Chelsea v Brighton (LC) Wed 27th Sep 2023 19:45 GMT

I have to say I didn't see a pattern of play just a lot of effort. I missed most of the first half but in the second we seemed to stop playing out from the back to greater effect. Just hoofing upfield or breaking quicker. Brighton had a few good chances and Joao Pedro should have scored with the volley near the end. We rode our luck but got there in the end.

I cant see this as a turning point but you never know. Jackson can take confidence from his goal and Mudryk maybe playing himself into some form. Poch needs to keep playing him. What have we  got to lose. Cucurella and Colwill had up and down games for me but at least we didn't concede.

Its a shame this wasn't a Premier League match as we need to move up the table and build confidence where it counts. We could easily go back to losing ways at the weekend so Poch needs to earn his salary and build on this.

There's an outside chance of a bit of a Cup run if we get lucky in the draw.

Think you have to view our performance pre and post teh goal.

Pre the goal we were close to shambolic. Frightened. No organisation, pattern, touch, control, composure. Awful.

Post the goal and a little belief came back into the team. Still a number of silly mistakes and attempts at impossible passes. Sanchez raises many concerns. But i thought Maatsen was okay, Mudryk kept on trying, Ugo and Caicedo improved. Palmer looked like he still had an assured touch and Cucurella played the best he has so far. I also thought that Colwill stepped up a slight level today becomingthe senior defender rather than the youngster. I know he is very one footed, but i had forgot how big and fast Broja was, Hoping he is properly fit now and can start next week,

10 minutes of a half-fit Broja gave us more physicality up front than we have had for years.

He looks a bit like Costa, plays a bit like him to. Is a bully with pace. If he is half the finisher we are laughing.

Love what I saw from Broja in his short cameo. Great stuff, feels good.

You can tell he really wants it.

Only saw the 2nd half but looked a decent performance. Jackson looked onside for his 2nd goal too. Good draw in the next round , I was hoping Pochetino would take cups seriously this season and so far he seems to be.

One of United or Newcastle and Arsenal or West Ham out while we face Championship opposition. No complaints there. Good draw for us.

Seriously the commentators were talking for a good 5 or 6 seconds about the second goal and about Jackson before going "and...Jackson does not get to celebrate a second goal..."

I am celebrating for him and us all thinking it was safe away from VAR and bang that Flippin lino...

Could legit go far in this. Hope a few more upsets and we handle Blackburn with no issues.

Blackburn are a dangerous team but we avoided the bigger names in the hat and got a home draw. Each round that we get past gives us a chance that we also may have more key players back. So who knows.

We've already seen this season that Brighton can change their team around and still be very tricky opposition. So even with some fortune at times a win tonight was an important result. Hopefully something to build on and a few fringe players like Cucurella took their chances well tonight.

A much needed win, anything else we will be in full crisis mode. For once the opposition didn't capitalize on our mistakes and take their chances, we deserved a bit of luck. Improvement from the attackers, given the circumstances we just need to play our best 11 every game until they can't go on.

To be honest its not surprising, after years of the strains of too much football we only have the league and domestic cups, we should play full strength teams in all games.  Can't believe Chilwell has picked up a hamstring!  Our injury crisis is almost unbelievable, I've never known anything like it.
