Things we have learned from this World Cup

Featured Replies

1) Ziyech needs a prominent role in this team

2) Havertz does not

3) We were right to sell Lukaku and Werner

These are just a few off the top of my head. Any more?

Disagree on Havertz he would have been likely been top scorer when they went out yet Musiala did not play for the team, just his own glory. Of course that does not mean he should No 9.for us.

Griezman is a top player.

Ziyech just like at Chelsea blows hot and cold.

Would like us to incorporate that free-kick the Dutch used against Argentina.

In-swinging free-kicks close to the keeper with a forward running in front of the keeper would also be good to see used.

I still can’t believe how good Man-City’s recruitment has been, Alvarez lighting up the World Cup and he’s their 2nd choice striker. Unreal and so so unfair, just depressing how much they get right and how much we get wrong.

If anything I`m even more pissed of at Ziyech after watching the effort hes put in for his country after seeing him meander around pulling out of tackles for us.

If France wins again despite all the players they're missing, the World Cup is either a big joke or France is one of the most dominant teams the world has ever seen.

What we have learned is that if you pay enough BIG money to the right people you can bring it home, you even get the head of Fifa to attack democracy on your behalf, and your biggest assets are guaranteed the top stage final.

With two deflected shots that fell just right for them last night, and a paid off ref in the last round, they are truly dominant.

That's correct on one level and garbage on another. I think France are good value, they were never behind against England and blaming the ref despite getting two penalties is a funny really. The fact is that Griezemann and Mbappe and Tchouameni are the spine of a great team. Tchouameni is an outstanding talent in his position and Griezeman probably the best player at the world cup, although a bit of a nothing for Athletico. Griezman actually is event better than at the last world cup and he was fantastic then.

Equally and as ever there are some good young talents out there.

What I see is that people play differently for their country than for their club. Kovacic's knee didn't seem to be an issue.

World Cup football is totally different from the Prem. A lot closer to CL football.

That is why you can't really judge players...you can but it is not accurate.

Havertz is still a massive talent and remains to be so. We should be lucky we have him.

Ziyech is Ziyech. Accurate passer but unpredictable. A system-player he is not and will never be. With Potter he could strike a chord but with someone like Tuchel never. He is a good team plsyer still. So underrated and underappreciated among Chelsea fans. Probably would be best if we sold him though.

Do you really trust the officials ? I think the standard of refereeing has been a joke.

Despite seeing the challenge on Mount, the ref had to be dragged to the TV monitor to watch a repeated slow-mo of the most obvious penalty in the entire WC, it's no wonder that some people are questioning his competency and ethics.

Not just that ref but others like the nutter who in one game between Arg and Netherlands, yellow carded 14 players, but only one red in the 128th minute. How the hell can you have 14 yellows in 127 minutes with no red cards without some very selective booking ? That's not random bookings.

They are 1 win away from back-to-back World Champion titles... I remember when Spain won in 2010 how every news outlet was trying to argue how that team is the best of all time and what not...

Arsenal signed Danish midfielder Jon Jensen on the back of him scoring in the 2 nil victory over Germany in the 1992 Euros Final.

He went on to plunder 1 goal in 138 competitive games for Arsenal!

  • Actually probably won't mind Rabiot after all on these performances.
  • Absolutely want to sign Amrabat.
  • Sign Gvardiol.
  • Whilst i would be happy for Pulisic to be sold, i shan't question his commitment in future. Any player that loses one of his mister men back up the pipe trying to score a goal is pretty committed.
  • We're never getting Bellingham
  • Kovacic has helped turn Croatia into Chelsea, they just don't shoot.
  • Whilst we are at it i would take Nahuel Molina, Marcus Thuram and Ilian Meslier (not WC specific but hey)

Here we go!

  • Chelsea players often perform better for their country than clubs, almost as if the tactical shackles are off and they're kids playing on the park again
  • Makes me thing Chelsea are over-coached and too defensive - want to see a 4-3-3 again
  • Players will never find form with 10 min cameo performances or heavy rotation
  • Chelsea is too comfortable and too easy for too many players
  • Players don't look fit enough compared to their competition at Chelsea
  • Silva can absolutely play in a back four
  • More a reminder than a learning - Argentina are a dirty team
  • Sign players with some character - Rice, Gvardiol

I don’t really have a comment on the reffing except that some has been fantastic and some less so. I thought the Brazilian ref in the France/Morocco game missed a lot. My point was rather, that  reffing was not the reason for France beating England, at least not in my opinion. In general I prefer the more physical approach this season although it probably requires greater penalties for genuine rule breaking.

Never judge a player on tournament football. Far too many have been signed on the back of a good World Cup.

Its the same every tournament, a few "unknown" players get bog moves off the back of a few good games and it very rarely works out well.
