Will be interesting to see how he does against the better teams after the international break. Well he was very solid against Liverpool and scored our only goal too.

First game in a new league though so can't be too critical. He is effectively 4th choice assuming Fofana isn't completely ruined after his injury so for a 4th choice defender he is very solid, only City have a better 4th choice CB.
October 9, 20232 yr Think he's a steady player, does what is needed. Don't think he's particularly an upgrade over Chalobah, but he's injured so that's a conversation for another day.
October 9, 20232 yr I think Disasi is just a tad better than Chalobah. Chalobah has one issue, which is his carrying value is $0 (which is not his fault).
October 9, 20232 yr Disasi is a solid player. Not optimal him operating with Cucurella though. I bet he likes the idea of Reece coming back at some point.

October 9, 20232 yr That's the problem with the international break, clubs will force players to withdraw if they smells an injury risk, and back to the club game in full fitness the week after. It's much better to play the season uninterrupted and finish a month or 6 weeks early, and let International football to fill the gap for the month of May.

Uninterruped club football from September to April, pre-season in August. Two games a week most weeks up until the end of April. Two week break at the end of April / beginning of May. Train with the international team for 2 weeks in the middle of May, play all of the international games at the end of May and as much of June as they need. No football in July. Done. FA, UEFA, FIFA, give me the job, I'll sort this mess out 😆

Its not helped by fans claiming "but they get paid loads of money" as though that somehow means their bodies wont break down.
October 28, 20232 yr Chopping and changing doesn't work, keep the same team unless forced to change. That's the only way they will gel properly.

He had one job though, which was to keep his concentration. He wasn't overlapping in attack and had to rush back in defence or anything. Both he and Madueke need to sit in the film room and rewatch Brentford's first goal 100000 times before the can leave Cobham.
October 28, 20232 yr He was picked to do one job - win those headers. When the big moment came, he was few yards behind minding his own business, absolutely disgraceful. We couldn't afford to go behind this game, and both him and Madueke ( to a lesser degree) gifted the 3 points

I kinda feel that when we go for the "smart" defensive approach it always backfires on us. We may aswell have just played Gusto. At least then we would've had more of an attacking threat on the right hand side and a good overlap for Madueke. Completely understand what Poch is doing but I wish he would just go f**k it and take the risk, because every game this season it's always backfired on us when made these moves for certain teams.

In theory, I understood that approach as well. (Cucurella was in good form and we still need aerial dominance). It’s just so disappointing that Disasi was specifically brought on to only deal with aerial threats, and he still let us down. For what ever we lack in attack we are equally as poor in defensive concentration. I feel like that type of goal is something we regularly concede. Even Colwill post match said something along the lines of being frustrated because we yet again couldn’t stay switched on when defending. Edited October 29, 20232 yr by Sconnie Blue

Unfortunately for him our best chances fell to Cucurella and an off colour Sterling. Had Cucurellas fallen to say Jackson, and Sterling buried his like he did at Burnley, and Disasi blocked that goal he would have looked smart for this choice, Unfortunately Disasi let him down.

Appears to always be the case when we field a defensive lineup though, we've shown teams far too much respect. For example, going for a back 3 against the likes of Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Villa, all those games were winnable and we showed them too much respect. Dominated the games to be let down with defensive errors despite setting up defensively anyway... Even against Luton when we were 1-0 up there were parts where it could've been 1-1 and the game would've changed because again, we were setting up too defensive. At this rate, what's the point? Our defenders lack the concentration and quality to see these games out, we may as well just go for it and be brave.

Kind of agree with this. As much as I was spitting swear words yesterday and still can't yet bring myself to watch MOTD, that sitter that Cucurella passed straight at the keeper was from a great run and great pass from Palmer. Sterling was directly behind Cucurella and I do think if their positions had been reversed Sterling probably scores and we have a different game. It's got to the position now that if we don't score in 29 mins we don't win, don't matter who we play. Just hoping that we score early against Blackburn or else I can see the run in to Spurs getting even worse.

Our defenders lack the concentration and quality to see these games out, we may as well just go for it and be brave. I also find there is a frustrating lack of intensity, particularly at home. It is all very measured and deliberate, trying to unlock defences with little slide rule passes and tiptap football with everyone jogging around. We seem to encourage the opposition into this defensive shell and then it only needs one or two counter attacks and we're floored. We should be bursting upon them in waves of sprints and intensity, with each player busting a gut every time they receive the ball allied to constant movement off the ball. I loom at Newcastle and their squad is nowhere near as good as ours. I'd take Pope, Trippier and Wilson but that's about it. But their movement, grit, effort and willingness to run their bollox off unsettles the opposition, builds passion and atmosphere at St James' which is bringing them success. You can have all the generational talents you want but with effort and constant running and sprinting it will never realise that potential.
