Hopefully Poch also learned about the formation, Colwill, Chilwell and about the importance of possession.

most important thing he learns (and somewhat learnt already) is that chilwell if he does play should be LB and not LW.

Also even more importantly, that Colwill shouldnt be played at LB and needs to be playing CB

This is pretty much the thing he saw.

Another thing is the obsession about possession. We've had about 60-70% possession in games we have failed at. With quick feet like Jackson's, Mudryks and co sitting a bit deeper and countering we look so much more potent. We have defended pretty well all season as every stat shows.

Naturally Brighton is someone who also wants the ball. They basically showed how to fail with the ball in yesterday's game. Good thing someone else also fails at that at the Bridge 🤣

for sure, there have been quite a few positive signs in the previous few games but the results didnt show it so im glad it showed last night. hopefully we carry on with this momentum and the players get some confidence from it.

I think the real elephant in the room we have to deal with is Silva... I think he is a fantastic player and an all time great in my eyes. Individually probably still the best CB in the team, but for the way we want to play we just cannot use him anymore. He is just not quick enough and when it comes to playing out the back he is very slow compared to how he used to be before.

Silva is no problem in any way or form. He had to play all the time because of injuries and Disasi is new to Prem. As soon as Badiashile comes back Silva can relax behind the scenes much more. I don't think he would mind one bit.

I hope we retain Silva as a coach even after he no longer plays for us, he's arguably one of the best defenders of all time. Even in his late 30's he's still looked world class

You'd think a coaching role at the youth level would be made available to him when ever he gets his badges.

Unfortunately I seen Poch as deadman walking at the moment

he only gets 5 point out of such easy schedule, he will get a fat ZERO when the run against all the top 6 sides and we will be heading in a situation where we have 6 point at the end of November and bottom 3 position

at that point he will and should get sacked, it is not his fault, it is all the owners fault but obviously they are cowards and arrogant people who won’t admit their mistake and will make Poch the scapegoat instead

Then why 'should' he get sacked?  History proove's that sacking managers every 3 months does NOT save football clubs.  We shouldn't have sacked Tuchel but we did, we shouldn't have sacked Potter but we did, Frank was just interim but the point is not Tuchel, not Potter, not Frank and so far not Poch have turned us back into a top 4 team so why on earth should we think that ANY OTHER manager would!

The reality is that when Abramovich was FORCED to sell the club the club had to start again from scratch, and starting from scratch means you don't get immediate rewards.  Brighton have been steadily building for TWENTY years to get to where they are today, the fact that we are not starting from as low a point as they started (they really did start from scratch) means that hopefully we won't have to wait 20 years to compete again - blaming and then sacking Poch just means going straight back to square 1 again!

Poch IS a good manager, our young signings ARE full of potential - GIVE POCH TIME and he will get a tune out of them.  Our days of fighting for the league may be over for the foreseeable future but I can see us challenging for European places again within the next few years (tall order for this season mind).  Until we get there I just wan't to see us slowly improve as time goes by.

Great post. Fully agree

It’s madness how one win and a positive performance in the league cup feels like winning the champions league.

Congratulations though to Poch. Hoping the positive signs will turn into something big.

Yep - what a difference a win makes. It's been all to easy to be down the way our results have gone and the many doom & gloom merchants spread their negativity!

BUT we all knew that we weren't going to be challenging this early with so many changes. It WILL take time and there will be set-backs but we should also start see things beginning to gel, especially once players start to build up an understanding with each other and more return from injury. We still need to create more chances and score more goals but I'm confident it will come and we will be in the top half of the table.

Onwards & upwards............................

I didn't even think we played badly at all last night, even before the goal, I thought I was going mental reading the matchday thread.

Obviously the hiccups at the back most notably from Sanchez were bloody annoying but we played well against a good opposition that's had our number for years now. I hope to see more of Cole Palmer behind the striker now.

Nothing like a match day thread where we lose or look bad in H1 and go on to win the game. They are a genuine chuckle. Unfortunately not too many of them lately.

Ah they used to happen so often, was fun seeing a player go from useless to celebrated.

Now they all just stay useless 19 times out of 20. Makes you appricate the 1 more though.

Take any win we could get right now, that was the first goal of the month, right?  Brighton should have punished us for the Sanchez mistake, for once we got away with one. Given the possession and the control they had on the game, it would be a hard road to come back had they scored first.

Just need to get a few wins, and we could call this cup game a turning point.

Which to be fair is exactly what could have been said about us in any league game under Pochettino. "Underlying numbers" work both ways!

Over the last few weeks despite the bad form Poch has said:

1. Being Chelsea manager is not as difficult as it looks

2. Everything is going well and only scoring is holding us back

3. We will get it right eventually

I want to believe what he's saying but I don't trust anyone these days. Anyone can waffle just to save themselves from being jumped on. If point number 3 is true and in say 2 seasons we are back to challenging the likes of City, Liverpool and Arsenal, I'll happily ride the tough times out.

What worries me is the unknown of things getting even worse. Hurts even more that we've invested so much money, so we can't even have the hope that signing x amount next window will improve us as it should normally do.

Fingers crossed lads.

I know. The operational and financial strategy doesn't really allow much flexibility in terms of changing course so it's literally a case of squeaky bum time until the manager gets it right (which I think he will based on his past - he might not get us winning the league but I think he will get us at the top end of the table and maybe a chance at couple of cups, my personal view is until Pep leaves no one else wins the league but City. Yes I think he's that good and also has a very well oiled organisation and management backing him). Whether he gets given time to get it right before we get relegated or just another mediocre mid table team for a few years as the players build up the experience required and perhaps achieve their potential that's made the club back then and this strategy, only time will tell.

My advice lads is, find another hobby or interest to take your mind away from the games and the pain when things aren't going well.

Following the midweek win, the next two games look pretty vital to me. Both easily winnable games, but with the trough we have been in, we can just as easily lose both.

If we can win both, against Fulham and Burnley, and actually start to play with some confidence, maybe get through a game without a serious injury, this will lead us into the International break with a bit of a following wind. We could then try to punch our weight through the next group of games, probably losing most but if we get a win over Brentford, maybe a draw or two as well, we could then come out of that with Everton, Sheff Utd and Wolves leading up to Christmas, which isn't too sad.

Get poor results in the next two and lose what littel confidenec gained from midweek, we could come out of the International break with our chins on the floor to face 7 tough league games whcih could pitch us in or around the bottom three.

Fulham and Burnely could be massive for our season tbh.

The "should" would be hard to answer but the "why" would be that the ownership would want their backs covered if we continue to slip and the pressure mounts from media/supporters/financial matters. It would be easier for them to pin it all on Pochettino compared to looking inwards or to directors, we've already seen that with Potter and even Tuchel who I assume told them some hard truths they couldn't handle.

Hopefully Pochettino turns it all around and it's still early doors thankfully but we really need to beat Fulham & Burnley as someone mentioned. Because while i've never really accepted that it's a realistic possibility you would imagine the club would start to get genuinely worried about a relegation battle if we come out of the next two games with 2 points lets say.

And how the hell does a "good plan" or "long-term planning" help you in a relegation battle would be my question IF it ever came to that.

We should have sacked Potter earlier, the mistake was hiring him in the first place.

My mood is boosted by Poch’s presser today. The news that the club are already working on more signings for January is very exciting!! It’s amazing how going shopping gives your mood a lift, even if it is ultimately only a brief high.

I think we'll beat Fulham (they look toothless without Mitrovic), but I'm not sure about Burnley. They played United off the park last week, even though they lost

Think we can beat both if chances are taken.
