Mike Maignan

I'm not very sure where this revision of Sanchez is now coming from. He's a good shot-stopper and only has brainfarts when he's playing with his feet.... Not really. He's not that good commanding the box, for example when he came out to an easy ball in the box which he missed and almost led to a goal (they hit the bar) against Brighton or Forest, I can't remember. Also, he let in easy goals like the one that got turned over by VAR against West Ham or Forest (I can't remember either). The goal in Liverpool, when he should have gone for the ball and he did not know what to do. And more throughout the season. He's improved towards the end, yes, but he's not only had brain farts when he's got the ball in his feet.

Now, this Maignan doesn't seem to solve our problems either. I'm not very sure why are we linked with such poor options that do not improve our starting team.

Sanchez is like a modern more crap David James or Monk from mean machine. Can he pull off good saves? Yeah. Do I trust him? No. One of the most important attributes for a keeper is concentration and Sanchez just doesn’t have it. We definitely need to replace him as number 1 but who replaces him is certainly going to be interesting.

Watched the highlights of lasts nights demolition.

He’s essentially 2nd season Mendy? Crap.

I think a lot of it is an "anyone but Sanchez" mindset.

Maignan may well be worse, but he's an "improvement" because he isn't Robert Sanchez

This.

And I still say Maignan and petrovic improve the squad and the first team over Sanchez and Jorgensen. They are both better. And to do it and make a small profit seems a no brainer to me. Let them battle it out.Petrovic should have been here last season. Anyway we can improve the first 11 in my book. Not the squad, not the first 11 in 2-3 yrs but for the opening day of the season. Better still CWC.

We will drop £70-80m on a player who’s had one good season and won’t go near a player who’s has a bad one.

It's not really a revision of Sanchez. He has many issues, mainly being that he is bad at playing it out of the back and lacks concentration, but he's a good shot stopper, that can't be denied. I would rather have that than someone that is good with their feet. I know modern goalkeepers need to be able to play with their feet now, but if you don't have good shot stopping abilities, then it's worthless. Maignan lets in too many soft goals, he would cost us a lot of points.

People quote save % to pretend Sanchez is a good goalkeeper yet the second best in the league in the same metric is Fabianski.

We've all watched him for the last two seasons, he's bang average. He'll pull out a couple of worldies but he has just as many howlers.

Every time we play Liverpool he seems to gift them a goal somehow.

Same story with any target we have that does not have a minimum fee clause.

Clubs know we want players for CWC so Jack up the price.

Honestly not even sure if this player is a target. Fabrizio is basically on our payroll to say whatever we want him to say.

Rejected.

Stupid of them

We should be telling them (and him) - we want him, £15m is our last offer, and if rejected, we will simply sign a pre agreement in January to get him for free. If Milan want him for the final year, they are essentially loaning him from us, and by them saying no to £15m, they are costing themselves a minimum £15m loan fee.

Still think this will be done - £16-£17m plus add ons.

I'm not sure about Maignan, I know a couple of years ago he was a top goalkeeper but not sure we’re buying him at the right time or for the right reasons.

As for Sanchez, he has been better the last few weeks but he is not the answer.

Sure he makes good saves sometimes, all goalkeepers do at every level of the game - it consistently making top saves and being reliably consistent and staying fully concentrated even in quiet games that separates the great from the good. As pointed out earlier his misjudged dive allowing Chris Wood to get in front of him was lucky we wasn’t punished, it was still 0-0 at that point against Forest.

FWIW I think Maignan is better than Sanchez but I’d honestly give Petrovic a chance and use the time, energy and funds on securing a top quality right footed winger that improves us a lot.

I feel with Maignan we are bargain hunting rather than strengthening.

Chelsea have made their €15m valuation of Mike Maignan clear, and the Milan goalkeeper is keen on a move.

Nothing agreed yet between clubs. A deal Chelsea are prepared to do in time for the Club World Cup, but Milan’s asking price would need to drop to make it happen.🧤

The general curve of a goalkeeper is that they continue to improve into their 30’s. Experience is massive for a keeper.

I’m hoping Maignan is like this. FWIW I think his experience will really bring on our CB’s.

All for this move.
