done.

Lesson for fans - ffs people, don't believe all the hype on social media. Many on here hanging on the words of youtubers like Younes who have been saying it's a "done deal" and liverpool bid is bluff. These people know nothing so stop gobbling up the twitter bs they regurgitate!

Half the player? 1 leg. 1 arm? Based on what?

You couldn't make it up. Hate to say it but I feel that Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart still have the "small club" mentality and do not have the calibre to be handling multi million £ deals for Chelsea. So looks like they have lost this one horse race !!!

I have been saying this all along. £70m would be my max for Caicedo. He is NOT a £100m + player and never will be. We may have dodged yet another bullet.

I agree it's a business but building relationships/networking is also part of the business. Maybe next time they want a player on loan we might just look the other way to Strasbourg.

I would take Kane at £196m over Caicedo at £100m. It's not that Caicedo is a bad player, he is a very good one, it's just that he's a DM. Any competent player can do a job in there, including 3 of our defenders.

Strikers cover all manner of ills however.

Although I have to say it is pretty funny reading the start of this thread with Team Rice vs Team Caicedo, only for us to end up with neither!

Genuinely don't understand why people give any weight to anything he says.

Literally just a guy sitting in his parents spare bedroom, regurgitating twitter posts from others.

A poster on here the other day was going on about gabriel, staying at chelsea and not going on loan "because Younes said" ! He knows nothing. The CEO of strasbourg had already confirmed long ago the loan would happen but chelsea wanted to keep him for pre season.

I'm sorry but I've seen this way too many times now - what kind of moronic businessmen do people want running the club? Guys who just pay whatever to get things done. I much prefer a tough negotiator, thanks.

As we circled around Caicedo for months and we didn't really make a concrete move I feel we didn't expect anyone to challenge us and in the end didn't want to offer over 110 we didn't value Caicedo as much as Liverpool.

We are still desperate for a DM and so was Liverpool. They decided this is their man so fair play to them.

We basically have couple of options in the market so we need to move quick.

This situation is far from being optimal and I am a bit sad for Pochettino.

From brilliant pre-season to losing Nkunku and now the piece of The puzzle that should have completed our midfield.

Granted Caicedo is 21 and Poch asked for experience. Maybe there is a Casemiro -type player out there that we have as a backup.

Anyway it is interesting to see how we go from here. I am sure we have names lined up.

I've just woken up to this and I'm FURIOUS.

We've just lost our no1 target for the season, The no1 player our manager wanted and needed, A genuinely world class player in his position. We spend three months chasing him and Liverpool take two days to get it done. No one is worth 100m+ but it's not the point it makes Liverpool look serious and we look like complete muppets.

He walks into our team and helps us fight for league titles in the next 8-10 years. Liverpool know this.

The whining about the fallout of the potential price paid had we got him is nothing compared to having the player in our squad. Small time mentality.

We've let the manager down, We've stifled Enzo for another season, We've allowed Liverpool to take a genuine World Class player to fill their problem position and we've limited and self sabotaged our season.

Total sh*t show.

We want moronic businessmen who do their job and get the players that genuinely improve us into the team. The whole point of a 'negotiator' is someone who actually gets the target over the line and not ends up improving Liverpool instead.

This is what we get for spending 20 million on unknown players just to send them to strasboug instead of investing in our marquee signing. Once the season starts this will hurt more than havertz or Mount. He is the closest thing to kante and we have literally let it slip....

We should have just given them the money instead we are wasting money on average Tyler Adams.

Thanks for nothing boehly

Maybe shouldnt have spent so much money on signing kids for Strasbourg.

Really poor to miss out on main target especially when after 3 months we actually met brightons asking price anyway.

Couldve had this seen up long ago.

Alot of the goodwill that was building through preseason has gone tor me with this. Really feel sorry for Poch who no doubt has been planning with Caicedo in mind.

Embarrassing all around tbh.
