Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

This lad is a natural born winner and leader of men. He is captain for a reason. If he adds some more goals to his game we have a top midfielder in the side.

Goals are the least of his problems, it's not something we need from him. He doesn't have the athleticism, that's his biggest issue. He's visibly tired after 60 minutes, you can see it, the sweat is dripping off him. He can't keep up, the game at the top level moves too fast for him. Once he hits this point, he struggles to pick out his passes and then he just completely disappears from the game.

In fairness it’s already been established that he covers a lot of ground so I’m not surprised he’s covered in sweat around 60min.

Either Maresca instructs him to cover less ground or he starts subbing him off earlier. I don’t think either is likely unfortunately.

I'm not as down on Fernandez as many on here. He does have value IMO but like so many before him, he suffers from a lack of athleticism in so much of what he is expected to do in an EPL midfield. So for me there is no way he should be an untouchable nailed on starter every week. Especially with Santos looking like he is ready to play regular minutes.

It's puzzling as he is continually one of the leaders for distance covered but constantly looks like he's running through treacle. Seeing him struggling to get in front of Granddaddy Kane was just...sad.

I wonder if he runs all those miles because he is constantly unable to keep up with the pace of play. I suppose you can't fault his effort

I think that's exactly it.

He's always a yard behind everyone else so covers more ground trying to keep up

Objectively the biggest flop of not only the new ownership, but in the history of Chelsea football club.

There can be no question now that he’s being ordered to start every game, no matter what, in order to somehow ‘force’ his success upon us. It will never happen. He will continue to be a passenger. This is infuriating

I feel i must take responsibility. Season after season I was secure in the knowledge Jorginho was the Emperor's New Clothes personified. The football gods looked down on me and said 'You ain't seen nothing yet'

Distance covered is more of role than player. Fabregas used to top it for us and all of us know he could barely run.

Funny enough, I still think he was best under Potter. But then other clubs realized he isn’t press resistant.

As much as I like Enzo as a player, he is just the wrong for this squad and this system. I don't think he is physical enough for which is why Santos looks so much better at center mid than Enzo. I can't bash him because I think he is doing his best, but honestly he is the weak spot on the pitch.

The rest is on little Pep junior.

I think he's wrong for the league, especially in a 2 man midfield. His body just isn't built for this level of intensity. In a hotter climate where it's impossible to play at high intensity for 90+ minutes, he would be fine.

Vanished after being kicked up in the air by Casimero. couldnt influence the game with 10 on the pitch.

Move him on before his value decreases. Anyone still singing this man's praise probably needs to get some therapy.

Before? I think that ship has not only sailed, it has sailed, laid anchor, been marooned and been shat on by vindictive seagulls.

His value has plummeted to his genuine value.

Can only hope the plan is to wait for next years WC and sell him to Madrid at a high after Argentina does well there.

Fernandez at his absolute best doesn't get into any midfield ahead of Bellingham or Camavinga in his preferred role, let alone Valverde. At one point while Tchouameni was playing utility across the back line and Fernandez still looked like a serviceable pivot player, they may have entertained a swap, but no chance now. Fernandez wants to play as a number 10 in a free role and he just isn't that quality at this level. He is unable to carry the ball at speed yet unwilling to sit back and make use of his good passing ability, so I cannot see him fit in any other top team in football if he continues this insistence.

Real Madrid need a proper DM if Tchouameni doesn't return to his heights, and unfortunately I think they will be targeting Caicedo hard next season, especially if Alonso sticks around. He is the perfect style of DM for Alonso's football.

I quite like the bloke ‘cos unlike some he appears to actually care, however, it’s a travesty he’s starting over Santos at this point.

European games where the tempo is more suited to him he should start. Domestically, it’s too much for him.

Bloke starts every game despite more often than not being one of the worst players on the pitch.

We have an Enzo as a coach and an Enzo who appears to be his favourite player and in the starting 11 every week. Want both gone and some rule made that Chelsea FC NEVER employ another person with the name Enzo.

I think in a parallel universe, the word "Enzo" translates to "of very little use and of poor quality" - in other words, Utter sh*te.

Id play both Enzo and Santos.

Santos alongside Caicedo.

Enzo further forward if he's on form.

If hes having an effective game 90 mins

If he's not 60 mins.

We will miss him when he's gone imo.

And if he stays he will continue to be an asset.

We've got much bigger problems.
