It;s not until they are more experienced that they tend to settle into a more consistent level of performance. Problem is, our squad is almost entirely young players, so you get it every week. Being inconsistent is okay and to be expected for a young player but when Noni in particular is bad he is really, really bad and that's the problem I have. The other wingers in Sterling, Palmer and Mudyrk have all had their fair share of games where they have done nothing but even at their worse they have just been making up the numbers on the pitch, Noni's bad performances go deep into "I would rather play with 10 men" category.

Id put Mudryk in that category too. That Boro home game was painful.

February 12, 20242 yr Every time he looks like he is getting better, he puts in a stinker soon after. He was decent against Villa, not amazing, but he was causing them problems, today he couldn't get anything right.

Fair points but my biggest problem with Madueke is that he doesn't really have any good games. His entire game is based on dribbling near the half way line, generally if he's on it he'll beat his man get a lot of praise but won't actually attempt to create a chance. If he's having a bad game like you've said he'll lose the ball on the half way line and we'll be in big trouble in transition. 2 goals from open play, 0 assists and 0 big chances created in the league since he signed for us last January. Gave away 10 or so big chances in that time with his poor positional play and ball retention. He's a high risk / low reward player.
February 12, 20242 yr He is our most direct player. Even today, in an awful first half team performance, he had occasions where he beat players and got into good positions but there was no final ball. Some of that is down to Madueke himself but it's also down to the fact that often, when he makes those openings, and has the ball at his feet, there is no quality striker/centre forward either in the box waiting for the ball or making the right run to receive a pass. There are lots of upsides to Noni but he is still learning and there will be inconsistency. He has a great work rate, doesn't shirk the defensive responsibilities, and is decent enough in the air. An "untalented" player doesn't produce performances like he did against Villa last week and that wasn't a one off. He has performed like that numerous times since Frank started playing him last season. He is progressing very nicely and is, the same as last season, one of the few bright spots.
February 12, 20242 yr We have to stick with him, he’s building a nice partnership with Gusto. With time they’ll cause every team problems.
February 12, 20242 yr I think he is not ready yet and looks really raw. He has the physical attributes to beat a defender but he is not good in the build up and his decision making is bad. I think he needs a loan and a Bundesliga team would be a perfect opportunity for him to gain that experience and confidence that is currently missing in his game.

February 13, 20242 yr Noni is another player that I consider as long term project player. I have no problem for now, we are not competing for anything. But he need to improve fast.
February 13, 20242 yr Very much a work in progress just like Mudryk, he has his moments, but performance like this will make any manager think twice about starting him. I think a loan be a good idea, he's not going to get better playing the odd game every few weeks.
February 13, 20242 yr I think he needs to mix it up and simply his game.. this works in youth level where you can dribble past a team but at senior level you need to mix it up.. he started the game well and then lost confidence when he realised it wasn’t coming off.. even his team doesn’t know what he will do next.. hopefully he improves this part of the game and chooses better on when to run with the ball and when to link up. Poch needs to coach that.. don’t seem to be doing that much.. should be on the touch line directing him.. TT used to do that.. Mou used to.. Pep still does..

Everyone keeps saying you loan out Murdyk, you loan out Madueke, we just can’t afford to loan out out players and buy new toys. We have overspent and likely not going to have European football for a 2nd consecutive season.

February 13, 20242 yr We were awful in the first half, let's not forget that. If Noni had of been on in the second half I believe he would have improved to. We started playing better when Poch realised Enzo staying up the pitch left us massively outnumbered. Colwill coming on for Silva also made a big difference, alongside Palmer not being used as a False 9. Edited February 13, 20242 yr by Malcolm9

February 13, 20242 yr Bakayoko vs Watford level of performance last night. I dont rate him tbh. Even when he does show up and plays with confidence, he us very predictable with hardly any end product. Looks like the sort of player that would have a good Palace career. All 3 wide players are pretty awful. I think that is the biggest miss we have had in market. Sterling big ticket signing that flatters to deceive. I heard someone say Mudryk would dribble into mannequins, which I think accurately sums him up. Would us to stumble on a Diaz or a Trossard type signing. Players that can be relied on to make things happen and cause some danger in the final 3rd, without gambling massive money on them.
February 13, 20242 yr Not the best game from him last night, but really not bad enough to jump on his back and sit him out for weeks. Mudryk and Sterling have had mares like that this season.
February 13, 20242 yr I find it embarrassing the way some of our fans jump on our players back. The lack of support is really bad. He put in a really good performance against Villa and was rewarded with another start today, however yes he was at fault for the goal but in attack, we did not concentrate getting the ball in attacking areas enough. Was he any worse than Palmer, Jackson or Gallagher first half? He was not. In fact he made the best opportunity in attack for first half for Gallagher which was our only shot and let's face it, Gallagher should have done better. Was actually a very good pass to create the opportunity but no one remembers this. Please remember he is only 21 and while he is very inconsistent, there is a player there who needs time and a run in the team, not lambasting every time he does not do well. The thing which is annoys me now, is that he will play 1 good game then fans will suddenly be like "he is actually a good player" but the minute they have an offish game, the critical army comes and slates him. I like him and think we need to be patient with him. He is raw but possess really good dribbling ability and a bit of enigma. Edited February 13, 20242 yr by STATS

February 13, 20242 yr I actually thought he did OK first half, he was pretty much the only player showing for passes, travelling with the ball etc. He also got back at least 3 times to cover behind Gusto which could have led to Palace chances.
February 13, 20242 yr 36 minutes ago, just said: ......... along with Caicedo and Jackson. And Palmer barely touched the ball. Agree, Caicedo making crazy pass after crazy pass. Jackson was anonymous all game. But Madueke was showing everyone how to not play as winger. Losing the ball everywhere, getting the ball and did nothing.
