Likely cos he cost 50 million and Roman wants him started till he gets a return on his investment?

that has been the case, yes

but hes shown hes sh*t for a while now... and especially after his last few performances, is it a good 'investment' to start him on tuesday ? and hinder our chances of getting to the knockout stages? the further you get in the CL the more money you get

We crossed the Rubicon in terms of getting a return on investment for Torres long ago. At this point, he's such a sunk cost that we might as well call him Titanic.

The concern needs to be about putting the best 11 on the pitch now. That clearly doesn't include Torres.

The funny thing is Anelka came here with the 'Le Sulk' reputation but gave nothing less than 100% in his time here despite being played wide and consistently out of position.

I guess both Danny and Torres could learn something from Nic.

As finishing, attitude and quality movement goes Anelka completely outshines Torres and in comparison he cost us peanuts.

Only a 'Drogba loan' in January can help us unless we sign Falcao !

I think Drogba is still under contract with that Chinese club and in January he'll be heading for the ACN, anyway.

We need new players, the past is gone.

Falcao will be great, but I wonder if it's too complex a deal to pull off in the middle of a season.

I've stood by Torres and defended him in every possible way but now he's indefensible. Maybe he's finally given up?

Thing is though I can hold my head up high, I've been behind him 100% the whole time he's been here but it just hasn't worked out so far and probably never will at Chelsea, but I will continue to support him while he's here no matter what. I understand the frustration but the way some of the people on here have spoken about him has been horrible, things you wouldn't even say about players from the opposition.

Exactly as i feel, as i've said before ... shameful.

What, miss 3 chances he should have scored?

Timetowaste, I know you have been one of Nando's biggest supporters on here but surely you must admit now he is a complete busted flush. I'd had my hopes raised with Torres, (and not for the first time), briefly by some of his early season form and said so earlier in this thread. But yet, once again, it has proved to be a false dawn with him.

Your comment about Sturridge above completely and utterly misses the point. Yes, he had 3 chances he should have scored. But the difference between him and Torres, the startingly, glaringly obvious difference between him and Torres, was the movement, the willingness to run at defenders, the sense of belief, the timing of his runs, his link-up play was superb, the attempts to get in behind defenders which he often achieved. The fact that he didn't score and was ultimately denied on two occaisions by some inspired goal-keeping is, in this instance, completely irrelevant. Sturridge played like a dangerous, threatening centre-forward. Torres didn't and hasn't.

Like many I am not entirely convinced Sturridge is the answer to our scoring problems. However, I am now entirely convinced Torres isn't the answer and Sturridge has shown enough IMO to warrant a run ahead of him as our starting centre-forward in most games. Let's play him until the transfer deadline kicks in and see what happens. As for Fernando, I think that a move away from the EPL is now the only thing that may possibly rejuvenate his career.

Good post

Unfortunately Sturridge is GOOD but not good enough to be our scoring forward IN THIS PARTICULAR team......I will eat all your pants if TORRES isnt gone in january, or latest summer....Unfortunately, if we were in only , lets say, premiereship , we would romp it.(but) because we have EC n domestic cups available, the players minds are not quite right this season SO FAR...I feel they have tasted EC winning and their minds are too anxious to retain it...I dont believe Torres will allof a sudden come good..I like him so im not coating him off..Just my opinion...A must is a good centre forward in the jan sales...Mind you , saying those words doesnt guarantee anything..Torres was great before he came to us....The balance of the team is reasonable...We cant say its coz JT isnt in it..Our successes last year didnt include JT in all of em....Formation and tactics? Havent we tried em all....FALCAO etc etc? No one will know till it happens..Borrowing Drogba is tempting but i feel we should get some permanant goody in

The fact is Torres may have cost the earth is a likeable chap and sometimes looks dangerous etc but he has not and is unlikely to provide the goals that we need to keep winning trophies.

Not all great strikers fit in everywhere, its a fact, probably a nice chap but new striker must be obtained to get us 25 goals + a season.

Like many I have supported Nando 100% since day one, I will of course continue to do so whilst he wears our colours, however I do now sadly resign myself to the fact that this just isn't going to work out. I acknowledge that he genuinely seems like a good lad, he does try and as we've discussed many times post match his work rate is generally of a high standard, but we need goals (not ignoring the standout issues we have at the back) and he just isn't going to provide them.

I actually think Lukaku is the most natural goalscorer we have at this club at the moment. Sturridge needs a run in the team, and if he gets as many chances as he yesterday he should be coming away with the match ball. I'm not totally convinced with Sturridges finishing. I think he'd be the worst out of the strikers for our rivals. I hope he proves me wrong over the coming months.

Never has a player had so much support from match going fans, yet so little support from internet warriors, it really amazes me.

I will support Torres all the time he wears the blue shirt of Chelsea and unlike lots I don't think he's nearly as bad as he is portrayed! However I think for the sanity of the player and the club it is time for him to move on (which will prove tough, on his wages)

Unlike many as well, I'm not sure that another superstar striker is the answer either, Falcao looks a great player, but lots of players have looked great to us in the past, only to fail spectacularly once the Chelsea colours have been pulled on.

I have no idea who we should go and sign, their are scouts etc who are far more qualified than I who will no doubt have a shortlist of players that the board are already looking at and speaking to agents.

As I said though everytime Torres plays for us he will get my support! KTBFFH

I think he needs managerial backing the way he had at Bolton, there he knew that even if he wasted a chance no one is going to scold him or drop him so there was less pressure. He had about 50 shots during half a season at Bolton 19 of those shots were on goal and 8 were converted. That to me seems like a pretty prolific and clinical striker.

Give him a run and support for a few games before the winter transfer window and he might prove to be good enough to keep us in contention. I personally feel that all we are lacking is a focal point a player who makes himself available - even if he doesn't score all his chances. Opposition teams will have to pay a lot more attention to Danny than Torres which will allow Mata; Hazard and Oscar more time on the ball which is always good for us. Honestly with those 3 even a guy like Torres is able to get a decent return - so I have little doubts that once Sturridge has a run he will start scoring regularly. If he doesn't than we can always let him go and give Torres on a free to whoever wants to pay his wages - recall Lukaku and sign another striker.

I don't find it that surprising. You would hope that most people would realise that when you are at the match it is entirely counter productive so not support the player on the park despite how poorly he may be playing. When you are online criticism of the player doesn't happen at the same time as he is playing (or if it is then he obviously can't read it).

I would hope that everyone, even those most crticial of Torres on here, would support him if they were in the stadium.

This is quite a powerful video, especially the first minute or so. It makes me feel quite bad for him, and he obviously knows that it's not going well so it must be tough. For the benefit of himself he should probably get a move on...

Like many on here, back in August I was of the opinion that he would come good this season now that the team is more his 'style', and that we should assess him in the winter and make a decision whether to sign a new CF or not. Now there's just over a month left and, if anything, his form has been on a gentle downward trajectory since the start of the season. I believe this is the 'real' Torres we're seeing, I don't think he will improve much beyond where he is now, so we have to decide if this is good enough. I don't think it is. When the team was playing well and winning games with goals from Cahill and Ivan it was easy to overlook, but now the team is playing less well our lack of a cutting edge up front has become more obvious.

I'd be very happy to be proven wrong, but I can't see us winning the Premier or Champions leagues the way things are. There's a chance Sturridge could be the answer, he's definitely more of a threat than Torres at the moment, but I think he still has a lot to learn.

Just buy Falcao. Problem solved. Cash + Nando.

You know Chelsea have the money to do it.

Hardly as simple as that.

Torres is on stupid wages which Atletico could not pay, he'd need to take like half a cut as they are in financial difficulty.

I don't think he will be like Malouda and stay just because of the wages. I think if we get Falcao the Torres will ask to leave.

You know times are bad (for strikers), when Foolham prob have the best striker out of the London sides (& he was available on a free).

What makes matters worse is those smug scoucers I know being proved right that Torres would flop here and Suarez as a replacement at a fraction of the cost would prove to be a Liverpool legend in the making.

I doubt they will be able to keep Suarez long enough to become a legend.

He will want CL football at some point.

Two words.
