June 9, 20251 yr You know what's gonna happen, we'll haggle over small margins right up until deadline day and then end up paying the money. The Chelsea board must think people are still glued to their screens watching the drama unfold right until the last minute like 10 years ago.Personally I'd rather seal the deal early and get them on the training pitch ASAP.This trying to save a few pennies right up until the last minute doesn't excite me one bit and IMO puts even more pressure on the player when the long drawn out transfer saga comes to an end.Take the Caceido saga, we didn't even save any money in the end, we only sprung into action when Liverpool tried to gazump us, then straight away the focus was on him and he gave away a penalty against West Ham on his debut giving the media a field day. Most of the time there is no need to have this "race against time in getting the deal sheet to the FA before the windows closes".We should learn our lessons because not every signing is gonna handle the transfer saga and pressure as well as Caceido did.

June 9, 20251 yr In other news, we are selling goalkeepers. . .Marcus Bettinelli’s from #CFC to #MCFC could be done very quickly. Chelsea happy to agree terms in time for him to join Man City in time for Club World Cup.
June 9, 20251 yr So does that demote Sanchez to 3rd choice then? 👀 Edited June 9, 20251 yr by Sconnie Blue

Whichever one stays is the #2.Possibly then one of the youngsters as third keeper ?
June 10, 20251 yr Ideally should be Mike no1 and petrovic No2 but then the directors would look stupid bringing in Jorgensen so I believe he would be no2 and they would sell petrovic for book profit when in reality I feel between Jorgensen and petrovic, petrovic is better

Bettinelli will go for virtually nothing I reckon, the release of Beach and Campbell will save us nothing in real terms and even Bergstrom is only on 7,500 pw.
June 10, 20251 yr If Maignan comes I think it will be MM deputised by Jorgensen. If we don't land him it will probably be Petrovic and Jorgensen. And the worst case scenario is Sanchez and Jörgensen which is a possibility too I think. With Maignan we'd get masses of leadership and experienced which in short term at least this squad needs. Being French it is also good for Fofana and Badiashile. I think actually Badiashile could benefit a tons of it. I think there is a player there.

Onana looked world class at Inter, and has been awful at Utd. Serie A is an average league, Maignan is also injury prone. Wait till Maignan has to deal with the jostling, pushing and blocking that comes with corner kicks.

It’s like they forgot we accepted low fees for Pulisic and Giroud. There’s Tomori and Loftus Cheek as well, so you’d think the very least they can do is be fair to us.If they want any of our deadwood players in the future we can tell them to f*ck off.

However he just showed why he is so good against Germany. I guess Jorgensen has his chances then as well. The injury proneness is a bit exaggerated I think. They went over that in a Chelsea podcast. I don't remember the numbers.

June 10, 20251 yr Looks in doubt this deal from what I've seen. Seems crazy to me that we have identified Maignan as a player we want, obviously he would be coming in as 1st choice keeper, but we are reluctant to even pay what we did for Jorgenson or even a Kellyman this time last year. Certain deals i can understand us holding our ground, but whether pay £12m or £20m for Maignan its still a good deal. Would've been nice to get him in for club world cup.

Damn.
June 10, 20251 yr Imagine if we pull out for the sake of a few million and then we have to try and convince the goalkeepers we already have here that we wasn’t serious about buying Maignan and we have always had total faith in you.Good luck with that one.
June 10, 20251 yr Or you can see it so we weren't willing to be held ransom for him. We liked his profile but weren't ready to break bank for him. Take it like you want.
June 10, 20251 yr From what others have said, he’s not a massive upgrade so is it really worth overpaying for him? Edited June 10, 20251 yr by JM7

What message does that send to the existing goalkeepers? We felt Maignan was good enough to come in as 1st choice, even if it meant upsetting the current goalkeepers, but then we pulled out over a few million, which on the scale of our spending is a drop in the water. Oh well at least no one pulled our pants down for £5m.

They keep buying cheap-notsocheap players that are not a clear upgrade to what we've got. Why do they even try to get Maignan if he's not a solid option for the near future? I'm glad they didn't overpay for him, but it is just because of his age. Had he been 20 yo and they'd have gone overboard for him.
June 10, 20251 yr Hilarious turn of events !We all well know our owners/sporting directors are a bunch of incompetent muppets and this is just more fuel on the fire LOL
June 10, 20251 yr Absolutely fine with this deal being off. Going off last season alone Petrovic is a better player. So why waste money?
