Disgraceful performance by Grimsby, relying on penalties to beat such a sorry football team

Agree they took their foot off the gas in the second half, very unprofessional, I thought Maguire put up a brave battle against the odds.

I really don't understand Amorim insisting on 343 no matter what and united agreeing to it.

He will get sacked, but then what? 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I find the whole "change the system" excuse to be really weak in this situation. He's playing a League 2 team, it doesn't matter what system you play, a Premier League side should be able to perform better than that. How many more coaches playing different systems are they going to go through?

It's not the system, it's Man Utd, everything around the club is so toxic now.

This is my thoughts as well. I get that the system he employs has unnecessary distribution of players throughout the pitch and I also get that they shouldn't operate a system where de Ligt ends up being busier up front than the striker. But regardless of systems, it's still Matthias de Ligt, another European wonderkid. A**x, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Man Utd. He's playing Grimsby Town and he is through on goal and clears the bar from 2 yards. And that is one example. Regardless of ideal tactical pattern a player of such elite credentials playing against a team of that level in the 88th minute of a game should be able to hit the target from 2 yards. That's nothing to do with systems, that's lack of confidence, belief, but above all its really lazy, shoddy technique from a player that should be better and receives the salary and plaudits because of that expectation.

Not only they have a clown as a manager, but you knew their season was going to be a clownfest as well the moment their fans bragged about all their signings like they were getting some God sent ones. Cunha is not a 60M player in a million years and it was so wrong that they thought Mbuemo would be Salah-like after only playing for an average club from the London suburbs with no pressure at all. Plus the way they mocked the Newcastle fans for the signing of Sesko.

I predicted that buffoon Amorim would get the boot only after we play them at OT, but that was before last night's match v Grimsby where I was predicting an easy win. Burnley at the week-end will be all pumped up and surely smell blood, if Man U f**k that up, too, I reckon they will sack the clown. No way a manager survives getting kicked out by a fourth tier club while playing his regulars and then follow that up with a draw or a loss against a newly promoted side.

I thought the same. How can you manage one of the biggest clubs in the world and be too afraid to look at the penalties. Weak character.

This is the only thing that keeps me from taking up top level coaching. I'm hiding behind the sofa for penalties as well.

Quite enjoying this ManU though 😃

Agree, no excuse losing to Grimsby, United could play random system and they should win. The only reason I bring up system because it drive their recruitment and it is very strange.

United could compete with any team in the world for transfer yet they have been signing strange player after strange player.

You haven't even reached the bottom of it yet. This isn't even Grimsby Town's starting league team. This is Grimsby Town subs and reserves!

When you look at some of our rivals, it almost makes you quite contented (ALMOST!).

I know a lot of us feel disconnected with the club in recent times and not happy at how things are being run. But it's clearly not just CFC and is a reality of modern football. But as bad as things got at times last season, I look at how United and West Ham are currently and see that their supporters really do have something to moan about. Both clubs are in total disarray and that's putting it mildly and even something obvious like another change in manager, is unlikely to address their issues.

If only instead of United & West Ham, it was Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal - that would make it a whole lot more enjoyable.

United are in an awful position.

Realistically they need a new RB, new LB, another CB, a holding mid and a couple of wingers to get close to being a top team again.

They should have accepted the 150M B.Fernandez bid and used it for a rebuild.

I honestly can't see them finishing any better than they did last season.

I know they’re ’too big to go down’ but Utd would so benefit a la Villa & Newcastle by being relegated and getting the chance to start afresh.

That squad is absolutely horrific and the entire management structure is broken.

There’s no quick fix and as long as they’re a PL side there’ll always be that expectation.

Next manager stuck with ten Hag and Amorim specific players.

Endless cycle.

The huge warning signs for me was when they signed Amorim and none of his players wanted to follow him. Quenda rejected him, Gyokeres rejected him etc.

Rock and a hard place now though. Do you stick to your guns with Amorim and pray something clicks or sack him and rebuild again?

It's the same in terms of their CEOs as well. Their fan base is the most bipolar in world football.

I remember when Woodward was signing the likes of Sanchez, Herrera, Di Maria, Schneiderlin they were in awe of him, praising him for owning the transfer market. Then by the end of his contract there, they were losing their minds saying he signed all the duds in the world and can't wait to see him gone.

Now the last week the RedCafe was w**king all over the Omar Berrada thread for signing Cunha, Mbuemo and Sesko, making him look like a God for bringing the United factor back and convincing players to sign for them not because of United's current form, but their so called stature who according to them is still one lf the biggest no matter the results 🤣

Today that Omar Berrada thread is back active and they are destroying him there. 🤣🤣🤣

You just can't make that up. So fickle.

No chance for a manager to bring in new players, players who are on high wages and know they're untouchable and realistically, there's only one trophy that is even remotely winnable now. That's a horrible position for a new manager.

The "common sense" would be to stick it out until the next transfer window but by then, the team could be in a relegation spiral, especially if the promoted teams perform. Maybe they can get a tough manager in backed by the owners who'll shut out players or stick them on loan as punishment. For all our problems (mostly tactical) we do seem to have significantly improved players attitudes as a result of doing that.

TBF Amorim seems like the tough manager that is happy to leave players to rot. Garnacho and Mainoo (weirdly) are both in limbo and deemed not needed by Amorim.

I just don't see who's available that would (A) improve them and (B) want to join them.

Oh yeah i forgot GK too, probably the biggest position they need to upgrade.

Remember when all the talk on here was that we needed to buy the game changing Onana. An incredible GK that was like a quarterback. Can't believe Im saying this but we got the better end of the deal by missing out and ending up with Sanchez.

Didn't that Mainoo fella break into the first team about 15 minutes ago? And already in limbo?

Couldn't happen to a nicer club 😄
